From 29 October until 1 November I was on the yearly creative autumn meeting of the Hungarian Tolkien Society. The event itself is always thematised (this year we were all orcs living in Mount Gundabad), but that's just a flavour, there are no RPG elements (unless you specifically participate in an RPG workshop if there is one -- this year there were about five), and it's not strictly Tolkien-related either. It's mostly just a way for the community to gather and hold so-called workshops for each other that are activities ranging from creative work to training your body to complex games.

Throughout the weekend there were five three-hour-long workshop slots and an  abundance of workshops to choose from. I ended up making copper rings, turned two mugs into winter and autumn decorations, learned a céilí choreography, and for the last two slots I went biking.

The engraving wasn't done by me, I just cut it (during which I learned that sawing metal is not fun) and hammered it into the shape of a ring. Yes, it's Elvish and it's the first words of the hymn to Elbereth that Frodo and Sam hear when they first meet Elves, still in the Shire.
This is how Howard Shore imagined the hymn for the movies:

And this is my favourite version of the English translation, composed by Katka García. I really recommend listening to this one, it's gorgeous!

My boyfriend told me I probably shouldn't drink hot coffee from a mug that was superglued back together after it broke in half, so I thought it a good opportunity to reuse it as decoration.

And here's the autumn mug:

This wooden jug is from the 2021 Tolkien Camp which was hobbit-themed. The weather was horrible that week, everyone was cold and a lot of hot tea was consumed. What I didn't consider was that the hot tea would melt the wax inside the jug... I could have reapplied the wax to make it useful again as a jug, but instead it's now a piece of decoration too, with an adorable deer.
The text on the jug says "no admittance except on second breakfast business".

Your Tolkien Society runs the coolest programming!
I know! It's incredible how a wholly non-profit organisation can keep doing events of such quality.

Oh, there are lots of Tolkien societies all over the world! It's a good basis for a little bit of international interaction, too. I'm contemplating going to a similar event of the Czech society in January... :LOL:

This day I signed up for my next race: a half marathon in late April! I was brave and entered for a faster start zone than before (predicted finish time: 1:45:00-1:56:00). My PB is 1:55:43, so this should be doable, but I'm also 5 kg heavier than I was then. Will a race be enough motivation for me to have more discipline regarding food? I'm afraid not :p

Finishing this challenge took quite a while, not because I didn't like it, but my days were just packed both with work and workouts.

From this day on, my boyfriend has a godson! I was asked whether I wanted to be the godmother, but I'm not christened, so... We excused ourselves from the lunch that followed, because the boy's mother is "only" a close friend of my boyfriend, not a relative, and we didn't want to interrupt the family event, not knowing them all that well. And we wanted to go to IKEA in the afternoon anyway. That was tiring: 2x12 km cycling and going through the entire store in-between… I had a 5 km run planned for the evening, but didn't have much energy left, so when my boyfriend said I shouldn't go out, I was very easily convinced. My watch recommended 60 hours of recovery anyway.

The day ended with me throwing a tantrum because the hangers I bought in hopes of having more storage space in our tiny kitchen didn't want to stay where I put them. I forgot to consider that their suction cups wouldn't work with the uneven tiles of the kitchen walls… My overreaction was funny: it seems I need such little accidents for the dam to burst and everyday stress to be relieved.

This night I cycled to a part of the city I had never been to. There are memes about how unsafe that area is (the friend I was visiting said: "So you're coming by bike? You're going to leave without it.") It's all an exaggeration, of course (though I heard there was an incident involving a knife a few streets away from my friend, not too long ago), but I actually had to call my boyfriend to tell him I was alright. I was merely stopping at a crossing to let the cars pass, and my watch somehow interpreted this as an accident and began sending an emergency message to my boyfriend. At first I stopped it in time, but it happened again, and then the message was sent. I have no idea what was up with the watch, it wasn't even a sudden braking.

I managed to do a little bit of exercise before the others got up, and after breakfast we followed a trail to a nearby lookout tower. We were glad that the weather was nice and we could go out, because otherwise our brains would've been completely dulled from playing board games all day long.

We arrived back home from Lake Balaton, and I had a 90-min nap… It wasn't even sleepiness, rather that the pill I took against motion sickness (which I need for any car ride longer than ~1 hour…) sedated me so much that even after those 90 minutes I felt like I could sleep forever. But hey, better that than having to clean someone else's car… :p

Then I went to bed very early… the last time my Garmin showed a body battery of 100 was on 2 November and it barely ever got above 50 this past week. I slept long and well, but still only raised it to 69. :panic:
