Hi, I’m a 54 years old female struggling to reduce weight and being healthy. My current weight is 65 kg and three years before it was 54 kg. I’m trying to reduce weight back 54 kg or lesser than that. I have a high cholesterol. Doctors advised me to reduce weight. I have reduced calorie intake and 60 minutes walking everyday but no results. Could you please help me with proper diet and workout plan. Thank you

Hello and welcome .
It seems that you did not reduce calories , you do not have a calories deficit, since your weight is the same.
Maybe to ask a professional for this. A nutritionist.
It is good to do walking and maybe to ask first a doctor if you can do weight lifting
Also you can do taichi with a professional or at home , search for “shibashi” at YouTube.

Hi and welcome, you are not old, you are in your midlife. Your weight may be ok depending of your size, it is more important to act on cholesterol than on your weight loss, even if it is hard to see our body changing, your health depends on that. you should avoid processed foods, and maybe you could adopt a mediteranean diet, if it suits to you ? if you are vegetarian or vegan (or even if you are not) you should have a look at Darebeets it is down today, but it could help you

Hi Latha, and welcome. I'm in my 50s and had been diagnosed with high cholesterol, too. I was unable to take meds for this, as I got severe muscle pain as a side effect. My doctor sent me information about dietary lifestyle changes and activity level changes. I'm already active, but also overweight - or was a couple years ago.

Highlights from the info I got from my doctor:

1. Saturated fat is bad for you. Eat as little as you can. Read labels to get an idea how much you've been consuming.
2. Trans fats are also bad. Do your best to eliminate them, if possible.
3. Mono-unsaturated fats like what you'll find in peanut butter or olive oil is good for you. The reduce LDL cholesterol (the bad stuff) and boost HDL cholesterol (the good stuff)
4. Poly-unsaturated fats are also good.
5. Fiber is very good for you and not just for reducing cholesterol.
6. Fresh vegetables are great, and cooking for yourself as much as possible.

If your doctor has something like this, request it. It will probably repeat a lot of this and go into a lot more detail.

My issue was working second shift and eating a lot of sugary snacks late at night. That was the first thing I did. Commercially-produced baked goods have so much saturated fats and extra sugar and it's so easy to eat just one more. No really. Just one. That's it. Hey, did I just finish off an entire package of Oreos? The ones I just bought this morning?

Also, start slowly. You want a sustainable habit and frankly, there are so many recipes out there (not just at Darebeets, even for dedicated carnivores like me - go for leaner meats, because you're going to get a lot of saturated fat especially in red meat.) I swear by the Mediterranean Dish that has a ton of healthy recipes that make adjusting to a lifestyle change eating plan easier than saying to yourself - nope, can't have that. It's more - "Hey! Look at this awesome kabob recipe I haven't tried yet! Perfect weather for grilling!"

There's good news. I'm down 30 pounds without depriving myself and by making sure I eat when I'm hungry. More meals, but smaller portion sizes. Cooking in batches and putting away portions for later instead of eating it all at once, knowing I can reheat it later was a game changer. Getting rid of sugary snacks late at night was the big one. My waistline shrunk.

Good luck! Enjoy all of the new recipes that are waiting to be discovered! My numbers vastly improved and it's only been about a year and a half. Start slowly and go easy on yourself. Habits are hard to change, but it is possible.
