Only Homemade (15 days) Day 2 - I already almost collapsed on this challenge, but partly because of it, I forced myself to cook tonight. I have three more meals as leftovers.

Rehab:
- Lying heel slides 2 x 10es
- Side-lying hip abduction and march 2 x 10es
- Glute bridge 3 x 15
- Quad sets 3 x 10es
- Step-downs 2 x 10es
- TKE 3 x 15es

I'm such a trend-setter! When the Lad was here and we went for a walk, I pointed out that all the houses around here have the same windows. Almost to the floor, with the bottom panel fixed. Two panels above with one fixed, the other a sliding window. I think one or two houses have been renovated and have the window frames in a different colour, otherwise, all the same. And then there are mine. Not all the way to the floor, but stopping at about groin height (well, my groin, anyway). Instead of two sliding windows either side in the longer lounge window, there are two double-hung windows with a fixed panel between. And in the other rooms, slender panels either side with a central double-hung. In a dark, slightly greenish grey, known as Woodland Grey. I mention this because this evening, as I was cooking dinner, a neighbour knocked on my door and asked if my windows were double-glazed (yep), and how much they cost (no idea - all part of the whole job my builder's doing). She said with all the windows in her house, it's cold. Yep, here too. I'm hoping that these new windows will make a bit of a difference.
I had to go out today and buy some paint. Turned out that I didn't have enough undercoat, and I had to buy exterior paint anyway because the cladding wasn't pre-painted so I have to do that too. Oh well. Bought a punnet of sage seedlings because I can't seem to be able to buy dried sage and I want sage for my pork meatballs.

I woke up very early this morning and lay in bed having a happy little muse, and trying to get back to sleep. Didn't happen. Eventually I got up just before dawn bothered. Glad I got up early today because just before 8, 6 blokes and a large chipper came by and took down the horrible street tree outside of my house. I'd been given various promises - such as they'd also poison the bits of it in my yard - but that was a furphy because apparently they aren't allowed to operate on private property and so I have to try to get rid of an invasive weed species myself. :thrown: The stump is still there but that will have to be got rid of so that it doesn't grow back and so there's a space for its replacement. Very noisy, though, that industrial chipper. They finally left around 8:40 and I could hear again around 9...

Just kicking back this afternoon when the sparkies arrived, and my brain said to me, oh yeah, remember? Wednesday afternoon, sparkies. So I was in my don't-go-out-in-these-jeans jeans and totally forgot as I turned my back on them. Oh well. The boys are coming back tomorrow to finish some other things up. I'll remember to wear the correct jeans!
Move the first bookshelf. The little one, only 40cm wide. Four boxes of books in the lounge room from that little shelf and it's making me a little apprehensive about the rest. I still have a 60cm, 80cm, 2 x 90cm, and a 120cm bookshelves to go (1.8 - 2m tall). That little one was heavy enough when I carted it out to the big shed. The others I was never going to carry out. I think I'll end up having to drag them out, except for the big one and I'll see if my builder will give me a hand with that one. When I got them in, I had someone to help carry them. Now... it's going to be interesting.

Realised I've been doing the Only Homemade Challenge incorrectly, as I've been eating shop-bought bread, and tomorrow I fully intend to scoff down as many shop-bought hot cross bun as is humanly possible. So my version is adapted to suit me - I must make dinner, and that's it. If for lunch I fancy a tin of herring in tomato sauce on bread, then so be it, but dinner - now that creature has to be something different!

I have dropped the push-up challenge that I'd only just started. Even though I kind of wanted to do it, it wasn't really calling to me, and I'm trying hard at the moment to work on getting other things really established. I've been doing pretty well with going to bed. I've not only gone to bed before 10:30 (and that was enough of a challenge already there!), but I've even gone to bed before 10 once or twice. And then got up early as a consequence. So I am going to focus on that.
The other focus is on the food. Primarily the dinner. Tonight I made chicken and mushroom risotto. The thing I love about making this is that I always end up with four meals' worth, so for another three days - no cooking! :welcome: But I want to get some sort of menu planned, whereby I can cook maybe four or five different dishes but have leftovers, and simply rotate through, and when I'm almost out, no thought, just make those dishes again. Risotto, peanut butter noddles, maybe something with air fryer chips, and something and something. This is truly going to be a Challenge for me so I don't want to waste any bandwidth on something that's not really calling me. This next month+ is going to be disruptive enough, but I figure if I can get through a disruptive month and achieve this, I can do the sameduring calm months.
The boys came again this morning, finished the sheeting. Plasterer due next Tuesday and will come back for the sanding a few days later. It would be nice if I can get the painting done before the floorer comes the following Monday. After that, it's simply a matter of my letting the floors cure for a month, splashing on the sealant and leaving it for a week, before returning all the furniture and getting my house back into order. If I can do that, and get to bed by ten AND cook/reheat and eat a decent dinner every night - I'm golden.

So yesterday was too frustrating. I don't let things frustrate me anymore, so I backed out and left it, figuring things would somehow get straightened out and I'd be able to get back on today. Anyway, this was yesterday then:

Come Alive
Power Grip Challenge Day 22
Counting Victories Challenge Day 22
GTBOT Challenge day 21
Easy Arms Challenge Day 18
Only Homemade (15 days) Day 6

Rehab:

- Side-lying hip abduction and march 2 x 10es
- Glute bridge 3 x 15
- Quad sets 3 x 10es
- Step-downs 2 x 10es
- TKE 3 x 15es

And then today:
First Thing Water
Come Alive
Power Grip Challenge Day 23
Counting Victories Challenge Day 23
GTBOT Challenge day 22
Easy Arms Challenge Day 19
Only Homemade (15 days) Day 7
Wall Sit Challenge Day 5

Rehab:
- Lying heel slides 2 x 10es
- Side-lying hip abduction and march 2 x 10es
- Glute bridge 3 x 15
- Quad sets 3 x 10es
- Step-downs 2 x 10es
- TKE 3 x 15es

Today was one of those quiet grey days I love so much. Once the sun rose (I'm guessing it did; there was no real proof), the light level remained exactly the same for the entire day and then suddenly it was dark. Loved it.
These hot cross bun are playing havoc with my macros! A mere two of them and I've had more than half my daily carbs! Worth it though.

Sometimes I wonder if I actually have a functioning brain. Like, Daylight Savings end the first Sunday in April. So that'd be next week then because it's not April yet even though I turned the calendar a few days ago... This morning I woke and groped for my watch which was on the floor beside the bed. Tried to orient it the right way and peered blearily at it. It seemed to say it was 6 o'clock. Okay, alarm goes in 15 minutes, I'll just mooch until then. But the alarm didn't ring. Suddenly it was half past and I thought this was odd. So I actually put on my glasses so I could see, and found out it was only 5:30, not 6:30. The cat came in for a cuddle, and I watched the sky beyond the window growing much lighter. Odd, it wasn't like that this time yesterday... It was only when I was getting dressed that I remembered that it was the first Sunday in April! Twit! And now it's black night at 6:30pm.

Grey all day yesterday, which was lovely, and it started and ended grey again today. But early this morning, the sun broke through, just briefly, and illuminated the hills opposite. No, they are not covered in yellow flowers - this was just the dawning sun. And a fitting metaphor for Easter Sunday. Behold, the Son/sun is risen!

Chilly day today, still grey, and even had a period of light rain that was rather nice. For the next few days, back to mid 20s, but towards the end of the week, the night-time temp is already dropping to 2. At least in April it's still likely to be positive and not negative!

Plasterers (finally) arrived this morning. They'll be back early tomorrow morning for the second coat, then again on Friday afternoon for the sanding. That doesn't leave me much (probably any) time to do painting before the floorer comes on Monday morning, given I'll be spending the weekend moving furniture and books. I moved out one of the 90cm bookshelves out this afternoon. It wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be, so that was a nice surprise. I'm refilling it with the books from its same-size neighbour so I don't have to try to find somewhere else to dump them.

My brain malfunctioned again. I thought the plasterer was coming at 8 this morning so I got up a bit earlier to get things done, and then wondered at 8:10 where he was. Checked my text. Oh, plasterer due 9 or 10 (he came at 10); it's the floorer who's coming at 8 (on Monday). Right. Anyway, plasterer only had to sand so he was all done and out by midday. That gave me the opportunity to dust the walls and ceiling and apply undercoat. I had just enough! *phew*. Tomorrow first thing I want to get the first coat on the ceilings. Then move some books and a couple more bookshelves (I moved another one out this afternoon and it's been mostly loaded up). There are thin strips of carpet still under the bookshelves so they'll have to come up and the strips of carpet tacks. By the time I've done that, I should be able to get the second coat on the ceilings. It would be lovely to get all the painting done before the floors but that's simply not possible. Getting the ceilings done is the major thing because that could potentially be more messy on the floor.

Most people over-estimate how much they can get done. Not me. I'm a total slacker so I always under-estimate how much I can get done. That means when I reach that bare minimum, I can have the satisfaction of knowing I did how much I said I would, and if I exceed it, then I bask in the glow of thinking how wonderful I am. And that happened today. This morning I did the first coat on the ceilings, and then decided to do the first coat on the walls too. Realised I didn't have enough paint to do a second coat so went out to the Hardware. On a sunny Sunday! Horrible. Anyway, got my paint. As I was out, did a bit of shopping too. It was lunchtime by the time that was all over so I had a break and a read before getting back to it. I shifted books. I shifted a couple of bookcases. I shifted books back into the bookcases. I repainted the ceilings. I repainted the walls. One small wall didn't get painted because that's going to be a different colour, and the coving and woodwork needs painting/repainting, but I simply ran out of time for that. Glad I got the ceilings all done, and most of the walls. Pulled up the final scraps of carpet and pried up the strips of carpet tacks. Only the big bookcase is left to move out. It'shigher than the doorframe so it can't be dragged out upright, but it's too wide to be tipped on a side. It has to be lain down and then pulled over onto its side. It's awkward for one person but my builder will give me a hand with it tomorrow. My mattress also has to be taken out; I'll do that in the morning. Feeling pretty knackered now.

So, you know how I said I tend to under-estimate myself? Well, I got up bright and early this morning, did my cardio, then moved what was left out into the lounge. This was my mattress (the dog is going to love sleeping in the same room as me for the next few nights!), and that large bookcase. Once everything was out of the room except for the bookcase, I considered things carefully, angled the unit, and lowered it to the floor. Not the brightest idea because once flat on the floor, it was really difficult for me to get my fingers under it again! But I did, and got it onto its side. Then I slid it out of the room on an old blanket. And here's where the first problem arose. There wasn't enough room for it to get out into the hallway. But if I kept moving it diagnoally into another room, just enough to get it out of this room, then straightened it up and got it out of the other room... Yep. That all worked and I got it into the lounge room under the window. Well, it's tall, even on its side, so it blocks the window a bit. When the builder got here at 8, he looked at it and asked me how I had done it. I'm glad I managed it by myself because that means I should be able to manage getting it back into the room by myself. The floorers were late, finally appearing at 9:30. They were done by midday, and I finally put some toes tentatively on the skimcoat some time after 3 when I finally went to the loo. In two days' time, it should be almost completely dry, so I'll just keep that door closed until then. And in a month's time, I'll seal it. Meantime, in a few days I'll get to painting the woodwork. Glad it's nearly all over. Again.

@AgileGrrl "Beautified"? I have grey concrete floors and paint all my walls shades of grey. Not sure you'd call that beautiful. Though my double-hung windows (woodland grey) do look rather attractive and my builder noted (a little morosely) that his didn't look like that.

The man coming to install the window screen was due between 7 and 7:30 so I got up a little earlier to get my morning exercise done before he arrived. He came pretty close to 7, discovered that the screens hadn't been fitted with their clips, took them away and said he'd be back some time in the afternoon. So I shifted the bookcase back under the window and shoved my mattress next to it again so I could move through my lounge. He came back around 12:30, so I quickly moved the mattress and bookcase again. He fitted the screens, telling me all the while how double-hung windows work, how he and his wife had bought an old place with wooden double-hung windows but they're all single-glazed and 3mm thick, but there are so many windows all abutting each other he can't afford to replace them with double-glazed and it's already got down to 11 degrees in his house... He was rather chatty. So now I have screens on my windows. Should keep out the mozzies.

Iron Arms Challenge Day 6

- Lying heel slides 2 x 10es
- Side-lying hip abduction and march 3 x 10es
- Glute bridge 3 x 15
- Quad sets 3 x 10es

- TKE 3 x 15es

I had to get another prescription for some drugs, so made an appoinment this morning. Imagine my surprise when the receptionist said the appointment was for 10:50 - only two hours away! This was a bit of a shock for me. Generally when I have to go out, I prepare my brain for it the day before so it knows what to expect. Now, the poor thing was just tossed into the deep end and told to swim. So I got to the clinic and waited 45 minutes beyond my appointment time. A tiny little girl came in with mother and looked at me and smiled. So I smiled back. And so it went for a while until I got bored and looked away to the other side - right in the eyes of a little boy in his stroller who was staring at me. Why can't these small humans stare at some other people, not me? And then a bloke in his wheelchair came along and parked near me and explained that he'd just had his flu shot and he was told to wait a bit to see if he was going to have a reaction. No idea why he thought I'd be interested, but there must have been something about the seat I was sitting in. Spent 5 minutes with the doctor, a different one. I didn't like the woman I'd seen last year, so went for a different doctor. I asked him for a new 'script, told him I want to get off the drugs, he told me what to do, and then I left. Went to the bank to make a large cash withdrawal to pay my builder.
Then off to a new feed store, since my usual one closed down last year. Halfway there, my GPS and audio had a hissy fit and stopped working. I had to find somewhere to pull over and turn off the car. When I started it up again, everything was okay. Odd. Got to the feed store, bought 80kg of feed - that should last the girls a while. Chatted with the woman serving, got her laughing.
Then off to the pharmacy and shops. Minimal interaction there. Did buy a pin for ANZAC day, though.
While I was waiting in the clinic, my poor old hairtie finally gave up the ghost and my locks sprang free. My hair is about down to my collarbones now, and it doesn't sit flat. Maybe that's why the children were staring... Finally, at the pharmacy I got a packet of hairties and pulled it all back again. I had forgotten how hot hair is, even on mild days.
So that was my day today. Tomorrow I might see about starting painting the outside of the house.

The sparky is supposed to come tomorrow at 7:30 so I'll get up a touch earlier to get stuff done first. He should be the last one, and this lot of renovation is over. Except for the painting and sealing, but that's on me.

The stump out on my frontage got ground down today. Knock on the door and a bloke told me what they was going to do. Added that the truck was full so they couldn't be taking the mulch. I said that was fine, just pile it up for me. He said that helped him out, I said it helped me out. Now there is a pile of mulch out the front, waiting for me to cart it around the back...

The sparkies came around 7:40 so that wasn't bad. All done now. The rest is up to me.

It's geting colder so I have to build a new henhouse because the big girls will not share with the pullets. But in order to put it where I need it, I have to remove the hodge-podge of a fence that blocks off the trees at the back. I succeeded in removing 2 of the ~14 90cm star pickets - not easy to do when you simply have to pull them out by hand and you've got clay soil. There are also about 9 120+cm pickets to remove. But when I was working to free a 80cm-wide section of rigid fencing, I stepped back into a bit of a hole, stumbled backward, tried to avoid the dog who seemed to think I was playing now, and landed on my bum. And there went my non-acute injury streak that I'd managed to maintain since late November 2023, because I'd just turned my foot. I iced it (need to get an ice pack. I had to use an old bag of frozen celery leaves) for about 40 minutes, then I had a hot shower (because I was a bit grotty and chilled). My old fisiocrem had, curiously enough, turned completely liquid, but I smeared some on my foot anyway and then bounded it up. It's not too bad. There's not visible bruising yet after about 5 hours, and I normally bruise well, so that's probably a good sign. It's stiff and a bit sore - the calf raises today were not a good thing, but I mostly did them on one foot, and same with the plank - but I can walk on it without much worry. Given my issues, though, regardless of how it feels tomorrow, it will have to stay strapped for at least that day, just to give it that extra support. So I don't think I'll be going out and hauling up any star pickets tomorrow. That's okay, though - I have lots of painting to do.

Iron Arms Challenge Day 10 - this is getting... ouch.
Chest press 3 x 10
Shoulder press 3 x 10
Triceps kickbacks 3 x 10 (I had intended to do extensions but apparently didn't tell myself)

Rehab:
- Lying heel slides 2 x 10es
- Side-lying hip abduction and march 3 x 10es
- Glute bridge 3 x 15
- Quad sets 3 x 10es
- Step-downs 2 x 10es
- TKE 3 x 15es

Was a bit loath to get out of bed this morning and try the foot but it was much better. No visible bruising, no noticeable swelling. I kept it strapped and after a few hours I found I no longer had to do even the tiniest limp, though I was careful and probably walked more on the inside of my foot than the outside.

Beautiful, sunny day. I painted the new planking under my new windows. Of course, I'd opted for the textured, overlapping planks so that made the painting a little more tedious. The paint was as thick as honey, the sun was hot, and I was having a great time slapping this stuff on. I need to get some tape over the bricks so I can paint the thin strip of quad at the bottom of the planks so that's a job for tomorrow. As is the second coat. It looks good.

Another glorious day. I got out this morning and put the second coat on. Not quite as much fun as the first coat, but in a way easier because I couldn't see all the bits of white undercoat showing through. One more coat tomorrow because this is external, then I need to get started on inside. Tomorrow is two weeks since the floors were skim-coated. Another two weeks and I can seal them. Another week after that and I can start moving furniture back. Looking forward to that!

Guardian Challenge I've decided to drop this challenge. Of course I don't mind when the requirements of a challenge increase, but I didn't want to spend 15 minutes of my day doing march steps. True, today it would have been only 9 minutes (plus two minutes rest), but given the challenge started at only 5 minutes total and increases to 17 minutes - well, for me that's too long for a challenge. I should have claimed it the first time I did it. Oh well.

Got the third coat on the planks this morning. All looks good. Then I got a headache - the sort that makes the teeth on one side of your head ache. That kind of demotivated me today. I did, however, cook. I made my chicken mince and egg traybake which should give me four lunches, and the same thing for dinner that I've been having for the previous four nights. It's easy, tasty, relatively healthy, and sustainable. Lunch for the next four days has been taken care of. Today was the last portion of my "swine-herder's pie". Shepherd's pie is cottage pie but made with what shepherds hang around with. A few days ago, I made cottage pie but with pork mince and bacon, so I figure that must make it "swine-herder's". I'm rather pleased with my meals at the moment. That I'm having proper meals, I mean. Breakfast is locked in, lunch varies slightly, probably swinging from swine-herder's pie to traybake and back, and dinner is the same four components on repeat. This food stuff is harder than it sounds.
