So here I was, picking up a personal art project while reviewing my exercise routine for today, when something clicked in my mind. After all, art also requires training, and there's a lot of talk about training the eye muscle, so I thought, “Hey, why not have an art corner here at Darebee too?”

So, drum roll please, I present to you: The Art Corner!

I won't be picky. What is art? Well, whatever you consider it to be: oil paintings, digital art, conceptual art, sketches, comics, graffiti, animation, crafts, painting Warhammer miniatures, building Legos...

And I think it could be really interesting to have a place to share and discuss the joys and sorrows of artistic life.

So, whether you've just finished and want to share your magnum opus or you're doing some practice sketches and you're proud of it, whether you have an imposter syndrome episode that you're struggling to deal with, whether you need advice on how to give 3D volume to that hand in that complicated pose, if you need advice on color theory, if you don't know how to get out of your creative block, if you've just finished a model that anyone could mistake for the real thing, if you've found a brush pack or an artist who uploads great reference images and you want to share it, if you have twenty sketchbooks that you don't want to use so as not to ruin them, if... well, you get the idea!

The Art Corner! Let's work those creative muscles together! :yas:

Excellent idea, bot sure if it counts, but middle of December I sort of unexpectedly decided to try to learn some piano. Also requires daily workout 😀
Oh, wow, that's a very important decision! How did you come to want to learn piano?

It was in fact surprising for me as well. My husband had mentioned from time to time, over the years, that he might want to get back to learning the piano, which he studied decades ago. So when he brought it up again, I said, “Hey, let’s check if we can first borrow one.” We did — and it turns out I’m enjoying it same or even more than he is. So it is cool to (re)discover it together :)

I couldn't ignore the fact that Moofasa does The Thing® when he starts reading a new scroll. Yes, exactly, the same thing your grandfather does when you show him a meme on your phone.

And I couldn't help myself, I had to sketch him. :tears:

Me showing my minotaur friend a funny scroll.

I've been talking a lot about my ushabtis around here. You know, those funerary figurines that we Kemetics use as minions to help us with our tasks. And I realized that I've never shown you one. So, taking advantage of the fact that I'm in creative mode, I decided to sketch one of the many I have guarding the temple, since they are the most static models. These little guys are efficient and fast, although adorably clumsy in their movements, making them difficult to draw if they are doing a more active task.

I've never been particularly skilled at drawing expressions. It's not that I've practiced much either. But thanks to the books I'm reading, I'm feeling more inspired and confident to practice.

Yesterday, after doing several sketches with very simple expressions to try to capture the essence of each one, I decided to draw an expression of confusion to try to apply what I had learned. And well... it didn't turn out at all as I expected. It was incredibly frustrating. :sus:

I've been racking my brains trying to understand what I was doing wrong. And I think I've figured it out! After drawing the basic shapes of the head, I always start by drawing the snout because it's in the foreground, and then I draw the eyes and mouth.

Well, today I changed my strategy. First, I drew eyes and a mouth that resembled the expression I was looking for, and then I drew the snout to fit the mouth, not the other way around. And I couldn't be happier with the result!

I mean, look how confused I look!

LOVE THIS THREAD!

I've picked up doing some crocheting a few months ago. It's slow since I mostly think to do it during down time at work. But it's been fun so far.

My big thing is that I picked up doing some daily doodling. It's been a nice way to be a little artsy each day. And an excuse to break out the colored pencils for this current month. Doing prompts from The Petite Planner to make it easy on myself. Here are the ones I've got so far.

Hey, these doodles are really good! I especially like the Acorn one. It makes me happy to see people who are so cultured!

Thought I had replied specifically to this, but I LOVE the expression! It turned out great!

Ah, I love this. I agree that there is a lot of overlap between art and exercise. Progressing over time, showing up on the harder days, keeping it fun for yourself and so much more.

I've recently gotten into sketching animals again and I like how these birdies turned out.

Woah! That lineart and shading is fire! :worried:

Ayyyy I just discovered this thread and I love it. I love everyone's art so much. :D

I have some drafts and things I do when I get the itch to draw/paint (which unfortunately isn't very often).

To keep with the theme, I will present you a draft I made of Nefertiti's bust a few years ago.

Oh my gods! That rendering is absolutely magnificent! It really looks like an actual photo!
