I'm going to be a father!

My wife woke me up this morning to tell me she’s pregnant—we’re having a baby.
At first, I didn’t fully register what that meant, but later that afternoon it really hit me: we’re going to be responsible for a whole little life.

I’m currently around 240 lbs and deal with a thyroid condition that causes fatigue and low stamina. Until now, I never felt a strong reason to be in the best shape of my life—but this changes everything. I want to be healthy, energetic, and present for my wife and our baby.

I have 9 months to make real changes, and I’m committed. I’ve already started a couple of programs to push myself, and I’m grateful I found this community.

I’d really appreciate any tips, advice, accountability, or encouragement to help me stay consistent and on track. This journey means a lot to me, and I’m ready to put in the work—for my family and for myself.

As a fellow new father (my son was born 4 months ago) who also found fatherhood to be a good motivator to get in more shape -- welcome!! I didn't start until my son was born, so you've got a lot more lead time than I did. :-)

Thanks and congratulations to you too. Hearing this makes me want to take advantage of the lead time. I appreciate it!

Congratulations! That's so incredibly exciting! :D

It may help to take a moment and think about what specifically you mean by "be healthy." What does fitness look like to you? That's gonna vary from person to person. Since you mention low energy and fatigue. Stamina and endurance might be a good starting point in that case.

Thank you!!

Yes, for sure. I hadn't thought about it more in depth. But Stamina and endurance does sound like a great starting point. I feel like with most people I was just picturing the end result like the light at the end of the tunnel. But how to get there is going to be a journey. Like I mentioned I am 240 lbs and to be healthy I would need to make better choices. Like consuming more nutritious meals over junk food. Drinking more water over sugary drinks. I struggle every morning to put on my socks and shoes to go to work. I need to also work on my flexibility if I want to be on the floor playing with my kid.

Thank you for your comment, it definitely made the bigger picture more clear. 😊

Congratulations!
Now is the right time to change old (unhealthy) habbits into new ones that will last forever so you can show your kid all the good stuff (healthy food, good sports, happy life). Never forget it‘s a lifelong journey :hheart:

"Hello"
9 months is a great amount of time to work toward certain goals. But you can still work on improving your fitness and stamina even after that point! For now, those healthier habits you mention are good. Nutrition, water, and easily putting on socks/shoes are all definitely achievable in 9 months. As your baby grows up, you can also continue to grow!

II may not be wording this right, but my point is that I don't want you to be discouraged when the 9-month timeline is up, or feel like "okay, that's it! It's over now, I did it - the baby is here". Too many people think about a certain date and then feel anxiety about where they are at at that point! But you've got this, one month from now, five months from now, nine months from now! And maybe you'll be playing soccer or doing dance parties 6 years from now! Darebee even has some exercises you can do with a baby hehe

I would like to suggest you to use 7 darebee training programs.
You have to go to the guides on page 2, where you can find "how to start with excercise if you're overweight"
You will see that when your child is born, you will be in great shape!
