Yesterdays good things
🌮 cooked a meal with rice and beans and there are even some leftovers for today! Should cook with these ingredients more often, since it made me really happy!
😊 went to a birthdayparty and met many lovely friends, some of which i hadnt seen for a while
👑 wore some jewelery, which I hardly ever do, and did not develop the urge to take it of during the evening!

Sunday's Good Things:
  • Quirkle with @'rin and @sleep_twitch
  • still fairly nice (for January) weather
  • I got lots of work done this day and even did laundry
Monday's Good Things:
  • a fun Aikido class
  • a friend gave me a ride to class (it's 5K from where I live, and it was super cold here today)
  • after class the wind died down within about 2 minutes of my stepping outside, and I had a pleasant walk home, including walking through my city's central park, which is lit up this time of year with coloured lights

Tuesday's Good Things:
  • I discovered Shelby will actually eat her regular kibble softened into mush (a totally unappetizing concept to me, but it's less icky for me to deal with than canned food, way less expensive, and Shelby actually likes it)
  • a quiet day with just me and Shelby (we like the dog who sometimes visits us, but between the ridiculous amount of clothing we all need to wear to go outside at the moment, plus needing to keep the two dogs' food separate on account of Shelby's special diet, it was a bit much to have him here this week)
  • I completed a significant stage in the special project and am happy with the results

Wednesday's Good Things:
  • we received a one day reprieve from the brutal cold, and we made good use of it to visit a friend, fetch groceries, and pick up a prescription refill for Shelby
  • my favourite apples were on sale at the grocery store for 1/3 their usual price! I got 12 lbs. of them! My favourite cheese was also on sale for 30% off the regular price, and the cheese I cook with was on sale for 39% off the regular price. An excellent score!
  • Shelby's vet team pulled together to make sure I could pick up medicine she needed, so she did not have to wait another night to get back on it

Thursday's Good Things:
  • Friends brought me pie. Homemade cheese pie!
  • I soloed a game of Unconscious Mind. (Messed up my sleep schedule to do it. But it was fun!)
  • I discovered that all of the content on Alo Wellness is now free to access. (Not that I needed any more yoga classes! But new shiny and all that. )
Friday's Good Things:
  • Shelby aced her post-op dental check-up. And she got praised for being such an amazing patient. "No other dog" would be so good, I was told.
  • Now that Shelby is cleared to eat crunchy food again, it is harder to hide her pills in it. So we went to the pet store to purchase pill pockets. Said pet store is wont to keep very tasty treats, unwrapped, in open baskets that are conveniently located at Shelby head height. I had to make an extra purchase of an item Shelby helped herself to while I was assessing which pill pockets to buy. (Shelby assures me this was a very good thing!)
  • My friend's pie was most excellent.
Saturday's Good Things:
  • Shelby and I are inside. (It is very cold out there!)
  • Long underwear. (Gotta layer up in this weather!)
  • The DAREBEE Battleground is open now!

Sunday's Good Things:
I very much appreciate these ladies' work to bring perspective and hope to dark times.

Monday's Good Things:
  • The snow was just the right consistency of crystalline during Shelby's and my early morning walk today that it sparkled like diamonds under the light of the street lamps.
  • The weather wasn't as cold today. (Yeah, it's weird to look at a weather report and thing: Oh, the windchill's only -20. That's not too bad. But I'll take the win!)
  • My Aikido club. It is a true blessing to be surrounded by good people.

Tuesday's Good Things:
  • sleep
  • I packed up Tapestry and reclaimed my writing work space. (I enjoy Tapestry and other board games. But when one ignores the rule designed to prevent infinite loops, and stacks the deck so as to allow one game to last two full days, it's a bit much!)
  • I updated my fitness log. (A small thing, maybe. But it really helps me to stay on track.)

Wednesday's Good Things:
  • epic workouts for DAREBEE's Battleground
  • I have space enough inside my home to workout (for which I am very grateful this time of year!)
  • another night walk on sparkly snow
Thursday's Good Things:
  • cheesecake for breakfast
  • the weather was mild enough Shelby and I managed to get in our full neighbourhood walk twice (and Shelby got treats from her realtor friends, and her friend Kevin)
  • a chilly but good visit with our octogenarian friend

Sunday's Good Things:
  • early morning Qwirkle with @'rin and @sleep_twitch
  • I got a fair amount of food prep done today: whole wheat apple pancakes, chickpea blondies, chocolate orange cranberry scones, tuna salad, and prepped a grapefruit (I love grapefruit but eat it infrequently due to the amount of work involved in accessing the flesh.)
  • I also fetched groceries, did a load of laundry, and washed most of my dishes. A productive day overall!

Monday's Good Things:
  • I have good people in my life
  • Shelby is amazing
  • Monday night Aikido
Tuesday's Good Things:
  • visiting with our friend in her shed
  • seeing more people out and about, with smiles on their faces, enjoying the warmer weather
  • Shelby getting treats from her friends (she pretty much thinks of walk time as snack time now!)
Wednesday's Good Things:
  • my friends brought me more pie, and liver treats for Shelby
  • the light pollution didn't turn on this night (I've no idea why. I'm not questioning it. Just enjoying the win.)
  • we've had multiple days this week in which the temperature got up into single digits! (Still felt mid-to-high teens with the windchill. But a welcome change from last month's deeper cold nonetheless.)
Thursday's Good Things:
  • many holiday lights still up in my neighbourhood, adding a bit of light and colour to cold dark nights
  • saw a raccoon on our evening hike tonight
  • managed to get largely caught up on last night's missed sleep

Friday's Good Things:
  • we made it out to visit with our friend
  • we made it home from visiting with our friend before the weather turned too nasty
  • progress on the secret project is really coming along and looking great!
Saturday's Good Things:
  • a fun and useful DreamCasters meeting
  • Shelby and I have been managing to avoid being outside during the coldest hours of the day
  • ZOOM meetings. I strongly prefer seeing people in person. But technology that allows us to have meaningful communication with people in far away places is pretty sweet. (And I was thankful to have a meet up I didn't need to hike in the bitter cold to get to this day, not gonna lie.)

  • the realtors were having a Super Bowl party, so Shelby got all the treats from everyone!
  • I made good progress on the secret project
  • celebration of culture and love
Monday's Good Things:
  • Aikido
  • my friends gave me homemade garlic and chive potato cakes
  • they also gave me a big bag of whole wheat flour--this is a nice thing to not have to fetch myself this time of year when the mess on the roads and sidewalks here makes pulling my little wagon a challenge
Tuesday's Good Things:
  • visiting with a friend
  • the temperature actually rose above freezing for a couple of hours!
  • my wrist that got injured in Aikido Monday night was largely healed by this morning

Friday's Good Things:
  • so many happy people and puppies out enjoying the sunshine and mild weather today
  • we met up with some of the same puppy friends again on our evening walk
  • Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, and Leader of the Official Opposition, Pierre Poilievre, holding hands in Tumbler Ridge.
It is a terrible thing to try to find good things in the wake of what happened in Tumbler Ridge on Tuesday, to write of life going on as usual, knowing that opportunity was stolen from Abel, Emmett, Ezekiel, Kylie, Jennifer, Shannda, Ticaria, and Zoey, most of them so very young. But I do think Canada's political leaders coming together in the face of the tragedy is important, so I want to signal boost that.

It's always hard to know what to say/write in response to a great tragedy. (It feels obscene even to write that, to write of "hardship" when my own challenges are so trivial in comparison to those of others.) We say: "Canada is with you." And we mean it. But the reality is: I live over 3000km away from Tumbler Ridge, have never been there, and know no one in the community. And though I lost schoolmates when I was in junior high (to a MVC), and lost a beloved teacher (to another MVC) in high school, though I was a female undergraduate science student at a Canadian university during the horrific events at École Polytechnique on December 6, 1989 (~ 270km away from that massacre), I know I cannot comprehend what the community of Tumbler Ridge and the loved ones of the victims are experiencing now. I can only hold them in my heart, and hope for healing, knowing how woefully inadequate of a response that is.

But I want to avoid falling prey to the notion that, because my own actions are inadequate to address the horrors of our world, they are irrelevant. Of course my personal actions are inadequate! I am only one person. But inadequate does not equal irrelevant. Because I am only one person. But together we are many. Together, each of us contributing in our own tiny ways, amounts to a great force. When the night is darkest is the most important time of all to light even the tiniest of candles.

Thank you to @SevenDeadlyExes for starting this thread, and to everyone who participates in it. I think this work is important. Because there is good in our world, and it is worth fighting for.

Monday's Good Things:
  • I finally managed to reset my Extended Gaming Rules streak this day.
  • We took advantage of the nice weather to visit a friend.
  • I got largely caught up on missed sleep from the weekend, and even made it to bed before midnight!
Tuesday's Good Things:
  • Another mild and even sunny day. Shelby and I were able to do a bit of a longer walk. We didn't get too far (due to a new construction closure blocking our access to the north branch of the TVP), but we did make it as far as the forks and saw some ducks and geese and a pair of mourning doves.
  • Scored some good prices for staples (bread, bananas, eggs) and even a couple of treats (grapefruit and mangoes) at my neighbourhood grocery store today.
  • The temperature was still so mild after dark, I did our evening walk wearing only one pair of pants and a sweater! (Probably a bit of cold hardiness happening there. In the fall I'd likely have worn a coat and gloves, maybe also a hat, and probably two pairs of pants to walk in the same temp. But after some of the bitter cold weather we've had recently, today's temperature felt nice.)

  • Shelby and I met many human and puppy friends, both new and old, out on our walks today, and had a good visit with our octogenarian friend
  • there was some messy weather out there today, but we managed to dodge it all and only walk during the dry spells

Thursday's Good Things:
  • my bathtub (plus all the bath bombs I had in storage during the years when I didn't have access to a bathtub are now soft enough I can easily break them down to the perfect size)
  • got caught up on missed sleep, and got some important work done and some food prep too!
  • finally made it to bed on time!

Friday's Good Things:
  • Shelby and I are together
  • we have a roof over our heads (in Wortley Village, no less!)
  • we live a peaceful life in which we have positive interactions with other humans every day (and almost never negative ones)
I was looking back through a journal last night and remembering how often and how deeply I feared, for several years, that we could never have these things. Yet here we are: living the dream!

Saturday's Good Things:
  • finally did a decent workout this day
  • saw a skunk on our evening walk (2nd time this week seeing this one)
  • had a lovely late night walk in gently falling snow. I love that our neighbourhood is active during the day but quiet and peaceful at night.
Sunday's Good Things:
  • we saw two Eastern Cottontails on our night walk. (Both were boldly unafraid of us. For which I was grateful, because we had to walk past one that was quite close to the road when there was an oncoming vehicle. That rabbit smartly deduced that a moving vehicle was a greater threat than Shelby and stood its ground as we walked past.)
  • I made it to my reward day for my new Extended Gaming Rules and soloed an absolutely ridiculous but fun game Sunday afternoon
  • everything is coming together wonderfully for the secret project--which will be announced soon!

3 good things that I noticed today:
🌞 its great when the sun shines and it gets al spring-like
🚲 its good to have a little basket on the front of ones bike, because one can put the hat and other too warm clothes in the basket when it gets too warm while cycling!
🚶its lovely to take a little walk around noon and enjoy the birdsong with know-it-al collegues (who actually know a thing or two about birds)
