For your birthday workout, I would also like to gift you and join in for for 55 Front Leg Raises, Back Leg Raises, Side Bends, and Bridges!
Thank you!

I've added all the gifts to my spreadsheet now, plus any exercises in TBS 11 + 12 and Valkyrie 11 + 12 (that weren't already gifted). Sunday I cooked for 12 hours, then hosted a dinner party in the evening. My only workout was my 10 push-ups, plus walking Shelby and a bit of restorative yoga. Tonight I had Aikido class. I've only done my push-ups, plus walking Shelby on top of that, thus far. Will likely do a couple more small things before bed. But I'm not going to push for a big catch up day today with my epic birthday workout on deck for tomorrow. So I will use 55 for 55 to get caught up on both TBS and Valkyrie. I've also added the Aikido basic movements. Those will be good to practise. Finally, tuck jumps, plus a couple of yoga poses should bring me to 55 exercises (unless I goofed and listed something twice!) Weather forecast is looking good for my run too. Let's do this!

Birthday run is done! (There was a bit of freezing rain on one stretch, but overall pretty mild weather for a January run here.)
Push-ups and burpees are also done! 35 exercises in total done so far. 20 more to go.

Thank you to everyone who's joining me in the workout today and thank you too for the birthday wishes!
More to come! (After I refuel!)

Tuesday, January 13:

Hiking: 5.7 km :v:
Planking*: :v:
Push-ups (minimum 10): 55 + 55 burpees :v:
Touch the Bar: active hang :v:
Arcade Challenge: Day 12 :v:
Atlas Challenge: Day 12 :v:
Total Body Strength: Days 11-13 :v:

Run Proof (optional): :x:
Glutes, Quads, Hamstrings, & Calves (optional): :v:
Aikido (Mondays only): :v:
yoga: :v:

* I'm dropping the First Thing Plank Challenge but keeping planks on my schedule as a daily activity. I want to keep working on my planks. Just not using the protocol of that particular challenge. (I almost never do them first thing. And I like to mix them up and do different varieties of planks, including active planks.) The Programs that I'm doing now (Total Body Strength and House of the Valkyrie) give me planking work on many days, and I don't feel the need (or desire) to do extra plank holds on those days.

Consecutive days of exercise: 84 :v:

It is GREAT to be 55 YEARS STRONG!

Slept 9 hours Tuesday night. And had a long nap Wednesday afternoon. Did not get to bed on time Wednesday night as a result. But the sleep was good and much needed.

And good to read Shelby's surgery went well, how's her recovery?
Shelby is doing great! (I don't call her "Super Shelby" for nothing!) She is mad that she's not allowed to eat big crunchy biscuits at the moment. On the other hand, she is happy that she gets to eat tasty wet food all the time in the meantime. I've decided her realtor friend is allowed to give her liver treats if we break them up into small pieces for her. (The liver treats aren't that hard or chewy, and Shelby will mostly swallow them whole if they're small pieces anyhow.) The realtor was afraid Shelby wouldn't forgive her if she didn't treat her for two whole weeks, and was actually making Shelby a special "pumpkin spice latte for dogs" to still be able to give her something. (This thing has to be brewed, and then cooled. And the realtor clearly got out of bed on Saturday morning to make it for Shelby! It makes me happy that we have neighbours who make my dog happy. But having to text people in advance of our walks to arrange Shelby's coffee dates for her is a bit much! :tears: )

@NancyTree @DorothyMH thank you.

That is getting to be SO many reps on your BD workout!😂
Right? It was already a badass workout when I was 44. These days I have to be careful to include at least 50% exercises I can bash out quickly, or there aren't enough hours in the day to get them all done!

Bit of an ad hoc update today. (It's far too easy for me to lose the plot when I don't update here regularly.)

Shelby aced her post-op check-up (of course!) and is now cleared to eat nice crunchy biscuits again.

I have kept up with some form of exercising every day, but I've fallen behind on my regularly scheduled challenges. I'll be doing mostly martial arts moves tonight and tomorrow for the Battleground. Will get back to the regular program on Thursday.

What else?

The weather here is frigid. So hiking mileage is down. A windchill of "only" -20C feels downright balmy now compared to some of the nights we've had recently. So I might toughen up and take Shelby for a bit of a longer walk on the weekend. (No promises though.)

Writing this week is once again focused on non-fiction stuff. I hope to get to some fiction writing by the weekend. But it won't be five days of it this week.

My Daily Exercise and No Solo Videogames streaks stand. But Extended Gaming Rules is zeroed as of today. (Even if I manage to make up the time and hit my targets for the week, the spirit of Extended Gaming Rules was definitely violated today--and also on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.) I struggle to maintain focus, with the world on fire as it is. But abandoning my plans won't help anything. So I'm fighting my way back into the game!

But first: Shelby and I must head out for a walk before the temperature drops any more tonight.

Catch you on the morrow, friends.

I haven't commented much on the state of the world recently because, quite frankly, the events unfolding now in the nation immediately south of my own have been so horrific, I'm finding it difficult to focus on any writing at all, let alone come up with something even halfway coherent to express my horror, grief, anger, frustration, fear, etc. over what the US government is doing to its own people. American friends: I won't offer you prayers or wishes, because I don't believe those things have any power to improve your situation. But I have seen enough strength, courage, caring, and chutzpah from the citizens of your country that I believe you, yourselves, have the power to overcome the evil that is being inflicted upon you. You have my love, my tears, and my hope.

Minimal workout this day, because I was tired. Some of that is mental stress from things over which I have no control. But also: I am short of sleep. And I'm running out of leftovers and so not eating enough. I need to get my act together today to do some food prep.
