Today I decided to continue on my path toward hypertrophy. I started the Power Builder program, and holy Apis! I had to reduce my dumbbells back to six kilos!

I'm not going to lie to you, I was one rep away from regretting it. But, while this has shown me how far I still have to go, I won't get very far if I stop to look for easier routes. So...

Something wonderful happened today. As I was walking past the sports center, a brand new tennis ball literally fell from the sky in front of my dog. You can't imagine how happy he was!

And no, it didn't belong to anyone; it was from one of those huge buckets with hundreds of balls for the kids' classes.

Good morning, everyone!

There's a high probability that this afternoon I'll be going to my partner's dimension to help her with some things there. That's why I've been proactive and done my exercise now!

Also yesterday, during my walk, I saw and remembered that the building right next to my temple (which I hardly ever see because I always leave from the other side, the one with the gardens) is a gym! And not just any gym, but a professional bodybuilding gym for international competition!

And I'm not going to lie, I'm thinking about going to check it out and maybe even signing up. If the rumors are true, there's always a trainer with you, the capacity is limited and, as a result, it's quiet, and they take all aspects of your life into account when designing your routine. It might be the ideal place for an autistic person with hypermobility like me to learn how to exercise properly.

I just hope I don't have to mortgage the temple to pay for it...

And in the worst case, I can always spend some time there just to learn and then continue on my own again.

Good evening, everyone!

The gym is so exclusive that I had to make an appointment just to get information. My accountant ushabti is trembling with fear right now, even though he has no feelings.

I don't even have an answer yet. I hope I can go soon.

On the other hand, my body is desperately fighting to catch up on sleep. And I'm going in waves. Three or four days sleeping four to six hours, and then suddenly, boom! Twelve hours of sleep! And back to square one. Anyway, I hope everything stabilizes soon.

Also, I don't think I've mentioned this yet, but part of the temple gardens have been under renovation for some time now and you still can't go in, but I'm dying for them to finish and open it so I can spend an afternoon there reading. And Moofasa too!
Apparently, it's not a renovation per se, it's more of a renaturalization. Basically, a couple of centuries ago, someone brought in beautiful, exotic plants that have turned out to be a time bomb for our climate, and now they're returning the native flora to its natural environment so that the ecosystems can regain their balance. And I can't wait to see what new old birds and insects return to the gardens! (Yes, I'm one of those creatures who sees a bug and stops to watch it for hours!)
In addition, all these renaturalization projects usually come with dozens of explanatory signs throughout the area about all the plants and animals that can be found there. And I love those things.

Yes, you read that right. I canceled the Power Builder program. Here's why:

I went to the bodybuilding gym next to my temple this morning, and wow, it's amazing!

I was attended to by the owner, an elderly man who is incredibly fit. First green flag.

He gave me a thorough checkup. Height, weight, measurements... He also made a list of what I usually eat, what equipment I have at home, and my daily routine in general. I thought he would say what I usually hear at all gyms. That I'm fat, that I eat terribly, that my routine is awful... But, to my surprise, he told me that he was very impressed, that my diet is great and that he will help me maximize the benefits of what I already eat to the fullest and that it's clear that I have a broad and robust body.

I told him that I'm not looking for aesthetics, but rather a strong and functional body. And he said that's perfect, because according to him, I have everything it takes to be a good powerlifter, and we'll work to give me the tank-like body I'd like to have.

Apparently, the payment is for general admission, which means that as long as I'm registered, I can go whenever I want and for as long as I want. He told me that he has worked with autistic creatures, that he understands and respects our need for peace and quiet, and that I will have that at his gym. I also told him about my food sensitivities, and he said he would adapt the diet for me without any problems.

To finish up, he told me that he could tell I had done my homework, that I am a guy who knows what he wants and that I want to train seriously and not go there to show off and brag about my strength. So he told me to come first thing tomorrow morning and that we would start my training right away!

I felt so listened to and confident! I can't wait to start tomorrow!

So yes, I canceled my program, but only because I'm going to do professional powerlifting! Awoohoo!

So now, when I write to you about my progress, I'll separate the days I do my Darebee exercises from the days I go to the gym!

Gods, I feel like I've just started a new chapter in my life. I'm really excited!

First day at the gym!

The gym was completely empty, just the trainer and me. Today he taught me some warm-up exercises, how to use some of the machines to work my torso, and a couple of basic abs exercises. In short, today I worked my chest, shoulders, back, and did a few abs exercises.

He was impressed that I naturally do the exercises slowly, rather than doing the repetitions quickly. He helped me correct a couple of postures and, as he did so, he said, ā€œMan, are you sure you haven't been to the gym before? Your muscles are super hard!ā€ I guess these months of Darebee have laid a good foundation for me!

He also told me to always carry water with me. He said that if a normal person needs two liters a day, a body like mine should drink at least three.

Tomorrow he'll teach me exercises and machines for my arms and give me my own gym access card!

What a great experience. And what a relief to be able to do my exercises calmly without a line of people waiting to use the machine. Or the classic group of guys chatting and bragging about their strength, taking up space without doing anything.

Plus, the place is super quaint. The owner himself told me how he doesn't want to collaborate with any brands, which is why he doesn't have all the latest machines and the gym doesn't have a cohesive style. He told me that he himself has invested a lot of time and effort in finding the machines he was specifically looking for. New machines, old machines, discontinued machines. Each and every one of them made of pure iron with no embellishments of any kind. It's a super classic, homey, bohemian gym.

I'm super satisfied.

Second day at the gym! Today we worked arms and legs.

I reached failure several times but wasn't far from completing the reps for each set. My arms and legs feel super pumped and hard!

There were more people today, but the atmosphere was still calm. What a difference from other gyms with their fifty thousand noisy, space-hogging gym bros who make you feel constantly judged.

This time I was able to scan the gym more carefully and see not only the obvious huge machines but also small pieces of equipment hidden away that have greatly piqued my curiosity. Among them was a bar with huge bearings and two gigantic chains with enormous links! I don't know what kind of exercises you do with those things, but I definitely want to try them!

But now I must focus and establish a good foundation.

Good evening, everyone!

This week I've been suffering from allergies at night, so today I spent the day thoroughly cleaning my chamber! What? Of course I don't let my ushabtis do it! I have hundreds of relics here. As ancient as they are delicate, as delicate as they are valuable, and as valuable as they are dangerous.

There's a reason why the hosts of The Unmentionable One are trying to take my temple so stoically, you know? And I can't let anyone handle those relics but me.

On the other hand, I've had terrible muscle soreness today, which has made the task quite a feat. Although I was able to try the protein shake as my trainer told me to. With two tablespoons of rice cream instead of oats. And wow, absolutely delicious!

Absolutely! And I was so nervous the first day, you know? Being so professional and specialized, I thought it would be much more expensive and that I'd have to pay by the hour or something. But not at all! Full access, as many hours and days as I want, and no more expensive than the other gyms in the area that do charge by the hour and are packed. I've definitely been incredibly lucky here!

Today I was there for about an hour and forty minutes, because I took the opportunity to do some cycling.

I learned how to use even more machines, and among them, I did what Mr. Incredible does with the two trains!

On the other hand, I've had another day of allergies with the corresponding poor quality rest. I already knew what was coming and checked the pollen map to confirm my suspicions, and sure enough, we have an overload of pollen in the air.

So, well, it's time to take antihistamines again. ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

I completely forgot to write about my day today, and I've already taken my gummy to help me sleep. So I'll be brief so I don't end up falling asleep on the keyboard. That would be soooooo Bast...

Once again, I had nighttime allergies, but they seem to be less severe. Let's see if I sleep better tonight.

On the other hand, I went to the barber today. I wanted to try a new look, plus I needed a trim because my fur was starting to get a little shaggy.

The gym was fine, but because of my appointment with the barber, I ended up arriving at rush hour. There were a lot of people, so I think I'll go in the morning or, failing that, at noon, as far as possible.

Good evening, everyone!

Well, another day at the gym completed!

I'm still adjusting my level. I'm taking note of how much I can lift in each exercise, getting as close as possible to failure or even failing, but only by a couple of repetitions. And yet, I finish my whole routine feeling like I can still do more. But hey, little by little.

I've gone back to going in the morning, and I'll definitely try to come at this time as long as possible. The afternoon is crazy. And there aren't even that many people there, maybe eight at most, but in such a small gym, that's a lot.

An interesting fact is that I couldn't help noticing that my breakfast turned out to be very, very sunny. Full of white and orange/yellow. That is, two fried eggs, skyr with honey, my vitamin C juice, and, for after training, my protein shake with rice cream and a banana on the side. For some reason, it made me happy to realize this.

I'm also trying to drink more water. I manage to drink about a liter and a half a day, but I'm supposed to drink a little over three liters based on my body weight. And wow, that's tough. Not only because I find it hard to drink water in general, but also because I don't drink that much of any liquid. And having to drink ā€œwithout being thirstyā€ well... It's going to be hard for me. But hey, little by little again!

Good evening, everyone!

Yesterday I took the day off completely. And yes, I missed my protein shake almost obsessively. But it was a day of deep jazz, incense, a warm brazier, and reading.

Today at the gym, I did my exercises once again trying to reach or get close to muscle failure and religiously noting down every weight. When I finished, my trainer's words echoed: ā€œThere's a time and place for everything, but not no...ā€ Wait, those weren't... ā€œIf you finish your training day but feel like you could keep going, it means you haven't given it your all!ā€

So when I finished, I told him about my insecurity. That I'm trying to push myself to failure in everything, but I end up feeling like I could still do more and more. And something doesn't add up here.

He told me that rule applies when you've been at it for a while and can lift very heavy weights. He says I'm the first creature who comes into his gym as a virtual beginner and within a week is already aiming for failure. That I'm already giving it my all and not to worry, the fatigue will come.

I certainly feel much more confident now and won't worry so much while I'm exercising.

Love skyr, I discovered it when traveling in Iceland 2 years ago (already!!!), and still a regular staple here for both calcium and proteins.
It's hard to believe it's cheese and not yogurt, right? And you can add so many things to make it even better! You have no idea how grateful I am that it's finally arrived in my little village and I don't have to ask poor Fenrir to bring it every time he comes to visit.

I like to combine it with honey and/or berries! What do you add to it?

Hey, if some of us eat salmon, we can definitely eat honey too! Bears don't have a monopoly on the forest!

Fun fact: yes, some wolves take advantage of the salmon run to hunt them, and interestingly, Ethiopian wolves have also been found to consume flower nectar, earning them the nickname ā€œpollinator wolves.ā€ Interesting, right?

So yes, you can eat honey. That's part of our lore too! :LOL:

Good evening, everyone!

Today I had cramps in my wrist again, even though I was wearing wristbands. Luckily, my trainer has plenty of resources and has suggested variations on the exercises that work the same muscles without bending the wrist in the way that affects me. However, I'm starting to worry, so I've made an appointment with the doctor. Let's see what it could be and if there's a solution. Maybe I should do a series of exercises to strengthen my wrist or some specific stretches before going to the gym, I don't know.

On the other hand, I'm glad to see that I remember all the exercises without any problems. I already feel comfortable at the gym. Although I still don't dare to talk to anyone, not even to say, ā€œHey, are you going to use that machine?ā€ But anyway. I vary the order of my exercises depending on the availability of each piece of equipment. In general, I feel very comfortable and I look forward to going. On the days when I don't have to go to the gym, I feel impatient.

And I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but there's a guy who is always, always, always there. No matter what time I go, he's always there before me and always stays after I leave. Is he training to compete?:thinking:

Today was a strange session, as there was no one else in the gym. No clients, no trainers, not even the owner. So I was practically alone until, almost at the end, a guy showed up who turned out to be an old classmate. So we caught up while I finished my routine. It's interesting to see how some people don't change at all, no matter how many years go by. He's exactly the same as he was as a teenager. While I was doing my last exercise, the two friends he trains with happened to arrive. And well... to sum up their conversation: "Ho ho, cars! Ho ho, girls! Ho ho, look at that car! Ho ho, look at that girl!" (I won't go into vulgar details, but you can imagine... I've seen wild boars take mud baths with more class and finesse.) Sometimes I wonder if it's a mask or if there's really nothing else beneath the shell. I'd like to think they'll shut up and keep those commentaries to themselves when there are women in the gym, but who am I kidding, that would be asking too much... :sus:

Good evening, everyone!

Well, I'm starting the third of eight weeks of basic exercises at the gym to build a foundation. I'm already moving freely when doing the exercises. Now that I know the weight I can handle for each exercise, I'm going to try to increase it a little each day (which will inevitably lead to muscle failure) and immediately switch back to my weight until I finish the exercise. Let's see if I can improve little by little this way.

First thing tomorrow morning, I'm going to have my wrist checked. Hopefully, it can be fixed with exercises and routines and I won't need any more serious intervention.

These days, my histamine levels are sky-high again, and I'm barely sleeping. As a concept, and according to my partner, it's obvious that I'm physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted. But oh, surprise, I don't notice anything. Damn blurred interoception that makes me think everything is fine.

There's really not much else to say. These days, my life seems to boil down to sleeping, going to the gym, and napping. Although, once again, that seems to be my impression. My partner says I'm juggling a lot of things and that my exhaustion is completely normal. And, honestly, I'm so grateful for their validation. Because if it were up to me, I'd be putting even more pressure on myself.

I know the tone in which I seem to be writing this, but don't worry. I'm fine!

Hey, how's it going, creatures of the multiverse?

Today was a rest day (from the gym at least, because phew, what a day!), so I don't have much to say about my exercise progress, but I don't know, I'm feeling chatty tonight. Maybe it's the stamina potion...

Today, among other things, I went back to my partner's dimension to help her with her affairs. And I don't know if it's because my senses are more sensitive than usual today, or because I blocked myself off with my headphones and consequently had fewer stimuli to process, or what, but... You know those typical characters from the countryside/forest/nature in general in movies and books (elves, druids, centaurs, werewolves, and so on...) who always complain that big cities stink when they go there? Man, it's so true! Today I noticed it and wow, I couldn't ignore it anymore. So it's confirmed, I'm a little country flower. Relevance? None, but I felt like saying it.

As for my wrist... well... Once at the clinic, they told me that my appointment had been canceled cause my family doctor was on strike today. So if I want to see him, I have to wait another month because there are no appointments available before then. And the best part is that I just need a referral to a physical therapist. So I have to make an appointment in a month with my doctor to make an appointment with the physical therapist for... whenever. Anyway... Luckily, it's a small town, and maybe I can pull a few strings to skip the family doctor part. I mean... I've been to the emergency room and I have the diagnosis, I have to go to the physical therapist for sure, I just need my family doctor to refer me. It literally takes 20 seconds, I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

Finally, yesterday I asked my trainer about some rather exotic-looking machines at the gym (which I mentioned earlier), and wow, what a lot of information! Apparently, they are very specific machines that are manufactured in very specific places or, in some cases, they are older versions of today's machines. And wow, there's one thing that I'm definitely obsessed with and that will be my goal and motivation to use. They are two huge chains, (and when I say huge, I mean HUGE!) with a very few links, I don't know if they have 15 links each, but what links they are. Each link could weigh more than a kilo (for a total of 17 kilos per chain, or about 75 pounds between the two) and they are part of an advanced powerlifting exercise in which the more you lift the bar with the chains hanging, the heavier it gets! Just imagining the sound gives me chills! I can't wait to try it! And I want to make it one of my signature exercises! No one will ever chain Fenrir again if I can help it!

Oh, it's not a specific machine. The chains have a round clamp at the end with the same diameter as the holes in the discs so that they can be attached to any bar or machine. So you can use them in any exercise instead of the regular discs. It's really interesting!

Good evening, everyone!

Oh, gods. Yesterday I completely forgot to do my report!

Yesterday, I had plans to go to my best friend's dimension to spend the afternoon (well, my other best friend who isn't my partner) to finish watching A Series of Unfortunate Events, which he still had pending.

It's a really curious friendship. He's always up for anything and is always on the go. He meets local rappers, befriends them, they invite him on tour, he goes, we don't see each other for months, he comes back and nothing has changed. Suddenly, he gets a job with some friends somewhere else and moves away, and I don't see him for another season, he comes back and nothing has changed. We can go years without seeing each other, and when we meet again, we pick up our friendship right where we left off. In fact, we always comment on how strange we find people who think that if they don't see each other, their relationships cool off.

Besides, his room would delight any collector, if there are any around here. He's always collecting everything he sees, it's amazing. Three days ago, for example, he was finishing building an arctic assault robot when I arrived in his dimension, and he asked me if I wanted to help him finish it before we started the series, so we did.

Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. Yesterday's session at the gym was interesting. The day before, I didn't drink any water and spent more hours on the computer than I should have, honestly. So I went with my left arm feeling a little tense and sore. This ended up triggering a strain, which luckily didn't affect the rest of my routine since I didn't have to use that particular muscle anymore. On the other hand, when I went to do the trapezius exercise, well... I got a cramp in my wrist again, even with the variation my trainer told me to do. So he told me to skip that exercise (which worked the trapezius and some of the shoulders) and do an isolation exercise just for the trapezius. Luckily, I already do a lot of shoulder exercises, so I'm not missing out on anything.

And yes, that exercise definitely works well for me because it doesn't require any wrist bending. It's the one where you grab two dumbbells and shrug your shoulders.

On the other hand, I don't know if I'm supposed to notice any improvement after only three weeks of exercise, but I'm already starting to be able to lift a little more weight in each exercise. So I'm satisfied!

Good evening, everyone!

Today my energy levels have been below zero. I had allergies again last night, and it's really getting on my nerves. Because it's turning out to be one of those annoying allergies that goes away for two days so you let your guard down, and then it comes back again. In short, I woke up exhausted, slept in to make up for it, so I went to the gym in the afternoon and well... The thing about the gym in the afternoon is that it's crowded. And that's not really a problem, because as much as I like to train alone, the people at this gym are pretty laid back and friendly. Or well... most of them. But man, the background music is another story. In the morning, there's pop and rock from the 80s and 90s, some techno music, and, in general, quite a variety. Because there's no one there. But this is a democracy and the majority wins, so in the afternoon, when there are people around, there's reggaeton 24/7, just like in every damn bar, business, party, car, yoga class, store, advertisement, event, stadium, group of kids walking around with a speaker, kitchen, school, restaurant, workshop, airport, and, in general, anything that emits sound on this plane of existence. And I'm fed up, fed up. I've spent the last, what? 20? 25? years of my life listening to a musical genre with the same base, the same voices, the same lyrics, and the same look from its singers. I can't tell one song from another. And not only that, but I have to put up with being the weird one because literally no one else seems to like anything else. It's... very tiring.

You go to a rock clothing store and this plays, you go to an Italian cafƩ in a landscaped park and this plays, you watch an X-themed carnival parade (Mad Max, Norse mythology, casino games, Isaac Asimov... whatever!) and this plays! So much different music, so many styles and genres and atmospheres and feelings and nuances and colors that could accompany and be the perfect background music, the icing on the cake to create the atmosphere you've worked so hard to recreate with your exquisite decor. But no. Because what could be better for your luxury clothing store with its warm, golden art deco aesthetic, plush maroon carpeting, and light fixtures that cast wonderful rays of light on the floral viridian wall than to have some guy in the background bellowing in a super neutral voice and bland tone about how much he likes to see girls twerking? Why enhance that luxury and grandeur with Gustav Holst's Jupiter or give it a more lighthearted touch with some good Electro Swing, preserve the calm and stately feel with Bach's Cello Suite No. 1, or go for a more cinematic vibe with La Vie en Rose? No! Let's just spend all our money on an impeccable staging so that, once inside, you hear exactly the same thing you hear in the wasteland behind the abandoned industrial park. Of course!

And the worst part? It works! *Grimace of indignation.*

I'm sorry. I don't want to sound elitist or anything, and I understand that if everyone likes it, there must be a reason. But gosh, I just want a little variety every now and then...

Ah, the choice of music atmosphere... I agree, I didn't know the term for it but this kinda neutral, peudo-hip sound in so many places. One of the reaasons I really like one of the brasseries in my area is that they definitly go for "oldies but goodies" , at least at luchtime when I may be tempted to take a real break and go eat outside. It is also one of my criteria to choose a hairdresser - nope, won't subject myself to bad music long enough for a hair color!!!
And yoga classes should be silent. Not even "meditation music", pleaaaaaase -just the voice of the teacher and our breathes. That's not always possible, I admit, for example if it is in a gym setting where sound from other classes or activities filter through and a light meditative music may help, but really, really, please.... That's really a moment where silence is golden.
(and to continue on music and exercise, I appreciate les mills classes, but sometimes their soundtracks, ouch!)

Sure, no problem!

I make my protein shakes with about half a liter.
To start, I pour in about 450 ml of sweetened almond milk.

Then I add two tablespoons of powdered rice cereal for babies.

And, finally, almost an entire scoop of protein powder.
Specifically BiotechUSA's 100% pure whey in red berry cheesecake flavor.

Then, I blend it using a smoothie blender. That way it's more uniform.
And I put it in the fridge and leave it there until I finish exercising so that it's nice and cold when I drink it.​

I tried adding a banana to the mixture, but I think it ruins the flavor, so I eat it separately before drinking the shake.

I tried to find flavors that I liked and a texture and temperature that I enjoyed, especially after exercising. That's why I like them so much. I've gotten used to thinking of them as the ultimate reward after each session. It's not that I want to have one after training, it's that I want to train so I can have one!

Ah, the choice of music atmosphere... I agree, I didn't know the term for it but this kinda neutral, peudo-hip sound in so many places. One of the reaasons I really like one of the brasseries in my area is that they definitly go for "oldies but goodies" , at least at luchtime when I may be tempted to take a real break and go eat outside. It is also one of my criteria to choose a hairdresser - nope, won't subject myself to bad music long enough for a hair color!!!
And yoga classes should be silent. Not even "meditation music", pleaaaaaase -just the voice of the teacher and our breathes. In my case, I prefer to always have some background music (or white noise if necessary) because that way I don't hear people's noises, which are what really distract me. Besides, I'm one of those people who feel safer with music. Like someone is keeping me company. But of course, just as you wouldn't deliberately choose someone who made you uncomfortable to be with you, I'd prefer not to listen to super annoying music while I'm doing anything. And, unfortunately, that's the most commercial and widely consumed music around here. Literally everywhere. I know it sounds like an exaggeration and that it's very Sith-like to talk in absolutes, but in this case, it's an empirical and practically scientific fact.

And damn it, reggaeton is party music with incredibly sexual, explicit, intimate, and, in my opinion, extremely vulgar and tactless lyrics. I don't want to listen to that stuff when I'm peacefully shopping, at the hairdresser's, working out, or having a romantic dinner with my partner! And I'm surprised no one else here seems to notice! I even hear it in schools! In schools!!! In kindergarten classes!

It's truly alarmingly normalized. :(

My gym has no music, and bans people from playing it out loud. I'm very spoiled in that regard. I use ear buds to filter out conversations, and because my favourite tunes help get me going.

I've literally never heard reggaeton in the wild over here, so I guess it's a cultural thing? We do have an overabundance of k-pop and canto pop, which I'm very much tempted to level the same criticisms at. At the end of the day, someone likes that stuff, and they can't force me to like their music, and that's enough for me. I'll stick to my preferred music genres.

Good evening, everyone!

Today I saw a guy arguing for twenty minutes with the trainer about nutrition because I don't know what about his friends who only do cardio and have a fast metabolism and he wants that (in a powerlifting and bodybuilding gym) instead of gaining more weight (pure muscle, confusing it with fat weight, I guess) and then proceed to stand in front of the mirror and take fifty photos with the gym in the background and a duck face.

I don't think this guy is exercising for the right reason. I hope this insecurity is just due to inexperience and doesn't degenerate into something worse... :(

Good evening, everyone!

Yesterday, a courier delivered a couple of boxes of various goods to the temple. Even though Moofasa or my ushabtis were around, I had to go in person from the gym to sign for the delivery. Luckily, I'm only a few steps away.

Honestly, I don't remember what I did for the rest of the day, other than chatting with my partner. Maybe because I didn't do anything else. I don't know, I remember it all as if it were a long time ago.

Anyway, today is Sunday, and I treated myself to a cream pretzel and a matcha latte for breakfast. And to top off the morning, I completed the Tangle and Whisper festival. Awoohoo!

Now... I don't know... I'll think of something. Maybe continue reading Sherlock Holmes? Solve some puzzles? Entertain myself with riddles? Learn something new? Play an Escape Room game? Or chess? Gods, with all this gym time, I've completely neglected my mind. It seems my brain needs to let off some steam too.

Good evening, everyone!

Well, another day done. Today I was prepared and brought my headphones. Nothing like my own playlist to get me pumped up at the gym. Plus, that way I don't have to listen to everyone else's grunts or get startled every time they drop the weights. No one uses negative force, they just lift the weights on the machines and then drop them. If the machines were mine, I'd be pretty pissed off, but oh well.

God, I've been so critical lately. That's a sign that I need a major recharge. You know, lock myself in my room and not see the light of day for a week.

On the other hand, I went to the doctor to have my wrist checked again. Apparently, it's not a tendon but a nerve that gets pinched when I exert force. In a little while, I'll go to another center to have some X-rays taken. In the best-case scenario, I'll have an internal callus from repetitive movements with my wrist while drawing or being on my PC 24/7, which will be solved with a little rest. In the worst case, I'll have a Professor Layton puzzle on my arm that someone will have to solve with my wrist open. Let's hope it's the first option. I couldn't bear to know that someone else had solved a puzzle and it wasn't me.

Yes, I tend to watch my own operations live. As long as I'm anesthetized and that part is covered up so that it doesn't look like my own body, I can sit quietly and chat with the doctors, watching them perform the operation and asking questions about it. I love understanding the procedure and having them explain everything to me as they do it. Apparently, it's quite an experience for them too. Curious, huh?

But then I get dizzy with needles; my apprehension is incredibly selective.

Today was a day for testing my limits. Tomorrow I'll rest, so the day after tomorrow I'll start my second month, so I wanted to try increasing the weight for some exercises. And I was able to do it for some!

I'm also starting to feel more confident with some of the people I see most often when I go, and I've already had a few conversations and even received help and advice from some of them.

I'm feeling more and more comfortable. And it seems that I'm already learning how to improve my posture in some exercises so I don't hurt myself. Everything seems to be going swimmingly!

If I manage to sleep well tonight, it will have been a perfect day!

Good evening, everyone!

Yesterday I forgot to tell you about my workout, but that's nothing that can't be fixed. I'll tell you about both yesterday and today at once!

Yesterday, there was no one else at the gym when I went except for my trainer, the owner. I took the opportunity to ask him about a chest exercise I wasn't sure I was doing correctly, as I felt all the work in my arms instead of my pecs. So he came over and told me not to worry and that I was doing it right.

After that, he looked at my exercise chart and saw that I've been taking notes on all my exercises and keeping track of all the weight I lift in each one. He was very pleased with that. And finally, he told me to let him know when I finished my next week, the sixth, because we would move on to the next level. He has already told me that it will be a much more specialized 6-day rotation routine and that I would start doing real strength exercises.

And today, well, it was a pretty normal session. Although I will say that I pushed myself hard in some exercises and found that this meant I didn't perform as well as usual in others. Interesting. Now I have to see what is best, whether to try to balance everything or to push myself harder in exercises that work on many things at the expense of not being as efficient in isolation exercises.

I'm learning a lot!

Good evening, everyone!

I've been gone for three days! And here I am back again!

It turns out my wrist is fine after all; it's just a matter of hypermobility. Do you know what limits are? Well, my joints don't. My wrist bends so far that it ends up pinching the tendon. So I talked to my trainer, and he said he'd show me an exercise to strengthen it so this doesn't keep happening.

Just today I started the sixth week of this routine, and I already have an appointment on Thursday to review my progress with my trainer and have him teach me the new routine so I can start it next Monday.

On another note, it’s starting to get warmer here already. And I’ve found a tick in my room, making tiny threatening gestures at me and my dog. So we went to the vet to get a parasite pill. No more worries!

As for my day-to-day life... well. I’m needing more rest than I thought. But I’m already starting to feel a lot better. Yay!

At my gym, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of photos and bronze statues of famous bodybuilders, boxers, and, in general, people with incredibly muscular bodies striking poses. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone, people I don’t know but who—judging by the quality of the images—are clearly idols from the ’80s and so on. And there’s only one person in the entire gym who has more photos than Arnold, who has way more than anyone else. A person I don’t recognize at all—the typical huge bodybuilder. The biggest photo has a dedication and says that, at the time the photo was taken, he was the Spanish champion and ranked 4th in the world in bodybuilding. I don’t know anything about the world of bodybuilding, so I didn’t think much of it.

Well, the other day, while waiting for my trainer—the short, thin, venerable old man—to be free so I could discuss a couple of things with him, I saw a small frame with a family photo on the table. The photo shows my trainer in the late ’90s, judging by the graininess of the photo, the slight blur, and the red-eye. The perfect middle ground between his current physique and the anonymous bodybuilder in the big poster. And that’s when it clicked in my head—as I looked at that photo, I could recognize the face more clearly. That bodybuilder is him!

Wow, this has gone from zero to a hundred really fast! I’ll treasure any advice this person gives me about exercise even more than I already do. This isn’t a trainer—this is a master!

Good evening, everyone!

Well, here I am again. I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather this week, so I decided to take it easy. I’ve been taking care of myself by eating soups, trying to get some sleep—though I’m still a light sleeper—and, basically, trying not to overexert myself.

My plan is to be back in top form by Monday to start my new routine. It looks… intense, judging by Moofasa’s expressions while I was showing it to him on paper. Yes, the same minotaur who lifts the couch with one hand to sweep instead of bending down and running the broom underneath like a normal person.

To start, I have to do a series of two sets of abs and planks every day. Then I have a first day for chest and triceps, a second for back and biceps, and a third for legs and shoulders. Plus an optional but highly recommended fourth day with a full-body circuit to really take it up a notch. Many of the exercises have one or two variations that I’ll need to rotate each week; others involve increasing the weight and decreasing the reps in each set; and nearly half are called ā€œsupersets,ā€ which basically involve using two machines at once—doing one set on one, and then, when finished, moving to the other to work different muscles while the first ones rest. And so on until I’ve done four sets of each.

But anyway, I won't set my goals too high for the first two weeks. First, I'm going to learn the exercises and figure out exactly how much weight I can lift for each one. Now is when I'm really going to start strength training!

Good evening, everyone!

First week with the new routine. It’s been really interesting to see how everything has unfolded.

My trainer wasn’t there the first two days, since he manages several gyms and apparently one of them needs some renovations and repairs. So I had to ask the people who were there to show me how to do the exercises. Luckily, I went at my usual time and I already know those people.

The day before yesterday, on the third day, I did a quick review of the first two days with my trainer to make sure I was doing the exercises correctly, and he taught me the new ones for that day as well. I also had to do my first superset. That means using two machines at the same time, using one while resting from the other.

And today was an important day when it was essential to meet up with my trainer, since I did my first powerlifting exercise. Deadlift. And he wanted to be there to teach me personally. At first, he gave me the bar without any plates so I could practice the stance. And surprise—my stance was absolutely perfect on the first try. My trainer told me it’s really rare for someone to do it that perfectly on their first attempt, and that most people need to do reps and practice for a while before they start adding weight. So right from the start, he loaded me up with 50 kilos—no more, no less.
And here I have to pause for a moment, because this has been possible thanks to Darebee. Although I haven’t done deadlifts per se, I’ve already been practicing something similar with dumbbells in one of the programs I followed. So thank you so much for giving me such a solid foundation!

And now it's time to rest. I'm absolutely exhausted.
