Is it possible he is having problems with vision or vertigo/loss of balance? Trudy definitely does not want to move around in the dark anymore. For a while she was spending part of the night on my bed and part on the floor. When she decided she wanted to get up onto the bed in the middle of the night, she would bark. I'd wake up, turn on the bedside lamp, and she would climb into the bed and settle right down to sleep. She would not climb up in the dark though!
Oh yes, he’s definitely got vision and hearing loss. Can’t see shit. And, his guard dawg days are long gone. Our upstairs hallway and bedroom door have curtains up for bthe summer for cool air containment, and he won’t go thru them at night. I need to remember to leave openings in the sides, because when I do, he has been able to maneuver through. And, at the top of the stairs, the kitchen light *sees* him, then his way is lit. Thanks for the reminder🥴👍🏼

AM- was awakened by a fussy Boo at 12:45am. I took them both outside to do their things. We went right back to bed and to sleep. I woke up again at 5:30am to one of them pawing at their bed in their sleep. I’m a light sleeper, so anything wakes me up. I made myself stay in bed, and slept another hour until my white noise stopped, which always wakes me up.😂

I heard Boo rustling around, and then leave the room, saw the kitchen light come on for him, then heard him make his way back upstairs where he threw himself onto the floor on husb’s side of the bed. Canoe slithered up onto the bed at some point. I woke up for the day when my white noise stopped, then got up at 6:15am.

AM- Boo woke me up once around 1 am, and they both went outside. Then we all slept til nearly 7am, Canoe was slithering up to nestle into my armpit🥰. Then out back, I see a newly dug hole in one of the terraces. I didn’t see him do it, but there’s dirt in his nails, so😣And, while I watched, he went beyond the corner of the yard where the fence ends. Husb had put up a barrier of large landscape bricks to prevent wear down of the corner, and Canoe was beyond those. I think he’s acting out cuz husb is gone😒

Pico scratches things, anything except her scratching pole, when she needs stress relieve. Like when I was away all day or when the new neighborhoodcat chased her.
So I think your theory about the 'acting out' could be accurate, 'acting out' is I think also just stress relieve/coping with emotions for kids.

AM- managed to sleep all night again, yay!🥳 This morning, however, Canoe went after Boo for no known reason like the intent was to “kill the old one”: no playing, just mad/viscous face/teeth and lunging. I had to administer the serious consequences, there. Thankfully, there was no actual contact. But, now, everyone is in their separate corners: Boo is mad/scared of Canoe. And, Canoe is pouting, cuz I had to freak out all over him. Boo growls if he even SEES Canoe. Canoe is slinking around staying the hell away from Boo. Sigh😤 Dawg politics is so fun in the morning😓.

They both each suicided long before they got to be my age. I am missing them a lot, apparently😫Just need my parents and stepdad to show up in a dream to make the deceased party complete😵‍💫

It is because I had read Exodus recently, and wanted to get a better feel for wtf was in this man’s head. As I hear the news every day about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it sounds remarkably similar. All the far right sentiment in this country sounds similar, as well. Which is scary, indeed. I wanted to reread how it all started, the 2nd world war….unfortunately, this volume ends with an averted start of war with Czechoslovakia. In order to get to the start of WWII, I’ll have to read Vol 2!😵‍💫

Is that what life is like with doggos (and cattos)? Nighttime snuggles, waking up early, and lots of walks? If so, it sounds awfully cute!
I’m not fond of the night time awakening, but, when my husb is home, he usually gets up with them and lets me sleep. I normally do most of the daytime stuff🥴😎

AM- woke just after 6am (PDT), to 20 (F)degrees, feels like 13🥶. Having a hard time wanting to clean up the yard, walk, etc. Gonna have to bundle up the Canoe dawg so he doesn’t freeze to death with his thin fur😳
  • Yard Clean up/Canoe ball throwing: x30 mins. Husb is mowing up walnut tree leaves as the tree started dumping them at 9am😵‍💫
  • Doggo walk: x~1 mile in field with walk/run intervals to keep Boo moving and Canoe running.✅ Canoe’s fleece jacket from last year won’t fit around his rib age, anymore😤

AM- woke up late at nearly 7:30am (PDT). Boo had a rough night, fussy and up twice, threw up, slept late, won’t eat this morning… his usual version of a bad day😞Canoe accompanied us all, but, because it was raining outside, he would not go out onto the grass to go pee.😓

  • Doggo walk: ~1 mile✅…not as cold today, but Boo being out of sorts, didn’t want to push him for distance🥴

AM- up at 4am with fussy Boo, then went back to bed; husb had already been up with him once, and couldn’t go back to sleep until *I* got up finally at 6:30am (PDT). Now, both doggos and husb are asleep, and the wind has been blowing a gale since we went to bed last night. It rattles the house vents so much we have to leave the bathroom fan going all night in our master suite, or no one will sleep😓

Let me know if you gain any insight from your reading. I struggle with the same questions and worries. Hearings are underway here in Canada now to review our government's invoking of the Emergencies Act last winter to end the illegal occupation of Ottawa. Convoy organizers testified this week, and their testimony revealed pretty strongly that these people are wildly out of touch with objective reality. During the occupation, they were told repeatedly that their behaviour was illegal. They were asked repeatedly by law enforcement to leave. They were served with cease and desist notices re: the honking of truck horns, which reached decibel levels consistent with torture. And this week they testified that they believed their protest was about peace and love and bouncy castles and that they didn't do anything wrong or hurt anyone. The organizers are all facing criminal charges for their involvement in the occupation. So their testimony at the inquiry was obviously going to be performance pieces designed to assist with their defense in their own criminal trials. But still... It's scary that so many people are falling prey to extremist ideologies and many are seemingly unaware of the road they are going down.
