"I get out of bed at 5am"
I have a katana, a 1.5h Tai Chi sword and a tai chi sabre, each weigh about 2.5 lbs.
My Tai Chi weapons have mostly just solo practice and not sharp so no cutting. My katana is not cutting sharp.
When I did Aikido and Kenjutsu there was much partner practice but only hard wood bokken, wakizashi, 2 tanto and a jo staff.
We use a rented hall with a concrete floor for a private Aikido weapons practice group, one time we did get some live blades and hundreds of plastic water bottles that we filled with water for our cutting. We chose from 5 different katana each time to see which felt the best. After cutting a bottle you can check how straight a cut, a slight wave at the end in the cut would say it wasn't a good cut. There was no drain hole so there was a lot of mopping up to do.
I have exercised with my Tai Chi swords since 1979 and only did Aikido and Kenjutsu for 4 years (8+ hours a week Dojo training, then the daily home solo practice). My Tai Chi straight sword can be held with two hands but mainly used with one as in Tai Chi forms practice.
