Hi Darebees,

I am getting back into running by training for a half marathon, which of the programs for strength is ideal to complement my running?

Hi @wamari !

DAREBEE has a 1/2 Marathon Training Program that includes both running days and strength training days. I encourage you to have a look at that and see if it meets your needs.

Alternatively, if you already have your running schedule worked out and are just looking for an additional strength-training program to complement it, the best thing to do would be to look through the various strength training programs and choose one that's at the right level for you. There's no one size fits all correct answer here, because we're all at different fitness levels. The perfect level of workout for one person will be too easy for someone else, yet too much or too difficult for yet another person.

I would recommend you avoid any programs that include high impact exercises (high knees or any kind of jumping) because you'll already be doing a lot of that with your running. Check out the Add-On Programs as these are designed to be programs you can pick up alongside another main training activity while minimizing the risk of overtraining. Power Up I think would be a good choice, as it contains no high impact moves, and the workouts are relatively short. (I believe the longest is 12 minutes.) Training for a half marathon is time-consuming, so you'll likely want any add-ons to be short workouts. And Power Up has a strong focus on tendon strengthening, which would be a good compliment for running. But as I wrote above, the best choice really is a personal one, based on where you're at in your own fitness journey.
