"ᚨ Ars longa, vita brevis"
I have been on a terrible mood over the past days. My problems in my mouth got upgraded from sores and burns into a full blown yeast infection. I have oral thrush, and it's been keeping my mouth dry, swollen, and very hard to speak. My tongue lost its dexterity, it feels like my gums and teeth are made out of pumice stone, and it's so dry it hurts to open my lips. I even fasted for a whole day because I couldn't have any food due to the pain.

Thankfully, it's getting better. My mouth is starting to work like normal by having saliva all over, and I'm producing a lot, so much so that I accidentally spat on someone. And because of that, I'm also starting to improve, mood-wise speaking. That's why I haven't even worked out with my gifts, both the one I gave as well as to the one I received. So, once again, I'm putting my mental health as a top priority, and focusing only, and only, on improving my mood: reducing stress, anxiety... and just finding joy on things once again. Even though I got distracted while I was writing 359, it was fun to write it without any filter. I mean, I've been dropping my filters slowly without noticing it, and I think this time I'm going back. Small actions, small impacts... but hopefully the impacts will be big.

Only 6 days to finish the challenge. 6 days! Hard to believe it's been one year of doing this. I'm on my last pages now. I'm genuinely curious to see what will come of it too.

No, the score is not a punishment, no classification, no humiliation, nothing like that. It's just a way to measure my performance, and I know my performance is not at the highest, and I'm not using the score to blame myself. Why? because what's happening to me now is a health issue; both a mental and a physical health issue because I wouldn't have gotten yeast if my anxiety didn't go up. I am not enjoying the holidays the way I want, thus I'm not eating right, I'm not working out, and obviously everything is crashing down. It's the same thing as the gallbladder, but now I can't put things in my mouth that aren't cold, bland, and soft.

Thus, the only thing that I'll concern myself for during this week is just that: to heal. To cure myself from the yeast infection that took over my mouth. That's all.

Week 1 (1st week of the year) Goals:

HEAL. Everything else is optional.

D6 Roll: Huh?

Rating: 15/100
Training Plan for the Week: Do the Secret Santa gifts.

Well, I've been getting the treatment for the thrush and things are improving and also not. The yeast wants to spread into my throat. A pair of colonies decided to grow at the base of my tongue, really far away so that I can't see it but someone else with a light can, and it has given me both sore throat symptoms (having a hard time swallowing), and pain when speaking. I should point out none of these is throat pain, but tongue pain, but it feels like a sore throat. Nevertheless, the yeast is reducing, and it has reduced enough to the point where I can actually eat normally! And I ate normally today!

Taking that win.

Also: finished the challenge, and Fit December. Aside from that, I only have 2 days to go to finish the 365, which will be this Friday.

I also did the Secret Santa gifts, both the one that I got (thank you! I added 5 extra Burpees to get to the next 10th counter because I like having zeros on my Burpees), which was really fun, and it was impressively quick! It was chaotic game of chairs with the gravity and whatnot, but the Burpees are just what I needed today. Perfect way to close the year. It's 20 Burpees, but hey I'll take them. Hey... I might bring back those hundreds of Burpees occassionally too. I'm thinking on clearing a few things up to open up my routine, and I'm looking to both write the same, publish more, and pick the Burpees back up.

I noticed that there were a lot of superheroes this year; possibly because the prompt for the gifts followed on the same events that happened during Halloween. I haven't done Hero's Journey as of yet. I've done the Superhero Week back when that was an event though, and all I remember is that not all superheroes wear capes (most likely due to those being hazardrous for flying superheroes who are too close to planes), masks, or even have a full secret identity. It really got pushed in the idea that we're all heroes! I love it, Laura, and I love everybody's gifts too. Of course, I'm not trying to figure out who gave to who yet because I'm bad at it, and probably Syrius would've more than likely had it right before anybody else. I mean, she is probably taking notes off this post as well.

This second half of the year was rough, but I lived it. I survived it. Now, it's time for new things; cool things too. It's time to get out there and publish, because there's a new thing I added to my stats: amount of words published. The goal is to have at least 10% of my total written words published.

And because the 365 is pretty much over, I'll try to have a legacy of that by writing for 30 minutes on a daily basis; same rules, just on the computer. This time I'll be using this as some sort of seedbed, or greenhouse, a place to just put seedlings in there and maybe start developing as full stories if one idea calls me, so I can pick it up, and write it properly.

This time the 365 will start again, with similar rules, but the format will be on notebooks, and I won't be writing strictly with pen, but anything that I have in hand: pen, pencil, whatever. My focus will shift from stories to poetry. Erotic poetry about the same subject as before, because I'm not bored of it. The only difference is that, while I did the previous challenge as a way to curve perfectionism, this one I'll do it to get my toes wet into poetry, and I'll do it in Spanish because I understand that language better than English.

I'll be starting everything on January 1st. That is today!

Happy New Year!

Well, the numbers are in now...

Winter
Spring
Summer
Fall
TOTAL
Days of Writing:
88
91
81
89
349
Words Written:
95296
107422
99530
110415
412663
Days of Burpees:
75
71
45
21
212
Burpees Done:
13040
9500
4240
840
27620

The dip on Burpees makes sense because during Summer is when the dysentery happened, and thus my Burpees dropped. Also my days of writing dropped on that moment, same reason. I couldn't even get out of bed to write, let alone do Burpees, hence I had a drop on writing days too. Nevertheless, I managed to write more than in 2024. 2024 nested 245646 words across 180 days, and most of that happened during Fall because of NaNoWriMo. The 365 definitely added to some days because, somehow, I feel like I wrote even less this year, even though I didn't, especially considering that I finished two challenges, and almost finished a third challenge!

I don't know what to do with this now, but I'm sharing it. By the way, the reason I want to publish more is because out of all those 412663 words I wrote, I only published... 1500 words. Yeah, 0.36% of what I've written; less than half a percent.

Great work @Sólveig ! Your stats there really show the importance of consistency! It's too easy for so many of us to blow off the work (whatever it is) when we think our time and/or energy is low and we just can't get it together to do a lot. But you showed up anyway, and your numbers reflect that. Congratulations!

Congratulations too on completing Fit December and the 50 Push-ups a Day Challenge!

@Laura Rainbow Dragon @TopNotch @Anek @Fremen Thank you!

@Laura Rainbow Dragon The biggest lesson is that showing up is the victory, not hitting any wordcount goal or something whatsoever. The only job I had was to sit down and fill an entire leaf on both sides with a story. It didn't matter if it was a first draft, it didn't matter if it was bad, it didn't matter if it was unfinished, the only thing it needed to do is to exist. And it gave me way not only to twist just one singular theme into a lot of variations, but forced me into writing in other genres. It was all fiction, yes, but I also wrote several letters, normal dialogues and chat logs, and I even wrote scripts. Plus, that challenge served me a lot of story seeds that I later used, as well as it worked as a place for me to practice a few things I didn't know how to. The biggest issue that I had with NaNo was how the hell do I write a first person narrator that has no gender whatsoever on an erotica, and I managed to write said narrator several times long before November as a way to get a clue.

I do have a lot of takeaways from that advice of drawing the same thing for a year, but that'll have to wait until I write the last story.

The yeast is clearing up. It's been almost a week, and I don't have that weird sore throat like difficulty for swallowing or speaking anymore. I'm eating normal again, even though I'm just being a bit more hygienic than usual. Still, I caught a cold, more than a year since the last cold I've gotten. Doesn't seem to be severe, but it's just annoying. Not as much as not being able to eat, drink, or even speak, but it's still annoying.

The new year came in with a ram when it comes to writing. Not only I started my seedbed by suddenly writing a scene that wouldn't look out of place on a detective story (I may have ended up starting a Chandler-esque short, like the ones you'd find on Black Mask... Spanish Blood, Nevada Gas, the ones that I've read recently), and that was unexpected. I also started the new 365; same rules as the previous one, but I ditched the pens and favored any writing tool instead, and used a time restriction because it's poetry, and I wrote, in 30 minutes, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 7, 7 poems! The last one was even an acrostic! Some are crap, some have potential, same rule applies: it doesn't matter. I'm learning, not trying to become the next Samuel Beckett, or in the case of Spanish, the next Andrés Eloy Blanco... but the ambition sounds nice considering what I'm doing...

But anyway, I wrote hard today. I wrote hard, and now... I'm about to finish one challenge that took me a whole year to complete. It feels odd knowing that all I have left is the final leaf to fill up. 13 notepads, 27 ballpoint pens, 364 stories. Tomorrow will be the last one, and I'll start a spreadsheet to see the final wordcount, the total time spent writing it, and the averages of everything, including the amount of ballpoint pens used, and the amount of notepads sacrificed to this purpose.

Well, uh... When I went to bed last night my goal was to post something different. Of course, I went to bed late, I was just wasting a bit of extra time because I wanted to...

Then, my mom woke up, and told me something that I thought was horrible, like my aunt finally passed. The only word I caught from her mouth was "fell." I genuienly thought that she fell in the middle of her sleep, and passed away like that. No, she then mentioned the name. Mr. Moustache's last name. My eyes peeled, and suddenly I realized that the combat music I was hearing as soon as I woke up was this:

It happened WHILE I WAS STILL AWAY, and just as I predicted, it was going to be not just quick, but also extremely surgical and concentrated to only one place of the country: Caracas. Excitement and anxiety is what's ruling today because, after all, we've been waiting for 26 years for this day, and I should mention, I live with someone with Alzheimer's who not only has outlived the military dictatorships from the 50s, and the 49 years of freedom we had after the fall of MPJ (which actually also happened in January of 1958; the 23rd to be exact, under very similar circumstances as these, except that the dude actually escaped instead of being captured because his own men turned on him), and now she may also have outlived this regime, to which I find just... insane.

The yeast infection is better. I'm still not to 100%, but the fungi apparently stopped growing. I wrote yesterday, and I finished one challenge. I wrote 365 stories, one daily, all about the same thing. I was going to talk about it today, but after what happened in the morning, I... I'm just shocked.

Things are going to go really bad, but they have to, and I want them to go really bad, because what happened today is the day we've all waiting for. It's finally the day in which we can start undoing all the damage that these jerks spread upon the country for the last quarter of century. The only way for the country to recover is by things going bad first in order to then get better, because we can recover from this. As of now, the party is behaving like headless chickens. The main head of the hydra was cut and cauterized. What comes next is a waiting game, and if my thoughts are correct, everything will stick to Caracas. The trouble will only be bad if it bleeds out of there. It has bleed into La Guaira, but that's because La Guaira is not just very close to Caracas, it's also the closest coastline to Caracas, so that is also expected.

@Laura Rainbow Dragon @Fremen @TopNotch Thank you! :welcome:

Right now I'm dumping all the data from the previous 365 into a spreadsheet to calculate the amount of time, maybe make some graphs, and also see how my performance was. Just dumping data on the amount of words and time invested, which now in retrospect I wish I would've done it. Well, I'm just starting the seedbeds and the poems, so I could dump that same data on the spreadsheet once I'm done with these in particular, which wouldn't take long, really. So far I have the first 100 days, and there's one thing I noticed too: slowly, as the days went on, I started to push my writing further and further down, until it was nearly time to go to bed. The majority of the times that I wrote this challenge in particular was before midnight too.

Now, the wordcount total for the whole 365 days is 197866 words. That's 543 words daily. That's quite a slow way to build at least 4 novels, which is quite a cool thing to see. Later on I'll start transcribing each sheet into the computer, but I do like to have written so much. And I also do see an improvement. From the first story to the last there was a massive difference, not just because the earliest stories were mostly strokers (and I didn't drop them, really), but because the earliest stories had more... doubtful brush strokes? I was more insecure, that's what I'm trying to say. I was more insecure not because I consciously felt insecure, but more like the way I wrote felt like a brush stroke that was done very slowly, with a trembling hand. The last story was far much different. It was a very quick stroke, done with precision, and with a very steady hand.

Restrictions got me working into more unique ideas, I developed concepts I wouldn't ever thought about without them, and I broke the mold, especially when someone told me that what I chose is a tough ask, and I was defeating the point of my niche. Bullsh*t. That was absolute bullsh*t. I didn't defeat my niche, I transcended it. The same restrictions that made my niche tough, the same niche that I chose for the challenge, the same theme that I'm still writing about and I don't see myself quitting for the longest, made me transcend it. I can make a story without it, but if I want to, I can add the niche in such a natural way so seamleess you wouldn't even think it was an added-in detail! I skilled up hard, like, REALLY hard by writing about the same thing, night after night, figuring out what the hell was the next story going to be about. Sometimes there wasn't sex, but most of the time there was. Sometimes there wasn't even any side of eroticism, but most of the time there was.

Indeed, this is the best writing advice I've ever gotten: write about the same thing every single day. I went on a quest to deal with perfectionism... and ended up with the biggest level up to my writing. Honestly, the days in which I couldn't write, which were sick days... They felt like wasted days.

Healed. So far I'm just way too happy about the current events, but also there's quite a lot of uncertainty, and it isn't just me. People are happy, but it still feels bleak. It feels the same as the mechanical healing process of removing the same yeast I got in my mouth: it is a painful process, but after it it feels good. Colonies had to be manually removed with gauze and nystatin just to give way for the tissue to regenerate normally. We are in the same situation. There's a finger wrapped in gauze dripping with nystatin attacking the yeast colonies infecting the powers, and the yeastie boys are responding.

If this is how a transitional government feels like, well... I just pray for the best. i hope for the best. I do see the best happening in the horizon, but then again, nothing moves slower than the government. It took me more than a week to get rid of the yeast in my mouth; but this isn't as simple as a fungal infection. The only thing left to do is to write.

I'll wait until the streets normalize a bit more. Things in Caracas look grim, not because there's violence happening, but rather more of a lack of leadership. Nevertheless, things seem normal. Kids will return to school on Wednesday, so maybe that day everything will feel more normal than now.

@Anek @Syrius Thank you! :welcome:

We skipped D&D after the Saturday events. It was a choice that made sense in the moment, for all of us. And it was a good idea.

I've been procrastinating stuff to the evenings too, so I'm going to see to change that behavior. The water came extremely late though.

Well, there's nothing to do. This uncertainty is bringing the type of boredom you get when you're on holidays on a place where there is absolutely nothing to do... So I fixed my sleep a bit and went earlier to bed. Woke up earlier today too.

It's a tiny step, but you know... I'm easing my way into this. I won't be going to the streets anytime soon, or at least until I see some school kids around. If the students are out and about it means the tension is starting to lower. Thing is classes don't begin until the 7th. Besides, next week is the Divine Shepherdess, so that'll bring millions of people out in the streets, I hope. She was lowered already, so the procession is happening. The State government released a press note about the lowering, so it's happening. Life is just going back to normal. Slowly, but well, it wasn't like that shock we just had on Saturday.

Ok, I think I've had enough holidays so far. I didn't do as much writing as I wished, but I did get revved up into organizing my stuff. I went back to an article talking about tiny books that I read on the 31st of December, and I started to dig a bit in the author's Youtube channel. I do have to push out a story for this Saturday because a contest is opening up, and I also want to write something else to publish. In fact, today's seed was supposed to be a wise men gift to myself, but not only I ended up writing what is the introduction to said story, but also I wrote something that I can strip the stuff that was for me and turn it into an anti Valentine's day story. I do have a lot of ideas, so I need to just dump them all out and pick the few that I can work with.

Wrote 9 poems too, which is far more than I've been doing so far. Two of them were pretty cool haikus, one of which wouldn't look out of place framed at my office, and the other one was more like a dirty text your partner would send you. I don't know what pushed me into writing haikus, but I'll take them. It's been six days so far, and honestly, I like what I'm doing. I don't know what would come out of this, but I am learning something. I know that I am learning something because I can feel it, and I know that more than half of them do have potential. I guess I'm not as bad as I originally though, and I can do this. I know I'm building something because it is also reflecting into my prose. I wrote one poem from the voice of an object, and the next day I wrote on my seedbed a story in which the narrator was the exact same object. All writing is writing, and here there's a feedback happening.

A powercut prevented me from writing my store for longer than 15 minutes which, in retrospect, was more of a blessing than a setback. I performed pretty bad not on poetry, but on storytelling. It was almost as if I had no story to tell yesterday. The day before though was much better, even though I had to push myself out there. I took the chance to also read the very first poem I wrote on the challenge out loud and, you know what, all it needs is some editing, because just that first draft alone makes it feel like something's there. I can actually feel it. I've heard it, and so did my heart because it shivered.

On the other hand I've been procrastinating. I skipped House of the Valkyrie yesterday for no reason. At least I know what's wrong with me in this sense: my mind is just way too hyperactive, and it needs to be pacified. Not through productivity things, or through meditation, or things like that, but through something that just makes the noise shut up. Things that just put the noise into focus, mechanical things. I mean I stopped playing videogames because I no longer can, but there's a reason why I played a lot of them. World of Warcraft, for instance, was pretty repetitive in the sense of playing. Back in the WotLK days, Warlocks were pretty much just a few buttons, same with Paladins, Death Knights, and Mages. I mean, every class has its cycle of play. There's a reason I don't play solo RPGs as much as I like and that's because it requires to activate the brain instead of pacify it. I don't like crocheting, but I like to sew, I just don't have any idea of what to do by hand, because if I did, I might have a few sewing projects in mind. Drawing and coloring are also pacifying. Dancing too, I mean, that's why I love dancing so much, and dacing, just like videogames, is perfect, because silence is, just, the worst thing for me. In silence I can hear my brain rushing from thought to thought to thought to thought, so videogames and dancing were perfect because the music puts a muffle on my inner dialogue, and I always loved drawing with people or while listening to music for the same reason. Silence is terrible; there's just too much noise in my head, so I need something on my ears to shut the inner voice. That's why it's extremely difficult for me to meditate in silence.

But yeah, today I stop the procrastination. Not tomorrow, not in an hour, no, today. I have a lot of things to do, so I'll be tackling those bit by bit.

Also, Venezuelan Goebbels (wish I was joking, but he was compared to him, and the comparison is on point since he used the same propaganda techniques as Goebbels) made the announcement that they'll be starting to release political prisoners. I've heard that there's someone I know in that list that'll be potentially released. This could also mean that the persecution will stop, and whether I was chased or not since 2024, might be a thing that I will never know. Maybe the State of Commotion won't last beyond the 90 days it is legally bound to stay for, much less renewed for another 90 days after the first 90 days are up. It can't be beyond 180 days according to the Constitution, but these guys aren't exactly known for following the laws that they've written, so... It's still too soon to tell, but I feel optimistic on that we're finally heading towards the light at the end of the tunnel.

We might have D&D on Sunday.

70 poems in 10 days! 70!

If someone told me that I would write 70 poems in 10 days 10 years ago, I would've laughed! I can't believe it! I mean, if I keep going like this, I'm going to be on the thousands by the end of the year. Not hundreds, thousands!

How? Why? I mean, I know how and why. It's all about pulp fiction. That's why. The techniques I learned from pulp are working for poetry, and what do you know? Raymond Chandler was a poet too! Even in his style you can see that he was even a poet during his Black Mask days. I don't know. I love this, man. I think I have a new appreciation for writing now. Even though the seedling of today was very disappointing, it was so atmospheric that I know I can do something with it. It's not a bad story, it's just a tree that's a little crooked.

On the other hand, my dad called with, finally, some good news! Apparently, thanks to January 3rd, jobs are starting to open again... for everyone, regardless of age. There's a wave of job openings, and he almost read it all to me like the classifieds, I had to stop him. Told him that the only interest that I have is to be in the book industry or the printing industry. I don't even care if I get a sales position or anything like that, all I wanted is to be in there first, and once I'm in, I'll see what I can do.

I didn't do the Valentine's story as I thought I would, but I needed this week. I mean, last week's shock ruined everything, but I sorta came back to normal. Still, it feels like the walls have ears out of my house. The paranoia will fade away though.

Now I'm a bit sad for the way things are going at the non-profit, and maybe my time there could be over. Honestly, I started to feel disrespect for me building up since a few years back, so my time might be over with them. Am I sad about it? Of course I am. They have issues, but I also did have my failures, so it's not that I'm bitter or egotistical. I know that I failed, and I know in which I've failed, but I also know that they failed to me just as much as I failed to them.

I'm sad, and it's sad, but I don't really mind enough to dwell on it. It feels like I'm making a mistake on not mourning the transition, but the thing is that everything is starting to open up for me this year, like a lot. There's a lot of changes coming to the country, changes that I took for granted happening months after the fall of Mr. Moustache, not a week. Yesterday my dad called me to tell me all about the jobs opening up in the country, and just today I learned that there's a lot of staff moving in the hospitals, as in, foreign workers are being fired to be replaced by locals. So yeah, during my time at the non-profit I learned a lot, but now I want to move to where my oxygen is. As I told my dad, all I care about right now is anything to do with literature. Printing, publishing, research, writing, sales... as long as there are books with more words than numbers, I'm in.

Week 3 (3rd week of the year) Goals:

Just write the story for St. Valentine's. The rest of the goals are merely routine.

D&D sucked! Two players went MIA not because they weren't there at the table, but because the DM casted them aside by splitting the party for the whole session, and I was the only one playing. I've never had such an unengaged session before, and that was just terrible. It ended up feeling more like watching TV instead of playing a game. Even if I was there, I didn't do much.

Anyway, I'm tracking everything that I do during the day too. I feel like I need to know when I'm doomscrolling and stuff, and be sure if I am doing that, or something else. I don't know. I know that I feel like I'm making myself an excuse to procrastinate, and I want to figure it out, hence I'm tracking my hours again.

Well, I've been betrayed.

I already knew about the decision of the directives to close the library. I didn't even have the chance to fight back, and even if I had it, I knew I'd lose the battle. Ultimately, I learned the entire reason for why did they decide to eliminate it, and it hurt even deeper. In fact, it hurt so much that I feel like my own failures pale in comparison. They did the same thing to me as they did to a fellow associated who also poured his heart and soul into a project that has benefited the whole community during a time of crisis when getting drugs was extremely tough due to how expensive and scarce they became, and the streets piled up quite a lot of garbage; projects that are still ongoing to this day. Thing is I always needed help, but nobody came, and when they came, they were always telling me to do the impossible task, and didn't even help me to make the task more possible. I told them many times what I need, and it went unlistened. I've been with the nonprofit for years, and it hurt me that they did this to please a teacher who only came in during the last quarter of 2025. Man, the slogan that our shirts have on the back, I wrote that! I was the one who wrote that in less than five minutes, when they were about to take a whole day to do that. And any project that I had, they always displaced it.

The biggest stabbing was when I learned they boxed the whole library in the morning, while I wasn't present. I only hope that they really took a lot of pleasure in doing that. I hope they did. When I came, I unboxed the whole thing, salvaged the books that I wanted to keep, boxed everything back up, and left it in the same place I put it. When it comes to me, they can go straight to hell. I know when I'm not appreciated, and I decided that my time with them is done for, but I won't quit until they give me the paper. Instead, I'll go on strike. I'll be the person dragging weight, and just stay to watch as the nonprofit starts to dwindle without my input. Unlike my fellow associated, who is now voting against every decision that they make, I'll just stay quiet, and do absolutely nothing. A time will come when they'll realize that they need the library, but once they see that they gave up the books, I won't say anything, and if they want that back, I'll deny the proposal, because it will not be any different. I don't feel any grudge against the teacher, she wasn't at fault. My grudge is against the nonprofit. Treason is anathema to me. But yeah, if they want something written from my, like the slogan, I won't be giving that away for free anymore. I'd be charging my actual fees for it.

Still, I'm not dwelling on it too much. I salvaged the books that I wanted to salvage, and left everything else in those boxes. One copy of John Livingston Seagull that I personally donated for the library is now back in my shelf. Besides, the timing couldn't be better. With many jobs opening up, plus me beginning TCM classes this year, I can now focus exclusively on all of that, especially TCM because I already had my first class. I came in late because of my final work at the library, but I came, and started to learn. I have a lot of research to do too, but since it's beginning, and it hasn't started officially because the new group is just beginning to take shape now. Still, these early lessons give me an edge, and it's quite beautiful. Out of pure accident, because the teacher had to summon it from the more advanced students, I learned already the first point: UB 52, Zhi Shi, Will Power Chamber... Or at least the mention of it.

Not a bad trade-off if you ask me. Plus, I have the feeling that learning TCM is going to make me a better writer too.

There's lots of things to do, and I was stimulated yesterday... but I took on the wrong cues. I was supposed to write 5 chapters of my nanonovel. I ended up being haunted by 2 plot bunnies, and I wrote 2 chapters instead, not because I wrote the plot bunnies, but because I had a lot of cues to follow. One of them was figuring out the Santas, which I could've used those three hours to write. Eventually I started writing, and reading a few stories published, and interacting... I mean, it wasn't like I did unproductive things, because they weren't, it's just that they didn't push the needle forward. But at least the two plot bunnies I've gotten are now tickets to have once I finish the nanonovel? I could write them and publish them anytime, honestly. I just want to do my nanonovel because the contest just opened up, and the earliest I publish, the better chances I have to win. Even though I don't care about winning, I do want to win because I could use the extra cash.

Oh, also, first gold star of the year! And 13 days of writing poems about the same thing... ended up having 97 poems in my first notebook!

I got some nasty writer's block that I broke through after taking a walk... by the end of the day.

It crushed me like hell, I didn't have anything in me. I forced the seedling out, but that was it. And while I did 9 poems after, I don't think I was doing good. But at least I managed to write another chapter... even though I'm being slow now...

I decided to punish myself and killed all the cues that would lead me astray. Unhook is probably the greatest plugin I've gotten for my browser aside from uBlock and ClearURLs. Everything is redirecting to my subscriptions now, and the account I'm using is only subscribed to music channels, so I'll always have music playing, no matter what. I kinda miss the old Internet, where there weren't algorithms nor predatory techniques to get you in the platform. Just things that you have to look for.

But anyway, as predicted, it was also a normal day here. The Divine Shepherdess happened, and it was extremely packed. If I was a runner, I may have ran at six in the morning, with the rest of the runners. It's much less than a half-marathon, but I haven't ran in years, and I don't know if I'll pick it back up or not. Maybe it'll be just as good as walking at dusk?

By the end of it, writing the chapter was the thing that got me out of the writer's block.

Also, another milestone today. Day 14, and I've written 106 poems so far. Too many acrostics too. Took my Bataille pills today again because of the day. Next milestone is Day 30, but 106 poems... My mentor's first book has a little over 60, and I also salvaged another book from the library that has a little over 40 poems too. The one book that compiles a bunch of poems where my home city is the muse has like 150 poems in it, so I'm very much on my way to make like a... 300 page book worth of poems in less than 30 days, if I don't surpass 150 by Day 30. Sure, these are all crap, and first drafts, but hey, the fact that I can write them this fast, and keep pushing out over and over and over and over and over, just trying to improve at least 1% more on each poem... I mean, some of the stuff that I put out in prose requires less and less editing, especially after last year. Just looking into how different my last entry was from the first one already says that I opened up so much...

I think this is good. I'm building something again, and boy, whereas last year was a mansion, I think I'm building a whole neighborhood through poetry.

So 14th was the Divine Shepherdess Day. I'm writing this on the 15th, and today is Teacher's Day. This means I'll be writing a seedling and poems for myself now. To all my colleagues out here, Happy Teacher's Day!

E: Future Sólveig here; I found a math error on the time while I was totaling my numbers for the week. There were 10 minutes missing. Just fixed it.

Short chapters. Full outlines that aren't 100% done. I mean one chapter deviated slightly from what I planned, but on this day... On this day I was quite prolific.

I was at my best when it comes to writing, geting 5K done in 3 hours, and the nanonovel is now on Chapter 7, with 13 chapters left to be fully drafted.

Not a bad day for working. It didn't feel punishing, really, it felt more rewarding. A great day to write. And I say short chapters because they are all going above 750 words, but never going beyond 1100 words. There is a tendency of trying to write them shorter, but I mean... My writing speed has increased. The seedlings are taking me half an hour to write, and it's double the amount of words I handwrote back during the previous challenge. Each story was roughly 500 words. Now, they are between 890 and 1100 words, but the time is the same.

It wasn't as productive. You win some, you lose some. I thought I'd move the needle forward a bit more, but I'm getting the job done. I might only do half of the nanonovel this week, by the look of things...

Still, 9/20 is not too bad. But I still need to prepare for D&D, even though I don't know if that's still green or not.

I'll try to split my attention in two this time. I moved some bookmarks, and Unhook is still on its highest settings. And, you know what? I'm closing off Discord too, and dropping those bookmarks into places that I won't ever visit. I'll check the Hive later.

D&D got cancelled. I was planning it while also doing House of the Valkyrie, but it got cancelled. I split House of the Valkyrie into doing one level, then 10 minutes of prep, then another level, then another 10 minutes, and then another level. I could've used that time to write three more chapters instead, but well, it doesn't matter. I'm 12/20 done with the nanonovel, and also using my increment to my writing speed as a way to gauge how long it'll take me to have writing sessions. Now, I did have a lower number of poems today, and that's for two reasons: the first one I was extremely inspired earlier today to write poems before the seedling. Thing is, I wrote the seedling first, and proceeded to go with the novel instead to go for my cravings for poetry, because I was still booming with desire to write them. I didn't do it. The second reason is that, while I did rescue my inspiration, the poems were much longer today, breaking even more the rules I set out to myself. But it's getting somewhere. I actually like them on one hand, an I feel like I got them out of my system on the other.

So yeah, I stimulated today. I drank coffee, sent all the distracting bookmarks into hell temporarily, closed off Discord, put it on Do Not Disturb, and had my phone in silence. I did nothing but write for the most part, and it worked to the point that I wanted to keep writing, like I'm not even tired right now. I got 5K done today once again, and I'm still in the mood to write.

What else can I say? I love this. I love having projects being pushed out with the purpose of actually sending them out to be published, and I actually love that I'm on my way to be part of the million-word-a-year club of pulp writers; a feat I thought is impossible, but seeing that I'm even beating motherf*cking Stephen King when it comes to just writing like I have a gun in my temple about to go off if I don't type... Then again, King is nothing compared to the pulpsters who did 10K a day, and in just this week alone, in two days, I managed to reach half of that. 5K one day, 5K on another day. Now it feels like it's no longer about the possibilities of doing that or not, but how do I get there. It's a muscle that it's being trained, and damn, I'm training it in the same way I trained myself to do Burpees, something that I think this week has increased, which means I'll probably be back to it this year.

What a way to start the year, man, what an impressive way to start the year! The thing that's impressing me the most is that I AM NOT TIRED OF WRITING! I want to keep going, and going, and going...

126 poems in 17 days... A whole nanonovel in half of the time that it took me to write the first one... It took me ten years to reach to this point, and I just wonder... where the hell this capabilities come from? I know progress isn't a straight line, but I wasn't aware on how far I'd come until I did the last year's challenge, and noticed how my drafts required less and less editing, and now... my writing speed is increasing, I'm working smarter when it comes to writing, I'm applying all the techniques of pulp fiction, and I'm giving myself not one step, not two steps, but a whole double marathon worth of distance as an advantage with them, while simultaneously I'm still learning, and I'm writing even in the most unexpected places. I drafted half of a novel while taking a sh*t in the bathroom; I've written stuff while I was bedridden last year during several nights! I've fallen asleep on top of my writing supplies after doing an entry of the 365 in bed! It happened to me once mid sentence!

When the hell did everything turned so... right?! This NEVER happened to me with music! I... I don't know what to say, this is just awesome! It's like I don't feel like an impostor anymore.

[W]eekly [A]ccountability [M]eeting

  • Writing: 7 days, 22798 words, 880 minutes
  • Burpees: 2 days, 60 Burpees
  • 1 day of reading

  • Writing the Same Thing Every Day for a Year: 7 days, 2275 words, 56 poems, 220 minutes
  • Seedbed: 7 days, 6897 words, 210 minutes
  • Valentine's Nanonovel: 5 days, 13555 words, 449 minutes, 12 chapters
  • Ideas: 1 day, 71 words, 1 minute, 1 idea

I thought I'd work on the evenings, but I didn't. Still, it doesn't matter. Not everyone can say they did 60% of their project in 5 days, and I take a lot of pride on that. I want to keep improving, to keep writing faster, to keep doing broad strokes, yet doing that with style. I did 5 more poems this week, I had more words on my seedlings, even taking a walk didn't stop me from writing. Looking into the stats, I've reached 36051 words in 17 days. This week I wrote for 14 hours and 40 minutes, and so far I've written for 1 day, 1 hour, and 3 minutes. And it's getting faster.

Last year's pilgramage towards the million-word-a-year Altar at the peak of the mountains I only managed to get to the 412663th step. I want to keep pushing forward, and this time I'm better than last year, because on my way up to that pilgramage, at this point on last year, I've only reached the 14285th step. This time I'm at the 36051th step, in one day less too.

As for the score, no, I'm not using it to punish myself. It should be 60, but because I didn't do the whole routine thing, I lowered it to 57 because I missed 3 tasks. That's completely ok. They aren't urgent, and I'm coming from an unrated place. It's only a single goal that I'm focusing on. The rest are just ways to either lower the score if I don't get to them but I reached the main goal, or increase the score if I did the main goal, but I still need an extra push. It's only a metric to evaluate my performance, and it isn't there as a way of punishment or reward. It's just a way to see how much I've done, and use that as a compass to keep the focus on the important tasks, or to gauge what's my focus on. This doesn't mean that I'm a failure, this just means I'm putting too much attention to writing.

Week 4 (4th week of the year) Goals:
  • End the Valentine's Day draft
  • Start a new draft before finishing the Valentine's Day draft
  • Edit the Valentine's Day draft and submit it as quickly as possible
All remaining goals are routine.

Writing dropped. It's just been... a busy three days, and my mind isn't in the exact place. I don't know if it's either having too much dopamine, or I'm tired, not from writing, but from the stuff that happened. Already catched up with my therapist on one hand, which is awesome. Plenty of distractions, but still... It's just some lows, and I'm still making poems. the day thar I dropped 186 words on poetry alone, but with 10 poems in it... Yeah, that was because I suddenly decided to not go after the next page, and instead fill in the blank space with poems that had less, and less, and less syllables. There was even one that was 2 - 3 - 4 - 3 - 2. That's how I'm producing more poems with less words. Though today was just 7 poems, but more words. These dips I don't mind. I'm doing as many poems as I can in 30 minutes. I would rather have 20 short poems drafted in 30 minutes than have 2 fully, pristine, ready to be published poems in 30 minutes. Again, story 1 requires a lot of work; story 365 doesn't.

I also got a new phone; f*cking finally! 8 years with my old phone, and after I change the battery and put a big SD card in it, I'll use it as an MP3 player / watch / eBook reader. It has no SIM card, and I can just cut it off from everything but Bluetooth. The new phone... I haven't put the data from my old phone there yet, which is... just a few character sheets, Markdown files, and whatnot. Having a camera back also means I can draw again, and I also downloaded ibis Paint X because... why not? Why shouldn't I? I don't have a stylus, but why don't I draw with my finger like it's fingerpainting? Of course, it requires learning new techniques, but come on... People have been drawing on the Super Nintendo with a Mouse on Mario Paint... People have been drawing on MS Paint with a Mouse; I've seen amazing drawings from the old times done on Paint with just a Mouse. People have been drawing with ASCII characters even on SMSs back in the 00s! I was one of them! I've even seen someone make a piece of art with a typewriter a long time ago!

It's a matter of practicing the medium. It's going to be a new way to learn, and I don't mind. I actually want to learn this because I know which parts of the brain are engaged.

There was quite a rebirthing today. The purchase did a whole lot more for me than anything, and I'm already seeing an ROI before putting my first word in Obsidian on my new phone. I still need to transfer all the books too. There's still job to be done, but damn...

God damn, I got distracted! Something's pulling me, and that's just an idea for writing. I already put it to rest and decided to keep it on the low for a while. I'm going to do a strange writing exercise starting tomorrow, so my word count could increase, but this isn't exactly something I'm doing for others. This one is for me, not for the reasons of writing, but for reasons about my own relationship with myself.

On the other hand, I'm seriously considering get into the million-word-a-year club. If I can draft roughly 900 to 1000 words in half an hour, I don't see a reason why not to try. All I need is 100 days to do 10K and that's it, a million words. That's roughly two days a week doing 10K. 1000 words in half an hour means 10K in 5 hours. With a little bit of planning, and a smart use of dead time instead of free time, I can easily do this without any trouble. I'm already halfway there, and I don't have to spend all days writing 10K, but with two is enough, and then maybe, just maybe, I'll slowly squeeze out a day or another for it. It just depends, but hey, if I can write 365 stories doing 1 daily, with each being roughly 500 words, I can do this. That reminds me I should finish my spreadsheet.

Still, it's fine. Some days are victories, other days are losses. Today was a loss, but it's a loss that I could mitigate.

What a week, man. Even though I produced 78 poems, advanced my project to Chapter 17/20, randomly started a new 365 that's happening right after wake up, just putting two poems on my phone, or how much I can come up with in such a short span, and also getting attacked by ideas on the street, but this time having a notepad to catch it...

It was a very busy week. My brain couldn't focus, even when I wanted to write the most, my body rejected it. Plans got tossed every day, time shrunk in so many days... It was one of those busy weeks; the ones that I had back in 2024 before the whole year went FUBAR. I gave myself a hard deadline this time: 28th. I have to make it until the 28th, or just say goodbye into being in the contest.

Today Battleground begins. Valkyrie went away this week because, again, it was just so packed tight... I still have something urgent to do tomorrow.

Week 5 (5th week of the year) Goals:

JUST FINISH THAT DAMNED NOVEL AND SEND IT!

Ok, finally, there's just been a lot of pressure, but I think I released some of it today. It took me far longer than I thought, but I finished my nanonovel, and all I need is to edit it as quickly as I can to send it off and start the next new thing. There are things distracting me, and I think I know what they are. I swear, I went into so many little rabbit holes today, one of which made me scream out of a first problem I have. Yes, I said that, and I'm going to say that it is a huge improvement considering how it's been two years of "should I hide under my bed?" or "am I being chased?" so it's very refreshing to switch that off to complain about being too tall for an average woman, thus not finding clothes that fit me, thus fitting with the other girls who also are in the same predicament because all bodies are different. It was validating, but it made me hate my height, a thing that I love, for a moment. But yeah, having at least one first world problem is so much better than before... I honestly felt really grateful for that annoyance, because again, compared to other things, I would take anything that's a nuisance over something that induces paranoia for years.

I'll take it as a level up.

Speaking about level ups, I figured out why I had to use a middle man (a cloud storage) to transfer my Markdown files from the computer to my old phone without a wire. It was a hardware issue, but not from my computer, but the phone itself. I tried transfering a file into my new phone today, and it went well. So I transfered my whole WIP to it, and now I'm having things way easier to sync files without the Internet, and without using a cable because I just don't want to use a cable. I don't know exactly why my old phone refused to receive Markdown files, but it doesn't matter anymore. I'm using Obsidian on the new phone, and I'm having a ball writing poems in the morning over there, limiting myself to 160 characters.

If I can write more than poetry now, who knows? Maybe I can do much better than what I've been doing. I also sent the whole phone novel I finished at the computer into the phone, so now it's back in its rightful place.

It's actually pretty great you can see and acknowledge personal progress like that! So many things may seem small or insignificant when looking from outside without context when in reality they are very meaningful, even if the 'level up' reveals itself in an unexpected form. It's hard to see that sometimes though, especially through ups and downs that come with the rollercoaster of a life, so kudos for a good spot :click: Yea tech sometimes malfunctions cause why not, as long as a workaround can be found that's a win xD

I'm curious about your poems, you write a lot (subjective I know). Do you have a set theme or do you just write whatever the muses bring at the moment?

@Joi If you click on the link of the challenge, you'll see that I'm writing about the same thing every single day, so the theme is fixed. I, however, don't write when inspiration strikes. I'm a pulp writer, which means I work on deadlines rather than inspiration. As for the ones I write on a 160-character restriction... The topic of them is also fixed, but it is different.

Well, what do you know? My laptop broke this morning. The thing is that I neglected to backup my seedlings, but I know that the problem is not on the data side, that part is safe. I'm just locked out of it.

It's the fan. Again. The same issue it had four years ago. Now I can't afford to fix it right now, so it'll have to wait. The good thing is that I have the rest backed up, plus I have my WIP on my phone. All I need is another computer to access my backup, which I know someone who can help me with that. My log however is not up to date, so I won't be adding data to the spreadsheet.

I can still write and edit though.

I'm really having a hard time editing things. I miss my spreadsheets on the other hand... I reached a milestone, and I can't even see how much I've done! Just today was 22 poems in 49 minutes. If I'm doing one poem every 60 seconds then damn...

Arcade is done, and I haven't figured out what challenge to do next. I forgot to put my badge; I've abandoned the Hive since the computer broke...

Also, I accidentally did Surya Namaskar today instead of the DD, so I did the DD after.
