Hello hive,
I feel like I am currently in a good place to try some new things and that a check-in threat might help to actually do it.
I am living in a different city for a while (2 more months now) and have quite a bit more free time than usual. While being away from my usual friends, chores and past times feels weird, it is enjoyable as well in a way!

EDIT:
My movement-related goals for my 2 weeks of winter break:
1) go outside during daylight hours and take a walk every day (I enjoy going out to get fresh air, but the days can feel so short this time of the year)
2) check out the Exercise and Workout of the Day daily and do at least one of them

3) do at least 2 workouts with weights in the one week where I will have access to them
4) pick & start a new program or challenge
5) log in to community.darebee on my phone and ad shortcut to remind myself

Thanks for al welcoming messages! I have used darebee resources for years and it feels good to also do something with the community aspect now :happy:


What I have done today:

Morning
1 set of Story Mode (WotD)
Went outside during daylight hours ✅

Afternoon
Short short walk (it was already dark and very windy :()
30 second elbow plank hold (EotD)
60 second plank hold (is it just called that, if you do straight arms?)

Evening
I picked out the following things to do during my winter break:
- as a warmup or as little breaks after hanging on the couch in wonky positions for too long: Universal Warmup Workout, Rotator Cuff Workout, Back Pain Relief Workout and maybe Posture Workout
- challenge to start: Recomp Challenge
It is tempting to pick out more! But I am staying with family for a few days and try to stay realistic :angel:

I closed the day yesterday with Universal Warmup before brushing my teeth in the evening. Felt good to move shoulders and back after an evening on the sofa.

What I did today:
Walk in the morning, around 2 km in sunlight and -1 degree celcius ✅
With some knee-ups, butt-kicks and side-steps mixed in on an empty stretch of footpath.

Before lunch
2 repeats of Back Pain Relief
1 minute Wall sit (EotD)
Day 1 of Recomp Challenge (push ups and squats)

Apparently 6 successive pushups are on the edge of what my arms can do atm. First set i was able to finish in good form, second set i took a little break in the middle, third set i finished on my knees. It was frustrating at first but now i'm happy that i picked this challenge 😁

Afternoon
Another walk, this time with company.

2x deadhang to failure on a less-than-perfect edge

Today
1 set of Christmas Rockout before breakfast
Made me notice that I still really dislike the feeling of exercise/jumping on an empty stomach

90% of the Posture Workout

I was outside during daylight hours, but by the time i convinced others to take a walk with me, the sun was already going down :sweat:

Didnt manage to do the challenge yet but might still get around to it later.

Took another walk in the evening yesterday because I got a tension headache. Im unsure if that was mainly caused by sleeping on a unsuitable matress for a few days or if it was more related to doing too little or not the right exercises. Or some mixture of that?

I could go back to doing a the neck/back/shoulder exercises from a specific youtube channel that I used to do. But if I remember correctly those videos started to really annoy me, even though doing 15-20 mins of that daily was quite effective.

Today was a weird day. I was outside and I walked, but 100% of that was with luggage. Good for having moved my body but not very helpful for relaxing my back and shoulders. I did spent a really enjoyable time reading Gideon The Ninth while on the train though!

Anyhow, did some more pleasant type of moving now that I arrived at my destination:
1 Set of Walk It Off (WotD)
Rolled my back on Blackroll
2 x 30 sec Balance Hold (EotD)

Recomp Challenge day 3: did the squats without problems, but really struggled with the pushups. Basically started with 5 knee pushups to warm up but only managed a few normal pushups after. Decided to do a few bonus squats and 1 set of Mighty Snail Workout instead. Not sure if I should continue the challenge or pick another one. Maybe I will try to do 30 pushups spread put over a day later this week and see if that is managable.

Also agreed on a time to work out with equipment with a friend tomorrow :happy:

Throat is still a bit sensitive, but it didnt turn into a full blown cold so far. Yay for that! :welcome: Will continue to keep calm, and drink lots of warm tea.

Today I dealt with tension headache again. This time it was there after waking up and it took me most of the morning to get rid of it. I find it difficult not to get too annoyed over "losing" part of a day to that, but I feel like I managed ok-ish. I used a longtime favorite playlist to motivate myself to put down a mat and move a bit, before taking pain medicine and going back to bed with a heat pad.

- 20-ish minutes of gentle warm up, mobilization and stetches. Including upward downward dog from the day before (EotD).
- being outside in daylight ✅
- cycling 2 x 15 minutes
- walking (with light backpack, so not ideal for back :p)
- more shoulder circles etc in between.

Thinking about what I want to do when my winter break ends next weekend.
For now I think doing Universal Warmup every morning for the next 3 months (2 more months of living abroad and first month back home) would be a nice base. I did that 2 mornings already so I could just keep going.
The Water First Challenge also sounds really helpfull rn, because living in a different place where I dont have the kitchen right next to my room, really made me fall out of the habit. Will also start that straight away and will draw myself a chart to put checkmarks on (easier than printing something rn).

Will decide later on something to add on to that, to start next tuesday (since i have acrobatics group training on mondays).

Cycling (instead of walking) outside before sundown ✅

Went to the climbing gym with a friend, which was a really good idea. I completed 5 out of 6 routes started, if I remember correctly. I'm really satisfied because I climbed and secured in both lead and toprope and also practiced falling/jumping of the wall :welcome:

I will count going to the climbing gym as one of my planned workouts with weights/equipment, since it feels like the equivalent of a tough Pull Workout. Plan to do a Push Workout tomorrow.

First day without posting yesterday and going to the gym also didn't work out! I'm a bit disappointed, but mainly because I do kinda like that gym and I don't have a place like that in the town where I live temporarily. But anyways, doing Universal Warmup in the mornings is a really good thing for me. This morning it felt like it cleared up any tension in my upper and lower back straight away :cool:

Jumping Jacks in the snow during my lunchbreak, that was the most of being outside in daylight that I got :sus:

This evening
Better Legs Day 6 (side leg raises) and Plank (EotD) during my nearly 2 hours of Acrobatics training! Even though I had to cycle through snow to get there :p

Also also: I really don't like doing leg raises anymore and the challenge feels quite boring to me at the moment. I will still finish it though! I wanted to add a new goal or challenge after the winter break as well, but currently I'm stuck being undecided. I would like to start a program with mandatory running, but at the same time I don't know how to fit it in, since my daily rhythm in regards to work and meals is kinda dependent on other people at the moment. And a too empty or too full stomach bothers me way more with running than with other exercise.
But yay, writing this down has helped already. I will start Upperbody and Core Challenge tomorrow!

I completely forgot about anything darebee related yesterday evening, so I didnt do my challenges. Since this will most likely not be the the last time this happens and since I think it unlikely that I will forget it two days in a row, I decided to just forgive myself and move on.

Neck Mobility Workout (can be done seated, this one could be nice for breaks at the office. Too little involvement of the shoulders for me so I should combine it with other things)
Rotator Cuff Workout (nice addition to the one mentioned before! I like that it is timed instead of counted, less need to concentrate when my head is already tired)

Upperbody and Core Challenge Day 7/30 (push ups & plank, 7 pushups on first set!)
5-Minute Mobility Workout

Challenges today done as a sort of mini circuit, with some minutes distraction between each round. A minute rest turns into 5 so easily 😅 This is why I usually prefer working out in a designated place like a gym with other peopl around.

Yesterday before bed I took a peek at the execise videos that @colin posted. And then I had to try the first exercise... and then I did almost the whole video, even though I took some shortcuts. Maybe slow controled calistenics style stuff is something I could do more often, it was fun 😀

Bouldering yesterday was fun and it was good to try working out directly after work for once! BUT... I was so tired in the evening. I think that this caused not really being able to make good decision's anymore. Which led to forgetting and procrastinating several things in the evening which led to me being late at work today and not being able to concentrate in the morning...
