@Laura Rainbow Dragon thanks and thank you! I'm a bit proud too 😊

@Anek thanks! Yes they do make those still! But the one I bought is an original from 1997!

Tuesday January 31st
My tamagotchi doesn't survive a work day. Got home after leaving it in perfect health this morning, finding my puppy dead. I remembered having trouble keeping it alive when we weren't allowed to bring them to school anymore. But I discovered a 'pause' option in the manual, so I'll try that on Thursday.

@TopNotch yes I did.. :surrender: but there is such button! I revived my little beagle, it just reincarnated. But it is very needy, it wants to play and eat every 30 minutes. If I'm away for an hour it is already unhappy. So now I know how it came that it died after being almost 11 hours from home 😅
@PetiteSheWolf thanks, I'll know tomorrow night!

Wednesday February 1st
Weird how it is February already.. I think time is playing a game, just sneaky fasting forward. I had a few tasks set for myself today, almost all checked off. Today too time just disappeared..
I finally got some boxes for my Christmas lights and got the time to bring everything to the attic. It's not that easy, the attic has a hatch with a ladder, and Pico just can climb ladders very easily and then she dives under the floor and doesn't want to come out. So I have to trap her into the living room before opening the hatch, but I have to fetch my star from behind the window in the living room to get it upstairs because it it too big to lie down and there's nothing I can hang it on (and it'smade of cardboard so breaks easily). And what do you think? I forgot that. And there's no light at the attic (I broke it with the ladder last year..) so when it's dark outside I can't see anything.. So my Chrismas star is still watching over the streets.

@JCU I was searching for boxes with a handle at the top, so I didn't have to carry it with two hands, but unfortunately I couldn't find it.

My puppy survived today! The pause function worked, but it is a lot of work to get it done. And I figured out it actually really pauses time and I have to adjust the time manually when I want to play further.

Okay, tamagotchi update 🤓
On Wednesday I had to start over because the thing crashed and rebooted. But, I used one of the 'secret' codes to get a German shepherd. But I killed him (by accident) because I played with him while he turned out to become very hungry of it and died of starvation.. good news is that another glitch gave me 2 newborn puppies instead of 1. And I discovered only 1 can be active at the same time, so only the active one grows and ages, but also only the active one can get needs or die. So no impractical using of codes to pause and unpause on work days, I just open the German shepherd angel to be the active puppy.
Okay [/nerd mode off]

But 2 with lots of time in between was okay. Ran a PR on a strava segment because of the first zom, I'm happy I evaded it anyway because the path has very steep hills up and down. Got 6th place in the women's leaderboard (582 runners), and 1st of this year's (21)/6th overall (65). And my achilles is doing good.

Chicory meaning the leaves? Could you share the recipe? This does sound very interesting!

@Laura Rainbow Dragon Here's the recipe. I hope I translated it in correct recipe-English, if anything is unclear please let me know.

Supplies
Oven tray (I use a smaller one with high sides, 23x30 cm)
Baking paper

Ingredients
Puff pastry (I use slices of 12x12 cm from the freezer)
4 red onions (I used 3 big ones)
500 g chicory (I used 4 big ones)
Olive oil (to bake in)
1 apple
3 eggs
150 g soft goat cheese
50 g walnuts broken
7.5 g fresh dill (I used 1 branch, was definitely not 7.5 g, I didn't measure but my guess would be maybe 1-2g?. The flavor was strong enough)

Directions
Set the oven on 100C (212 F). Cover the oven tray with baking paper. Let the puffed pastry defrost and cover the bottom and sides of the tray with it. Puncture a few holes in it with a fork.
Cut the onions into half rings. Cut the chicory in half, cut the core out and cut the leaves in slices of 1 cm. Bake with the olive oil the onions a few minutes, then add the chicory and bake another 5 minutes.
Cut the apple in quarters, cut out the core and then cut small slices of the apple (keep the peel on the apple).
Mix the 3 eggs with the goat cheese (you can split 1 off the eggs and use the yolk to spread over the puffed pastry) and put it on the bottom of your tray. Then add the chicory/onion, spread the dill and walnuts over it and finish with the apple slices. Fold the edges of the puffed pastry inwards, you can smear it with the egg yolk to get a nice brown result.
Bake it for 25 min in the oven.

Thank you @NancyTree !
That does look and sound very yummy indeed!

I am only not certain what you mean by "chicory". Is it what I would call "Belgian endive"? Here "chicory" normally refers to the whole wild plant (normally considered a weed--it grows here on gravel roadsides and in cracks in pavement in abandoned lots) or else to the root, which is used as a flavouring in herbal teas and the like. For chicory greens I can only get one of two cultivated varieties: radicchio or Belgian endive. The endive looks like in this picture -- except only the top, leafy part. I've not seen it sold with the root still attached. Also they are usually pretty small here: approximately the size of your fist.

@lofivelcro thanks, funny how there are so much differentiations within a language. In Dutch some words differ too across the country.
In the east people use the German word for 'worse', but pronounced Dutch so it becomes a word what means in Dutch 'smart'. If you don't know it you don't understand people saying something becoming 'smart', but they mean to say something is becoming 'worse'. Can you follow? 😅

@NancyTree @lofivelcro thank you!

Yes, a lot changes in English when you cross the pond. I was born in England, but I have lived in Canada since the day before my 3rd birthday. So I learned to speak British English (and Lanky at that, which can be quite different from how people speak in the south of England) but then quickly converted to Canadian English (meaning southern Ontario English--although regional dialects are not nearly as pronounced in Canada as they are in the UK). I still have some Britishisms in my speech, but I forget they are British and say them in Canada and people here look at me funny. On the other hand, often friends and relatives who are still back in England (and sometimes even my parents, who moved to Canada with me in 1974) say things to me that I no longer understand.

like "schlechter"?

I indeed mean Belgian endive, when searching for the translation on google it said it was called chicory.
aww man, the confusion over this plant!! In German, we call it "Chicorée", which looks French, right? Nu-uh, there's it's called "endive". But wait! We also have an Endivie! Elsewhere called a "Frisée" lettuce, though. Throw in some (British) English and the confusion is complete...
Let's go back to calling it "Wegwarte", I say :imp:

@Laura Rainbow Dragon wah Lancashire! My dad's family were from there (and also West Midlands / Birmingham). I had a couple of stints in Australia, but have lost that accent completely. I mostly sound British English, but adapted for when I know I'm speaking with North American people (like switching "apartment" for "flat" etc.).

I actually lived in Springhead, Yorkshire. But I was born in Oldham, and my parents were both born in Ashton. My maternal grandfather worked his whole career in a Lancashire cotton mill.

People still say "flat" here on the east coast. (At least the Haligonians do.) Here in Ontario it's definitely "apartment".

@SkorpionUK I mean the German word 'schlimm', which according to google translate actually means 'terrible' in English 😅 so my English translation got mixed up (was too lazy to use google translate). But Dutch people in the east pronounce schlimm as 'slim' which is Dutch for smart.

I really love language 😊

@Laura Rainbow Dragon I think it's interesting how our language changes with our context. When I was a kid I spoke more dialect, but I lost that when my grandmother died (at home my parents spoke plain Dutch). And some pronunciations changed when I went to high school in a city only 15 km away but with a totally different dialect and pronunciations.

ohhhhhh yeah that makes sense! I kind of think I may have learned 'slim' once, but I couldn't recall it, and 'schlechter' seemed plausible somehow.
Me too! I'm glad I get to work with language.

My run went very well, especially when realising I had to climb a  mountain (according to Dutch standards ;) ) and of course a zombie came after me halfway up. My legs were so painful at 3/4th I decided to slow down but that meant I had to drop supplies. Looking at the distance of the chase, I might have evaded it if I could hold on for a second longer.
It was my uncle's birthday, the family asked me to play something on the piano, but I haven't played much last months (like, only 3 times), and it hurts me to notice I couldn't play any piece by heart anymore.. not even the ones I play for over a decade.. so, I really need to get playing again.

Today I felt like going to bed early, but when I started (finally) with drawing some door designs, I couldn't stop. And I still I haven't found the color combination of the glass I like.. Then I tried to make something myself, and that looks awesome. But I'm not sure if they will be able to produce that for me. So I still have to find a color pattern for a standard design that I would like. I really loved the design I saw at the shop, but I think it's one of those things in which 'less is more'. Oh my.. decisions..

Door best option
There's a subtle difference in the light blue, and the panel on the bottom is 1 big one instead of 2 smaller

@JCU @Anek thanks! I am very conflicted between the two options. The 2 panes makes it more chic, but I find it very notable, I want the attention drawn to the glass, 1 gives a more calm appearance. I saw a door with 2 panes in the neighborhood and that was actually pretty nice, not at all taking the attention away from the glass. So I think I will go back in daylight to look better in real life.

@TopNotch thanks!

Last days were very rough.

Short version:
Been with my mom to doctors three days in a row with severe pain, still no clue what's going on.

Long version:
Tuesday night my mom got severe pain in her groin, so much she had to vomit. I took her to the GP (her own wasn't available so the colleage) on Wednesday, she had high sugar levels despite the fact she didn't eat or drink since >12h. He thought of a seriously syndrome of high sugar which gives abdominal pain and vomiting, but he wanted to do blood tests the next day or day after that. 🤷🏼‍♀️ so I pressured him to do it that afternoon (as I was there to drive her). No abnormalities came out, but also no explanation of the pain. The pain was subsided in the afternoon.
Next day I didn't hear anything from her, but when I called her after work it turned out the pain had come back that morning, but she didn't call the doc and at that moment it was already 7pm so the doc's office was closed. 'But what can they do?' She asked.. uh tests?
So I went with her to the on call GP, he did a physical exam and couldn't find an explanation, so watchful waiting. I thought she might have a fracture of her pelvis or hip, because she fell on Tuesday, but he set that aside.
Friday I called her in the morning, she still had the pain, and she thought it got worse. So I called her GP (her regular one) and got an appointment the afternoon. She was a bit worried about my mom too by seeing her, did another exam and found pain in her pubis bone. But, she sent her to the gynaecologist to exclude anything being wrong with her cyst. I'm happy that's checked, but what about the bone? The GP says that doing an XRay doesn't help, because you can't do anything about a fracture there. But, isn't it worth enough to know what's going on? And to tell something about prognosis?
The gynaecologist didn't find anything abnormal (besides the cyst being a cyst).

So, still no clue. I still think she has a fracture. She got tramadol, which I'm not happy with but acetaminophen doesn't do anything and she can't have NSAIDs due to her cancersurgery in the past. I also thought that it maybe could be metastases from her cancer? I don't know it that's possible with the type of cancer she had, but my brother had bone metastases 4 years after being treated for stomach cancer. Oesophagus is the same type of organ, right?

Oh and: the high sugar levels? The GP doesn't find it alarming. I get that it doesn't have anything to do with the pain, but: high blood sugars! What if she's back to eating normal? She's eating nothing roght now.. Wouldn't it be a problem if the pain's gone and she eats normally? I don't understand...

I sent her a text this morning (it's almost 10am) but she hasn't answered yet. I hope she hadn't fallen or gotten confused or something this night because of the meds.. If she doesn't answer soon I need to call her again.

I'm so tired.. didn't sleep much

I did keep my streaks though, I don't remember what I did which days so no log.

High glycaemia in someone who has been not eating much, and pain that's maybe bone pain in a former cancer patient? Yikes. I get it that diagnosing a broken pelvis won't help treatment, but "knowing" would help, and there seems indeed to be there are other diagnosis to clean off the differential diagnosis table. Wishing you and your mom strength - and wisdom in your doctors...
