Hi all,

I've been lurking for a while, and I've used darebee for quite some time but only made my first account today. My goal is to complete the Power Up program this month (technically I'm starting on day 3 but I'm okay with that) and do the Push-Ups and Squats Challenge on days where I feel up to it. I have a gym membership and I WAS going twice a week, but this past month I got hit really hard with prep for a move, finals, and a series of rejections in my job search. I just signed a part-time contract for a job that I can actually use my degree for, AND I got word that I was selected for a part-time graduate student research position. But I've been eating prefab food and not working out, so I gained some weight and feel kinda crappy.

I want to feel good again!

Just did day 5 of Power-Up. I did an add-on challenge yesterday and I felt it today, because I had to pause at points. I'm gonna keep going, but I do feel a bit discouraged. bleh
It is normal to have to stop at some points when you start training, the important thing is to finish the exercise even if you take breaks and to know that your willpower is still intact. Little by little you will manage to complete them and at that moment you will realise that all the effort you are making is worth it.

Still having to pause at points in the workout, but I picked it back up as soon as I could and got through it! If I can, I'm going to try and do day 4 of the push ups + squats challenge. I'll update if I manage to do it! It's 55 squats throughout the day, so I might do some and update a little at a time. It's 8p now though, so idk

As Korenth says above, it is already a very important step that you consider continuing to do your routines. And the time will come when you will need to do them, also the days when you feel bad or you are tired think that while you exercise you will surely not be thinking about other things and when you finish and achieve it you will feel very satisfied for your effort and for improving yourself and you can look back and say that a month ago I would not have done it. At that moment you will see your improvement and your commitment. Be strong and keep going, this is just the beginning of an improvement for the future. :vibes:

Day 10 of Power Up DONE! I also went for a long walk carrying groceries today (about 1 hr in total probably). Taking a break and then I might do another workout of some sort, haven't decided yet which one or if I'm quite up for it. I'm also in the process of cutting down on caffeine (during finals, I always get hooked on energy drinks and burn the shit out of my tongue from the acid in those things). I started by allowing myself infinite coffee as it was less intense than the energy drinks. Now I'm down to infinite black tea. When I got groceries, I got all food that's slightly healthier than I currently feel I can commit to long-term, but is still tasty and I want to try it out: brown rice and quinoa instead of pasta, tofu, yoghurt, and low fat cottage cheese instead of fatty meats (partly because I'm moving next week and I don't want to deal with any intense cooking right now) and lots of frozen fruit and some fresh veggies.

Thankfully, I mostly have a good relationship with food, and I know the vices that tend to get me in trouble:

-too much caffeine
-too much fatty meats and cheese (though there's nothing wrong with these in small quantities, I've been eating so much crap that I feel like I need a reset)
-not enough fruits and vegetables
-too much white pasta
-ramen, I always eat two packets at a time and the salt is insane
-too much prefab food due to being overworked and becoming overwhelmed with the thought of cooking consistently

I'm not going to count calories because when I did that in the past it led to disordered eating (to each their own; I'm not judging anyone). I AM going to make the above substitutions and see which ones I can make sustainable. I did look for high protein pasta (I don't like whole grain; multigrain is okay) but they didn't have any.

Let's goooo!

You are rebuilding you body at the moment, forcing it to change, to grow, to reshape. It is totally OK to feel down sometimes, as it all takes energy, mental and physical. Keep doing exercises, buy new food, treat it all like an adventure, and all will fall in place. Very soon you going to start to notice little changes, so celebrate them because you made that happen! :pose:
