Thank you everyone! I did some looking up and talked to my nurse friends, and the way I got hit, there's not much that could be done. I'm not even showing much bruising, definitely no disfiguration, so even if it is broken, the most that would be done would be pain management. That I can do on my own as regular Advil and Tylenol are working. :makeway:

Tuesday I knew I was taking it easy, but I took the lovely (if smokey) weather to go for a hike in the natural area across from my work during my lunch. We've been covered with high level smoke from the fires in the prairies, so I took it easy, but it was nice to get out for a bit. :excited:

:star: 30 minute hike
:star: Steps 4271

Yesterday my workout was based around work. We had a work lunch that involved running out and getting groceries and a bit of heavy lifting with getting things setup. Still taking it easy, but using my great big arm muscles. Biggie wasn't feeling great last night and needed some extra cuddles for bedtime, and Munchie decided she needed to be carried up to bed, so I rounded my workout with kiddo weighted walking. :flex:

I made a bit of a breakthrough recently with how I look at Darebee challenges and such. I used to be all about: if I don't do it all in one exact calendar month, if I miss a day, if I didn't do a full on structured workout it doesn't count!!!! I've since realized, I make the rules, I set the standards, and if I end up body checking some picnic tables onto a patio and lugging around a deadweight sick child for half an hour, both of which aren't currently my normal amount of activity, those can count as a workout, my streak isn't for "structured specific workout time" it is for over and above activity that I wouldn't normally do. The liberty of being able to look at program and challenge gaps as pauses rather than failures (so long as they're only a week or two at most, because more than that I'd make myself start over just for the physical benefit) has really helped change my perspective on working out and lightened the burden I would put on myself of 'having' to do a specific workout because I decided to do these challenges.

:star: General extra heavy lifting of picnic tables and kids throughout the day

Today it's raining, so I'll not be having a hike, but I am intending on getting back into the gym. I'll be working on getting my May challenges closer to done, since they're ab stuff and shouldn't affect my nose too much. It hurts the most when I'm doing a lot of bending forward, like bath time, and when I roll over from side to side at night. I think this may be because I have seasonal allergies and I just came off of a cold and may have a bit of fluid moving through my sinuses causing pressure on the injury, so I'm trying to avoid floor exercises right now. :crawl:

That being said, I really want to get Day 18 done of Spellbound, and Invisibility involves some planks, so I'll see how I'm feeling at the gym tonight and maybe give it a go slowly and take breaks if I need it. :twirl:

I heard again about the fires in Canada, I hope you are not too much impacted, and are safe. Thanks for (good or bad ??) news for your nose. And congrats for your reflections on your way to consider your relation to challenges, program, etc, and it is obvious you already have a lot in your plate without pression of this kind. We talk about mental load here, and a mother of 2 as you are already have a lot. take care

Thank you! The fires are quite a ways away, I'm in Southern Ontario, pretty much exactly in the middle of all the Great Lakes, these fires are kind of on the border of Northern Ontario and Manitoba, but the air currents are blowing the smoke our way and that affecting our air and, in some ways, our weather. This video kind of shows how the smoke is traveling and moving, it's from NOAA Satellites official page

As I explained to Munchie earlier in the week, in order for us to reach the fires, we'd have to hop in the car and drive 120 km/h with no stopping for over a day, so fire wise we're safe, we just need to be careful about being outside in the smoke too much.

Gotta love family drama... I didn't make it to the gym due to MIL and Hubby getting into it and needing to watch the kids, but I kept them from being pulled into the fray and other than explaining that Daddy's feelings got hurt, they didn't even really notice.

Luckily I had done some challenge days at my desk to keep me going. Work stress is piling up now that we are being expected to fully switch over to head office standards. It's fine for me, I'm good to go, but I'm dealing with pushback from coworkers who are dealing with change and the struggles that come along with it.

Anyway

It stinks outside with the smoke, but I'm probably going to take Biggie for a bit of a walk, just to get his wiggles out. It's a big work weekend for Hubby, so Munchie is going to be at Gramma's all weekend and Biggie and I will be chilling.

So just noting in here that there was absolutely NO WAY I was taking Biggie out in this air. Toronto had the WORST air quality in the world today, it's only an hour away from us, and the smoke was smoking. Everything had a brown/grey haze, and just.. yeah. I was not going to put him through that, especially since his daycare had him outside playing like normal.

The poor guy's been hacking and coughing since we got home. I gave him some cough syrup to try and help any scratchiness, but he's still woken up a couple of times. So I'll be basically locking us in the house tomorrow to try and let his little lungs clear out.

Was that only a weekend? Because I feel like I've been gone a week or more. :crawl:

This weekend was jam packed, with good and bad.

So as I ended Friday off (or rather very early Saturday) I did not take Biggie out for a walk as it was just nasty outside. I had to grab a picture because the world was such a weird colour due to the smoke.

IMG_3187.png

Munchie was over at her Gramma's for a weekend sleep over, I grabbed Biggie from the parking lot behind Hubby's work where we switched cars, and he and I went home to chill. He'd already eaten so it was just me to worry about for food. We had a decent night, I got some extra Biggie carrying as he was a bit of a suck (I think his top 2 year molars are bugging him and we're thinking both kids might have seasonal allergies). He was up and down a fair bit until I went to bed. I stayed up thinking Hubby was going to be home at a somewhat decent hour, but I was mistaken... 2:30 and I finally got to sleep. :sadness:

:star: Core Control day 27

Saturday we woke up to clear air! It wasn't supposed to clear up but the winds favoured us and I wasn't going to question it. Hubby headed off to work, Biggie wasn't super interested in his breakfast, so I decided we were going to head out for a hike on a nice flat trail near us that used to be a railway line. If there's one thing that is just Biggie's jam, it's being outside, playing with rocks, leaves, and flowers. I have started bringing the stroller along even when I know he's not going to sit in it because it's a place to put his treasures. In this case, he kept grabbing it and pulling me after him as he was moving to the next dig spot. We did about a kilometre and a half on this walk before heading home for lunch and nap. A nap that didn't happen because he was too wound up and thought it was hilarious to keep moving around and changing positions.

IMG_3191.png

Gramma and Munchie called and invited us over after Biggie's nap to play with the water table (in reality, I'm pretty sure MIL wanted to enjoy the day and have a drink, but she's not one to drink alone and I'm decent company, I wasn't there 2 minutes and was offering me a cooler...)

IMG_3194.png

The kids had a blast and got soaked, the afternoon was lovely, and Biggie and I headed off to visit Hubby quickly and bring him a tea. Biggie finally crashed in the car, so I did a bit of a long drive to give him a decent nap.

Once we got home, I changed Biggie's clothes, his spare set in his daycare bag were long pants and shirt, so I got him into shorts and t-shirt. Just before I got his shirt on, he delivered his own karma by being silly on his bed and cracking the bridge of his nose off the headboard. He got himself worse than he got me because he had a full on nosebleed out of both nostrils, and bit his tongue. Two minutes afterwards he'd stopped crying and was ready to play again, but the nosebleed hadn't stopped so I basically had to hold him sitting up while trying to pinch his nostrils closed and telling him to breath through his mouth. He was not impressed because he thought he was fine! :whaa:

Blood was everywhere on his face, on me, on the couch, and the floor... but yeah, he was fine. He wanted to get up and dance! He kept rolling around and bopping his nose starting a small bleed again and again. So I got him in the bath to contain him and slow him down. And to wipe the blood off of him so he didn't look so bad. I then got him in jammies, got him a snack, some pain and antihistamine meds, and started to settle down for bedtime. :cantcope:

Of course, it took a while because he'd had a late nap, but eventually he got sorted and crashed. He ended up sleeping through the night. He was so sleeping that I opened the door a couple of times just to make sure he was breathing/snoring because that just isn't like him and Mommy Terror was giving me all sorts of bad scenarios. :dizzy:

Sunday we woke up slowly, Biggie and I had breakfast, Hubby headed off to work again, and Biggie and I headed off to church. Gramma was originally going to have me grab Munchie on the way to church but her plans fell through and she kept her a little longer. A fact that Munchie was NOT best pleased with as she really loves the kids in her Sunday School class. :expecting:

I got there a little early and ended up wandering around a bit with Biggie on my hip. I went to get a tea and as I poured the milk in, my cup tipped over and I hurried to grab some paper towel to clean up. As I did a lovely older man (with a walker and unable to really help me) leaned over, looked at me and Biggie and said "Only a woman can do what you do!" which made me smile.

My brain was in a much better place for church this week, but I couldn't focus on the actual sermon because I was having a breakthrough about something else and doing my own mental digging through the Bible.

I had seen a fictional book on Netgalley about a situation where it is proven that Jesus was in a relationship with Lazarus and the fall out that would come from that and it got me thinking. There's a lot of discussion about why Jesus wasn't married in a society where a 30 year old man needed to be married to be taken seriously. The breakthrough was that he couldn't be married because he was God, or at least a part of him was and God is father to all humans, also Jesus says repeatedly that he is groom to the church therefore, he couldn't be married to a single human because he's married to all of the church. Which then got me thinkin about the 3 most important people in a person's life: A parent, a spouse, ourselves, which is basically the trinity. God who's our Father, Jesus who's our spouse, and the Holy Spirit which is that little bit of God in us. Anyway, that fully distracted me but I think it was a pretty good rabbit hole to travel down.

After church, we went and picked up Munchie, who was apparently done with Gramma's and ready to come home for lunch, except that she JUST wanted to come home for lunch and then head back to Gramma's to play. I told her that wasn't how things worked but that we could play in our backyard. Gramma gave us some freeze pops for the afternoon. :hehehe:

Munchie wasn't feeling 100% so when we got home she laid down on the couch while I got Biggie some lunch. He ate about half of it and Munchie ate the rest, but turned from toast into a sandwich. Biggie went down pretty easily for his nap, and Munchie had a bit of screen time and I did some work on my MASSIVE project for LibriVox (I have to get all of the parts put in for each chapter, 45 chapters, 40ish characters, plus the full chapters once completed... and the website is getting bot swarmed again so it's taking forever....) :stubby:

Munchie played a bit, found the library app and read a couple of books, before heading back into her games. I'm so impressed that she chooses to read on her own! :hooray:

Once Biggie woke up we went outside for our freeze pops and patio colouring, and we had a visitor in our Lilacs.
IMG_3213.pngbutterfly.pngIMG_3220.png

This is a Common Black Swallowtail and it was BIG. The kids were enthralled and watched him for a good 5-10 minutes before he flew off. Munchie's been learning about insects in class and was telling us all about how the butterfly was eating the nectar in the flowers, and having such a good lunch! :cute:

We finished our freeze pops, got sufficiently sticky, and then I took the kids in for a glow-stick bath. This time I turned the jets on and put bubble bath in and it made things SO. MUCH. BETTER!!! :dancy:

However I did notice that a number of the jets weren't working which probably means they're plugged, so I'm going to have to figure out how to fix that. These are air jets, not a jacuzzi so I can't just run some cleaner through it and hope for the best. :littletail:

After the bath we had a bit of quiet play time while I tried to figure out what I was going to do for supper. I had just finally got the kitchen caught up and I wasn't looking forward to making another mess, so I decided to take the kids out to a big people restaurant. I told Munchie that she had to sit and behave while we were there or we would go home, and I had her look at the menu and pick what she wanted before we went.

There's a lovely little gluten free taco restaurant in our 'downtown' area (we live in a city that used to be 4 towns, so we have 4 separate historical downtowns, just to.. you know.. be confusing) and they close off part of the street every summer for patio season. While I was getting the kids out of the car, I had Munchie sitting in the open trunk and was putting Biggie in the stroller, when Munchie started hollering. Some of her classmates were walking by! She has a set of triplets and a set of twins in her class, and these were the triplets, their mom and older sister. The girls all chatted, and the Mom and I did too. She commented on how tall Biggie was and I pulled him out to stand him beside the 6 year old triplets... he's taller than 2 of them. Then we said our goodbyes and headed off to the restaurant. :amused:

The kids got their first experience of eating on a patio and they loved it! I got them cheeseburger like quesadillas so that it wasn't too foreign, but also grabbed one taco for them to try. Biggie wasn't having it, he ate ALL the fries before even trying his cheeseburger thing, but ultimately ate well. Munchie, however, spent the time from sitting down (I brought colouring for while we waited and it worked perfectly) to when the food came out proclaiming that she didn't like tacos at all and didn't want it. I told her that was fine, I was just getting it for her to try. Once it came out, I gave her a bite, and she devoured the whole thing. :pizza:

She ate half of her cheeseburger thing, and stole some of my loaded fries. This is fantastic, because it means next time we can go and just get her a taco and some of my fries, and give Biggie the cheeseburger meal, and it's actually kind of comparable in cost to if we got them Happy Meals. :clapclap:

As we were coming to the end of the meal, Munchie said her tummy was bugging her a bit (she was most likely full). I asked for the bill and then told Munchie to say thank you when the waitress came back. She looked at me and said "Mommy, my tummy hurts so I'm not available for thank yous right now." :giggle:

She and Biggie both said thank you so all was well.

Then, since Munchie hadn't seen Hubby all weekend, we took him some food and had a short chat before heading home and getting ready for bed. Munchie got to go downstairs for some tv time. Biggie took a little bit to get settled but he was fine. He woke up once but just needed a bit of a Mommy cuddle in his room before going back to sleep. (Hearing a sleepy 2 year old call out "wheh awe huuuu??" (where are you) just to make sure he's not alone is both heart pulling and adorable.) I stayed up way too late waiting for Hubby who was supposed be done at 10:30, but the tournament ran long and he didn't get home till nearly 2. :smash:

It is amazing the effect of a good workout has on my body. I feel accomplished and strong, just from breaking myself down to a puddle of sweat last night! :flex:

Since we went to the patio for dinner Sunday, I didn't have any leftovers to take for lunch, so I went and got some Pho. It's nice to finally have a car with a one hour lunch, because I can go and sit and eat a meal once in a while instead of just being bored waiting for my time to finish up. :eatall:

Last night was pretty standard. Kids had dinner, baths, and into bed. Munchie was apparently up and down most of the night with a cough, so we're keeping an eye on that. :hereforyou:

Once bedtime routine was done I ran out to the gym and FINALLY got day 18 of Spellbound done. :gotthis:

One big bit of progress: The first time I had to do Invisibility in this program, I couldn't maintain the planks for all of the sets and eventually dropped my knees. This time I was almost done when I realized I didn't need to use the adjustment! Hooray!

I finished my book, a cozy romantasy that had just enough tension and poor decisions to keep the plot moving but had a sweet ending. The book was Homegrown Magic by Jamie Pacton and Rebecca Podos, I read it as part of one of Goodreads' quarterly challenges. It isn't one I'd normally gravitate to, but I really enjoyed it and I'm putting some of their other books on my TBR list. :scroll:

Anyways, feeling good today, now to dive headfirst into my work pile. :chat:

Ok, whew, that was a couple of days. I usually update my check in post at work during a bit of down time, and suddenly, I didn't really have downtime!!! :chat:

It's good though, I'm figuring things out, just busy. A new replacement for my coworker is getting an offer today, they'll be starting in 10 days if they accept it so yay! :gotthis:

So, Tuesday Munchie had a Gramma sleepover, she'd been up and down all night with a bit of a cough, and with Biggie being a bit noisy. She ended up on the couch, but was all told ok. Hubby had to help out at the hobby store on Wednesday so Gramma taking Munchie allowed him to get a good night's sleep. :night:

She went over after bath time, so we had dinner and some play time, then popped her in the bath where we read our chapter of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As Munchie gets older and we're starting to get into some of the books I read as a kid, it's been really fun seeing them through her eyes. I did modify some words, as they're ones I'd rather she didn't learn in the way they're used in the book. Different times and different standards, still a fun book. :applause:

Then we dried her hair and off she went as I got some stuff ready for Biggie to head to bed.

Once Hubby got back, I ran to the gym.

:star: 10 Minute Treadmill

I decided to try to see where my elbow plank was, but by the time I did I was wiped so I only made it 1 minute. Still, I think the fact that I made it a full 60 seconds, especially with how tender I was feeling after the planks the night before. :crawl:

Still pretty pleased with getting that done.

Wednesday

Work got super busy, because this new responsibility was very new to me, I had to learn how to do it, in addition to the fact that we're transitioning to a new format to get in line with our head office's format. It's been a bit rough, so I put my head down and got stuff done. :pmode:

When I got home, Munchie was not well. She had a major cough, red runny eyes, and a low grade fever. Initially (and all night) we thought she was ill and treated her as such. Bath, Vicks, Tylenol, Stodal... and even put the TV in her room to help distract her from the cough and get her sleep. With her not feeling well I decided to stay home and just do some stretching and light yoga due to feeling stiff and wanting to keep an eye on her. :emergency:

Hubby had to run out and deal with an issue at the store (drama drama drama for the store owner and Hubby is being supportive and being compensated for time spent with the supporting), so it was a good thing I hadn't gone to the gym. Munchie was up and down, and at one point half woke up to complain that I'd turned off the video game she'd been watching and put on quiet music, then wanted another application of Vicks before dropping off again. :roadkill:

Thursday

Munchie woke up and we honestly thought she would be staying home but she pitched an absolute FIT that she was FINE and she wanted to go to school! So we told her if she got up and got her morning routine done in time she could go to school. It took her a bit longer than usual but she did it. :ragdoll:

Once Hubby got her to school, he talked to the teacher about how Munchie was feeling, and the teacher reminded him about the petting zoo that had come in the day before. We're still waiting on Munchie's allergy test, but this points even more to her having some. The most likely culprit is the goat as both Gramma and Hubby are allergic to mohair, but at least we knew that it wasn't another round of School Plague. Last night she did really well, a little bit of a cough still, so she had the TV again, but not nearly how she'd be if she was actually sick.

Neither kid was interested in eating, even with us trying a few times over the evening to get them to eat. Not sure if they'd snacked too much during the afternoon, or were just too excited and wanting to run around instead of eating. We got enough in that the didn't wake up due to hunger and then they had good breakfasts but it was just really weird. :littletail:

Last night was really crazy, so I stuck at home and did some more stretching and Yoga. I'll be finishing out my two challenges today so I'll pop those badges up on Monday when I check in.

The weekend is a busy one again, though I'm a bit bummed that the present I've got coming for Hubby for father's day won't get here in time, but I'm sure he'll enjoy it once it does arrive. :hop:

I need to post somewhere because I'm super excited.

:gotthis::gotthis:Hubby has an interview on Tuesday for a job just around the corner from where I work!!!! :gotthis::gotthis:

If he gets this, he'd be working M-F Days, we'd be able to commute together (Which would cut into my book listening time but give me more hubby time), and I've already talked with my work and the 10 minutes I'd come in later than my technical star time is fine. (We'd have to drop Biggie off at daycare which doesn't open until 7:30 so I'd be just a smidge late).

It's manufacturing, but he's done that before and could still get out in the evenings and weekends to visit with his friends. It's decent pay too.

So here's hoping it all goes well!!!

Hello and welcome back to the much delayed check-in thread. Oy I've been busy. :roadkill:

Friday, I did the last day of the challenges to get my badges, and then went home for child chasing. :rush:

Munchie was having a full blown allergy attack, not doctor worthy, but worrying. As I've said before, she has been referred to an allergist, but we're waiting for that appointment. We're pretty sure animals are on the list (though I'm doubting cats as she's not having this kind of reaction on the daily). It took a bit over the weekend for Hubby and I to piece things together, but Monday she was playing with, and was licked by, a dog. That night she had a cough start up. She stayed over at Gramma's Tuesday night and everything calmed down. Oh Wednesday she came home with a bad cough and runny eyes, we treated it as a cold, and it wasn't until the next day that her teacher mentioned they'd had a petting zoo the day before that we went 'oh, allergies'. Things calmed down on Thursday, then on Friday she had a PD day and spent time with Gramma, Gramma's friend, and friend's dog. That night it was hives all over her face and on her arms that moved down to her legs over night. :teary:

It all cleared up within 12 hours, so after a call to the doctor we're just supposed to monitor and document for now.

In an effort to slow the reaction, I tossed both kids in the bath to wipe off anything that may be on them (if Biggie had dog fluffs on him it could transfer to Munchie during play). Then it was jammies and bedtime and they both did great.

:star: Core Control Day 30 :completed:
:star: Easy Abs Day 30 :completed:
:star: Steps 2627
:star: Streak 69

Saturday we woke up to no hives, no cough, and no focus. Hubby did a drive to TO to visit a friend who just finished the "Take to the Streets" challenge, which is where joggers are challenged to run every street in the city. The kids were super distracted and just getting at each other. I eventually said "OK BRUNCH!" and off to our lovely Mexican restaurant that also does brunch on the patio. :watermelon:

As we parked, Munchie got very excited because "They're setting up an event Mommy!!" And that's how we accidentally went to our small town's Pride. First we stopped off at our little indie bookstore where I grabbed the first two books of Legends & Lattes. The kids each got a book, and then we headed for breakfast. I explained, in a 5 year old friendly way, what Pride was about (Celebrating different family's ways of loving) with the help of some Blue's Clues videos. She was very excited and wanted to check everything out, but it was just being setup, so I convinced her to go eat first. I did a quick Biggie diaper change, and in the process pinched the inside of his elbow pretty badly with the stroller, something he has NOT let me forget about since. :cantcope:

The kids weren't as well behaved as they were the last time we went, but I think it was because we were getting close to Biggie's nap time. They did devour the gluten free pancakes though (they are so good, and if it wasn't a 100% gluten free kitchen, I would have been worried they gave us the wrong ones). :eatall:

Then we wandered around the various booths, the kids each got a fidget toy and a sticker, and we hopped in the car to take Hubby a tea. :kcoffee:

It was very much a drop and go, and both kids passed out, so I did a long drive to make sure Biggie at least had an hour long nap. :softz:

Both kids were quite displeased that we were home once we got there, but understood when I explained it was too hot out and we would wait for it to cool down. We played games in the house, and I did some Biggie/Munchie bicep curls, and danced around with them in my arms. :celeb:

Biggest news though was that Biggie is starting to get the potty training thing. He's started running to the chest that has his pullups, grabbing one and changing himself. Sometimes he's already gone and lets me help him get back into pullup/pants right away, but sometimes he gets pants/pullup off and won't put the new one on, which signals that he needs to go. I grab his little potty and he does his thing! 2 times in the potty by himself!! Go little man! :yas:

I went to the gym after bedtime, but just did a treadmill walk and then used the massage chair. I was pretty tired after being out all morning.

Sunday was Father's day and the kids and I let Hubby sleep in. They only lasted so long though, as Munchie had a gift to give him and Biggie wanted to give him the card from both of them. The gift I ordered for him hadn't been shipped yet but should get here later this week.

After Hubby woke up a bit, we got dressed and hopped in the car for DQ ice cream (I got the Dilly Bar and reminisced on the days I could enjoy Blizzards). Biggie went for his nap, and we drove on to head towards Hubby's dad. He wasn't feeling the greatest (he's in treatment for cancer) so we continued on and went to visit my Mom and Step-father, who've just recently returned from a Viking cruise in Europe. :tuzki-love:

We had a lovely visit, the kids got to run around, and after about 45 minutes we headed home.

The kids had some screen time, Munchie playing Palia on my computer and Biggie rocking some toddler games on my phone, while Hubby and I did some chores. :scroll:

Tossed the kids through a bath and started Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator with Munchie. Then took the night off to relax as I was feeling quite worn down, though I'm not sure why. Perhaps due to the time of the month, who knows.

Decided to read book 1 of Munchie's book series: The Last Firehawk, just so I can keep up with what she's reading and can chat/geek out with her about it. It's actually a really good story, and I'm excited to go through it.

Yesterday was mostly a ball of work stress, lots of things happening with formats changing and people used to being able to submit stuff a half hour before it's due, which is NOT happening anymore.

Got home, had dinner, took the kids outside in the backyard. Hubby did some weed pulling, while I helped the kids climb up the slide on their playground, and they jumped off. Easily 15 minutes of that, and my shoulders and hips are feeling it. :trail:

Took another night off after that workout, and got some LibriVox editing done. :chat:

Tonight I'm probably going to run to the gym after the kids are in bed. Have some more Spellbound to finish out. I'm determined to get that badge too.

Thank you so much for the badge cheers! It means so much that this community is so supportive! :tuzki-love:

Last night was prepping for Munchie's big day today. She graduated SK! When did that tiny little gnome who was laying on my chest under a UV light become so big?! :sadness:

Yes, many tears were held back today, and one teacher got fake smiles because I was in a Christian Private school surrounded by 5 year olds and it wouldn't have been appropriate to say what I really thought when she made a point of coming up to me and telling me how wonderful Munchie was in her class.... :tuzki-stub:

ANYWAY!

Munchie crashed last night and it took everything to get her to wake up and eat, but once she did we got things done. We read a few short books last night instead of a chapter of Charlie, and she practiced her memory verse before bedtime.

I made it to the gym, and boy are my arms feeling my workout.

Will give full update later, but just need to say: 2 Kids + hubby + MLB Baseball game kids day + HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR = utter exhausted family who did not want to get up and going.

I made it into work, I am CHUGGING coffee... everything hurts, and I did over 15K steps yesterday.

:roadkill::crawl:

Who let that bus run us all over.

We had big fun though.

Ok, now that I have a few minutes let's get this updated. I'm so far behind, but that's what happens when you're working hard. The good news is, the vacant role has been filled and the new employee started today, so we just need to wait for training to be done and things will even out again. :gotthis:

So Wednesday was Daddy's night out. It was me and the kids, dancing and running around. I did some stretching, and some kiddo bicep curls, which are quickly getting more difficult as they grow. :flex:

Thursday I made it to the gym, I'd had a stressful day at work and, as I told Hubby, I needed to beat something up, even if it was me! :pow:

Munchie had a crash day on Thursday, she barely touched her supper, and slept basically the whole evening and night. So it was decided that for her last day of school I'd get her up early and we'd go for breakfast. I got her up at 6:15 and gave her a bath, then took her to McD's for pancakes. She ate 2 and some of her hashbrown and was a happy girl at school. :cheeks:

Friday was a round or two of "Keep the two year old from injuring his sister" including grabbing him in mid air as he was about to jump knees first on her. I don't know why Biggie thinks it's funny to kick during diaper changes now, but he got me in the throat/collar bone. I made a noise of pain, which got Munchie's attention. She came running over as I held my throat and coughed, a cough she thought was me about to vomit, which sent her RIGHT into a panic. She started sobbing, while leaning on my back, I managed to get Biggie's diaper done, and then tried to take stock of myself. :shakez:

He thought it was a good idea to keep kicking and hitting us once he stood up, so I showed him it was NOT one. He ended up held face down on the floor (gently), while I proceeded to calm Munchie down. Once Munchie was settled, and I'd made sure my throat was ok, I had a chat with him (still face down) and explained that if he could not play nicely, he would be held in a way that kept everyone safe. He was much better after that, and we ended up doing a bubble bath in the jet tub, which calmed things down. :yellz:

Munchie went to sleep downstairs, Biggie was out soon after her, and I was finally able to examine my nice bruise.

Saturday was going to be quite warm with storms in the afternoon, and I knew I wanted to get the kids outside. Sunday was going to be insane, so I didn't want to do anything too crazy, but also didn't want them cooped up in the house too much. So we had breakfast, and then went out to the local splash pad. :glee:

IMG_3328.png

It took Biggie a bit to really get into it, but all of us were completely soaked by the time we were done, and we'd brought a change of clothes so we were able to be nice and dry for going to lunch at Tim's. Both kids ate quite well (thank goodness), then we went home and something exciting happened. I was getting Munchie setup with something, and heard Biggie doing something behind me, looked over my shoulder and he'd grabbed his potty and was going by himself. AMAZING! :moves:

Our afternoon was chill, there was screen time (Munchie is absolutely killing it in Palia, she's doing things I haven't had a chance to do yet!) both kids found colouring apps, one on the phone and one on my laptop, and they were comparing pictures and being very supportive. It was super cute. :lovely:

We had an easy night too, and the kids were both excited about Sunday. I ran out to the gym and just relaxed this time. I did a stretch set and then enjoyed the massage chairs, preparing for Sunday.

:star: Stretching and light yoga

:star: Streak 77

Sunday, we got up like normal, but got dressed and ready to head out for our hour long drive. We thought at least one kid would crash, but they both stayed up. I was so thankful I had made an activity bag. Both kids passed the Leap Pad reading toy back and forth, Munchie learned to play Twinkle Twinkle on it, then they coloured in their colouring books. Biggie did pass out 5 minutes before we got to the subway station, but of course woke up when we put him in the stroller. :excited:

We met up with my cousin, and hopped on the subway. This was Munchie's favourite part. She'd been talking about going on the subway for WEEKS and she was so happy when it finally happened. Hubby and I had to carry the stroller up and down the stairs a number of times because it was just easier than waiting for the elevator. (Mommy strong!!) :super:

It was SO hot. The hottest day of the year so far. The outdoor events for the Jr. Jays were closed early due to it. Luckily the Rogers Centre had the dome closed and the AC pumping or we would have all melted. The game was fun, the kids enjoyed the events they had for Jr. Jays, and LOVED running the bases at the end. :celeb:

We got hotdogs after the game, and hopped the subway back up to the car, Biggie slept most of the way in the stroller (He basically missed his nap), and Munchie was starting to get a bit out of it. Once we got to our station Hubby and cousin dashed for the car because the parking lot was going to close soon, then they took the wrong exit and Hubby had to go up to a highway exit to turn around and come back, which meant that the kids and I had to walk around the mall we were at to get to the front lobby where the cinema was to wait in the AC, but we did it.

On the way home, Munchie crashed immediately. Biggie had woken up, and was chilling. We were about a third of the way home and he started stressing, he pointed to our emergency potty that we keep in the car and saying he needed to use it. Hubby pulled off while we were praising him up and down. He was clearly holding onto it saying "Biggie a good boy.... Biggie a good boy", and we got him setup in the trunk just in time. He made it! And did a #1 and #2 - first #2 in the potty!!!!! We celebrated in the parking lot for a couple of minutes before heading the rest of the way home. :gogogo::unstoppable::staystrong:

He stayed up till we got home, then crashed on the couch, we think he wanted his bottle for a bit of comfort. Munchie was pooched. We all crashed and slept till this morning.

Hubby has informed me that he is sending me to the gym to use the massage chairs tonight.:softz:

Ahhhh a nice quiet evening last night. Munchie is on summer vacation so she had a Gramma day/sleep over. Biggie and Hubby ate dinner before I got home, so we played a bit, while Hubby grabbed some groceries, then bath and bottle for Biggie and I ran off to dinner and the gym.

I did a quick stretch to get my muscles relaxed and then enjoyed the massage chairs for a bit. :softz:

I've got happy mail on the way. I've joined a pen pal community, partly to find people my age to chat with and trade creative stuff with, and partly to show the kids how the mail system works. I'm trying to give them a balance of the instant gratification system that is the internet, and enjoying the slow parts of life. They already love checking the mail, so I'm hoping to now have stuff showing up that they can be excited about. :shine:

If anyone here would like to get a postcard, letter, or drawing sent their way, feel free to send me a PM and we can trade addresses. :hellothere:

Hubby has his interview today so it was nice to see him for lunch. We're hoping he gets it, as it's right around the corner from where I work. I'm pretty sure he'll be great, he's amazing and usually walks into a place and leaves with a handshake and a uniform. He's just taking his time right now to choose a job he will enjoy since he has the privilege for that. :hop:

I'm probably going to take it easy again tonight, I'm still pretty sore and stiff from Sunday, but I do want to get some movement done so that I loosen up. :jacks:

Hello, I am returning from the life of the injured! :hellothere:

So, to sum up, the lifting of the stroller up and down the stairs on the subway for the Blue Jays game injured my left rotator cuff, so I needed to take it easy and not do much on that shoulder in order to not actually damage it. It's finally to a point that I can lift and rotate my shoulder without stabbing pain.

Then, a few days after the Jays game, Biggie decided that he's going to be a wrestler when he grows up and jumped on me knees first into my rib cage, bruising my floating rib which made sitting, breathing, laying down, standing, picking up kids, walking, and basically life painful. :yellz:

Luckily that is also healed about 90% and I have learned to block Biggie's attacks (and put him in his own submission hold in the high chair until he settles down). :littletail:

I have been maintaining some level of exercise, between playing with the kids, going for walks, and enjoying the massage chairs at the gym to loosen up my back in its reaction to the rib bruising. :moves:

Munchie has been heading in a 'brat' direction, (said lovingly towards her behaviour not her person), but we think it's because she's had 2 weeks of no schedule and just utter chaos in her life. She starts Day Camp today and we're hoping getting the structure back will get her behaviour back. She's learning to skip! She can do about 5 jumps in a row if an adult is turning the rope for her, she also got her training wheels off her bike which was her proudest moment recently. She's very much enjoying our penpals, and has made a number of drawings and notes to send to one in Utah who has two daughters 6 and 4 that are writing back to her. In great news, she's up to 37 lbs and her energy is back to where it should be. She's also requested that I make her a nightgown so she can "wear a dress to bed". We went out and got fabric, then I scratched off a pattern from one of her tank tops. She's already planning another 5 nightgowns for the rest of the year. :cutter:

Biggie is growing up in leaps and bounds. This 2.5 year old does NOT look his age. Most people think he's closer to 4. He has no baby fat, he has abs that most grownups would die for, and just boundless energy. He's nose height on Munchie, and 34 lbs himself (just in case anyone was wondering why my biceps are the size of tree trunks). We took his measurement the day he was 2.5, there is an old wives tale that if you double a kid's height at 2.5 that's how tall they will be as an adult... well he's going to be 6'5". He's started speaking in full sentences and he's doing fantastic with his potty training. Not full big boy underwear yet, but getting close. Thankfully he likes the ponies that were on Munchie's leftovers so we haven't had to go out and buy new pullups yet, but what's hilarious to me, is that Biggie at 2.5 is using the pullups that Munchie had just sized into at 3.5. We're still dealing with the last two molars coming in, the last one is really bugging him. The thing he wants most right now is frozen fruit, give him some frozen blueberries or raspberries and he's a happy camper. I can't wait for these to be done. :cute:

In biggest of news: HUBBY STARTS HIS NEW JOB ON MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!! :gotthis::gotthis::gotthis:

We're not sure how long it will last, mainly because MIL has reneged AGAIN on what she's willing to do to help us out with childcare. If the first half of his day goes toward paying the extra childcare that she won't cover (when she told us she would before he went for this job), then he may as well just work part time at Tim Hortons around the kid's school schedules. :expecting:

We will see how the summer goes, MIL is helping with that right now. If she gets into the schedule of that and is fine with it for school, then maybe this will work. At least we'll have a bit of a financial boost for a month and a half. Hubby's also worried about if he'll like it or not. His last job sucked his soul out so much that he's scared he's going to go back to that emotional state. :cantwait:

In regards to my mental state, things are doing better now that I started penpaling. Connecting with women who are my age and stage of life has helped. My IRL friends/acquaintances all either are childless or have teenage/adult children so we're in different life stages. Plus, I really only have 1 person I would call a friend, everyone else is Hubby's friends who accepted me as part and parcel with him, which is a very different relationship from a personal friend. I have another person at church who might become a friend, but at the moment we only see each other at church so... her kids are in the same class as Munchie so we have a chance to chat. Getting my creative stuff back has helped: sewing for Munchie, knitting for me, paper crafts with the penpals and adding it to my journaling, my brain is starting to quiet down. :kcoffee:

I hope everyone's having a great summer!

H'okay, where did July go? :roadkill:

I got to the gym last night for the first time in a while. Between my injuries from the beginning of the month and an absolutely insane schedule for the last week or so, I've not been the most on top of my fitness. I just walked the treadmill for about 15 minutes, but it was something. I need to get back in the habit of regular exercize, if only for my mental health from those wonderful endorphins. :fantastic:

Biggie's last molar has finally popped! Hallelujah! Then he got a cold, then he shared his cold with me... However he's getting back to sleeping most, if not all, of the night again. :makeway:

Hubby's new job is going ok, he needs to figure out some accommodations for him as most of the equipment is set up for people much shorter than him. He apparently is the tallest on the floor by about half a foot. This is causing some pain in his neck as he's looking down at all the screens or other things he needs to do.

Munchie had an issue at her day camp, big surprise, it was with the child she had an issue with at school. They're "Best friends" until they aren't. So they have been put into separate groups, and luckily they are in different grades from now on and shouldn't be in any more split classes in the future. :onfire:

Looking towards August, I definitely want to make some plans and get back on track. I'm still liking my body for the most part, and I'm still Strong Mommy, which is the most important thing, I did order some new pants in the same sizes as the last couple years, and they are a bit baggy so slow and steady heading to where I need/want to be. :jacks:

I haven't decided anything really beyond doing the August plank challenge, but I'd definitely like to do a program for the month. :smirk:

Munchie has started 'excercizing' and getting Biggie to join in as play. Maybe I can get them to be toddler dictators to get me back on schedule. :celeb:

Oh how I fooled myself in June.

Did I really say that there was no chance we were doing a family Blue Jays game again, because

:charmed::charmed::charmed:

We got last minute tickets through a friend on Friday night, and Saturday we were headed to Toronto. This time we took the train in and it worked SO. Much. Better. $10 weekend day pass per adult and kids under 12 free? Yes please! The kids can wiggle and move around a lot better than in a car seat, and no lugging a stroller up and down 600 flights of stairs. :trail:

We actually left the stroller at home and Biggie did amazing, though Hubby had to carry him a fair amount just so he didn't get swallowed by the crowd. A big 2 year old he may be, but he is nothing compared to the swarm. :roadkill:

As we walked towards the stadium, an elderly gentleman remarked on the fact that I was carrying 3 bags, a tray of drinks, and holding onto Munchie's hand to assist with the escalator with ease and grace. "Only a mother could manage that and not spill the drinks!" He then spoke to Munchie a bit about her shirt and the Blue Jays, and pointed out that his shirt was red and had his name on the back. :hope:

received_1804610503473407.jpeg

To say the kids were excited is an understatement. Munchie told anyone who would listen about how she saw Santa heading into the Blue Jays game and was very polite to him so she must be on the good list! :makeway:

The kids had a blast and we were able to get home much quicker than taking the subway north and driving from there. :hop:

I went to the gym to try and win the walking challenge on my app (and I did), and then did the full body circuit they have setup just to get some muscle work done. I regretted it the rest of the weekend because my muscles were sore but I needed to use them! :sadkitty:

Sunday we celebrated MIL's birthday a week early as Hubby is working the weekend next week (he's got his full time job that's new, but had committed to covering the hobby store owner's vacation so he's currently on an 18 day straight work period at 2 jobs. MIL was surprised, Munchie was so excited to be part of a surprise party, and Biggie was happy to be included. :bdance:

Yesterday was Civic holiday and we went to our friends' house in the afternoon to enjoy their pool with them. They're the kids godparents and the kids adore them. Munchie is getting better at swimming herself around with a pool noodle, but we really need to get her in swimming lessons so that she's safe. Biggie left the stairs willingly for the first time! He actually started jumping off the side into my arms (and boy am I feeling it). He initially was worried and nervous about jumping until he realized he could be like Pandy Paws from Gabby's Dollhouse and give me a legit Hug Attack!!! Then that's all we did for about 30 minutes. I also helped him float a bit and encouraged him to practice kicking and getting his face in the water. I have a couple of waterbabies. :heartsit:

Both kids were exhausted and slept the night through, both woke up still exhausted and grumpy. We're hoping that after another good night's sleep tonight they'll be back on even keel again. :owly:

I have the next two days off as MIL and Hubby are now both working and we have no coverage (I had time off available so I'm enjoying my days to myself). I'm going to finish up Munchie's nightgown and get some weeding done in the garden, the Wood Sorrel has decided to take over. I'm also going to get caught up on my pen pal letters, I currently have 5 ready to be written (I find pretty stationary and matching envelopes for them). :expect:

I think that's it for this update. I'm still floundering a bit on challenges/programs, but it's summer so I'm giving myself a pass so long as I keep my step count up and get to the gym more days than not. September will bring a new opportunity. :cheekz:

My last two days journey to the gym included only enjoying the massage chairs because I took those days off of work and spent them cleaning my house. Lugging around a vacuum, emptying and washing littler boxes, deep cleaning the litter area, and getting our jet tub back to functioning has done a number on my back and shoulders.

In a good way though.

Biggie has also contributed, but demanding midnight walking cuddles on my shoulder... all 35 lbs of him. There's a reason my upper arms are the size of trees.

The temperature is cooling down, we're a week away from school, and my motivation is back.

I've started Soma 40+ and have done the first two days on easy level. Yesterday I also managed to do the daily exercize with EC!

This week updates will be a bit slow and short as I'm off work with the kids. I am definitely feeling the fact that I took the summer 'off' by not doing a program, even if I was still quite active.

My muscles are like "hey, I thought we were just working normal, not targeting spots!"

So I have Soma 40+ for now as my program. I'm looking to do the 1 week 10 squats every 45 minutes challenge. The joys of my little isolated standing desk.

I haven't decided on any other challenges or plans for September, I may wait to see what the September 30 day challenge is, or just work on my program.

In personal news, we survived the summer. Munchie had a good time at Day Camp, the last 2 weeks were a bit rougher because there were a couple boys there who decided to be particularly mean to her. Luckily they don't go to her school, and her school list has only 2 kids she enjoys playing with from Kindergarten, the rest of her class (especially those she had issues with) are in the other grade 1 class. She'll see and interact with them on recess, but hopefully she'll have a better year in this new class.

Biggie is... just astounding us in every way. He's chatting up a storm now, he knows his letters, numbers, shapes, and colours. He is starting to realize that letters strung together make words (he can recognize the word "park"), and he's starting to understand the idea of addition and subtraction.

Both kids love music, singing, and dancing. They know so many songs! They're favourite mainstream song is Apt, and they also love the worship song Praise the Lord Oh My Soul! They'll randomly break out into either, which is quite the interesting soundtrack mixed in with the regular kids music.

One of their highlights from the summer was getting to ride the Train into the last Blue Jays game, they will tell anyone who listens about it.

20250802_135040.jpg

I have kept up my volunteering with LibriVox, I got to take July off on the podcast as someone else wanted to do a special focus episode, so that let me focus on other things and I got a lot of projects completed and catalogued this summer.

The pen pal community was definitely the right thing to get into. It's filled that gap of creativity/connection I was missing. I have been having so much fun playing with paper craft and making pretty letters and scrapbooking/junk journaling gifts to send. I'm also planning to start making some scrapbooks for the kids. Definitely want to make one for Munchie for her first year of school with images that we got from the teacher over the year. I remember loving to flip through albums of pictures as a kid and teen, and in this day and age, all images are tucked away on a hard drive and it's not so easy to just pull them out and look at them. It's going to cost so many millions of dollars to print them properly, but I'm planning on just printing them at work (thanks to a WONDERFUL printing policy) since they're planned for the kids. The dollar store has wonderful portfolio books with 20 pages, so it could hold 40 spreads, that I'm planning to use for the scrapbooks for now.

Hubby's new job is going. He's in a warehouse and already missing the social aspect of his previous customer service jobs. He helps out at the hobby store which gives him some of that, but it's not the same. The pay is good though, it's a job he can succeed at, and gives him his weekends back. With that we can hopefully find a balance for his little extroverted self.

We're being told we have more heat waves coming in September, so I'm going to enjoy the cool weather while we have it and work on getting back into routine.

Blah, can this week end so that school starts and I head back to work. Having our schedules all willy nilly is just no fun.

However, I did end up doing day 2 of Soma 40+, then yesterday day 1 hit me and my joints were not happy (combined with the weather front that went through).

I did go to the gym but I just walked on the treadmill a bit, and then when I got to the mat to do Day 3, I decided to stretch it out and then use the massage chair to help.

Today I had an hour kid free so I went and did my physio exercizes for my knee including a treadmill warm up.

Then I saw Labyrinth's early release. I am a major fan of the movie, and quite enjoyed the Roman legend. I'm. So. Down!

I have done the first room, and look forward to letting Munchie and Biggie choose which path we take.

Bone tired today after two nights of light sleep. We're not sure if Biggie is sick (he's seriously congested and has a very low fever), or dealing with mouth pain from his teeth (he keeps shoving his fingers in his mouth and prefers cold food to warm even though his teeth are broken through and almost completely in). What we do know is that the last two nights have been miserable. Last night he woke up screaming and flopping himself around and when I went in to settle him, he didn't want to be touched, hugged, cuddled, nothing. He flopped on the bed, kicking, like he was trying to get comfortable but couldn't, and then yelled at me to "go'way MOMMY!" So I did, and let Hubby go to him. He was able to pick Biggie up and take him downstairs for a walk around the living room to calm him down enough to state he wanted to go back up to bed, at which point Hubby was able to settle him. We're hoping tonight goes better and we can actually sleep.

Munchie got to go to her school open house where she got to find her classroom and meet her teacher. She has a couple of kids from her class last year, but luckily they're ones she gets on well with. She was very excited to see them last night and is getting geared up for starting next Tuesday, though she's not so sure about having Gramma drop her off in the morning now that Daddy is working.

I'm definitely feeling the fact that I didn't exercize much over the summer. My joints are a bit sore, and my one shoulder is so tight it's uncomfortable to look right, but that can be handled with a hot bean pillow.

I have now ventured through 2 rooms in the Labyrinth. Of course my path gave me 2 leg days in a row, but I survived.

My walking app has been quite the motivation to keep me going over the summer. I've managed to work my way up to the top league in the game, and now the quest is to come in 1st of 30 to get a badge. I've not completed that yet, but I've managed to not get demoted down a level for 3 weeks, so that's something! Lots of extra steps for me!

I'm very much enjoying the labyrinth and i can only guess how much work went into it. A masterpiece program definitely!

Sadly we had another rough night with Sir Biggie of the Fussy Pants. I just wish we could figure out if it is an illness, or just pain so we can treat it properly. During the day he's mostly ok, so long as we keep him distracted, but one thing done wrong (like putting his waffles on his plate for him rather than letting him grab them from the box) will result in a full blown ruined day meltdown.

That being said, right now he's sitting beside me playing with his stickers and singing Apt to himself... hearing a 2 year old go "kissy face kissy face yeah lets go" (because that's what he thinks the words are) is equal parts adorable and hilarious. Also, he has just a bit of a French accent when he speaks, so he'll ask for the "RRRREE-mote" or want a "Ham-bear-guere" for supper. It's kind of the best thing ever.

We had a playdate with the kids pseudo cousin this morning (3 of 4 parents have no siblings and the 4th's only sibling is child free, so... ) and Munchie was making friends left right and centre. All kids had a great time and both mom's got to actually speak grown up to each other.

Last night I did my third room in the labyrinth, and luckily it was quick but still a workout. My neck was still sore so I didn't want to do too much. I went home, took an Advil and put a hot pad on it. Then I made sure to lay on my left side and that seems to have helped it somewhat, so we will continue with that today.

I'm looking at doing September's challenge, especially since each day gets easier as (I'm sure) the Labyrinth will get harder.

I have managed to continue with the labyrinth (sadly no goblin king yet). I had to backtrack yesterday as I hit a dead end, but it wasn't too bad, in fact it was kind of fun doing slow butt kicks while I was doing dishes.

Yesterday my body hit its limit on pain with my neck and I just crashed. I was tired and slow moving. I had a hot bath after the kids were in bed, and medicated to try and get my muscles to relax. It helped some, and this morning I got to spend about an hour with almost no pain, but I think being up right is activating the muscles (since I do prefer to hold my head up) and causing things to stiffen. One thing I found out yesterday though is that the tension is actually going all the way down my left side, so I don't know if I slept weird or what, but I'm going to try to stretch out my whole back rather than focus on my shoulder and see if that helps.

I need to get in movable shape, burpees start tomorrow!!!
