I just hate spiders so much. Went to grab my mat and yoga blocks, when I found a spider on the stairs. It had the nerve to act surprised to see me. I’m in my house! To me, this is like walking in on a burglar and then acting surprised.
Sun salutations were pretty fast paced since I was following my breath and I did it right after the walking workout. I don’t typically do three-legged dog anymore.
I had to modify the side planks in the Yoga with Adriene workout by doing elbow side plank with only one leg extended. It was very brief. Side planks were never my strong suit, even when it’s modified. But it feels like I’m getting more flexible. It felt like I could go deeper in forward fold. I’ve always been able to touch my toes, but never could fold that much. There were a few moments I where I noticed the difference in my flexible and worried about overextension, but nothing felt forced or off.
Still have to work on breathing when I’m following videos. It’s easier to do with sun salutations because I’ve done it so often. It was one of the first yoga sequences I’ve ever done. I intended to end my practice with moon salutations, but Fonzie had been pretty much upset with me the entire YWA workout, and I didn’t want to make him wait for me even longer.
Probably wasn’t a good idea to do an almost 30-minute belly dance video, but it was slow enough it wasn’t bad. Might repeat it the rest of the weekdays, then go back and do basics.
Edited because I forgot the end of a sentence. This is what happens when I forget an anecdote, try to add it in, and have to do something else.

This previous week was emotionally exhausting for me. The yoga twists just didn’t feel right for me so I quit early. I had planned on doing a moon salutation practice (I found a video I think I will like much better!) but I didn’t really have energy to pull through it.
My flexibility has, for the most part, improved A LOT. Obviously there are days where I don’t feel flexible at all, but that happens. I did expect flexibility to improve, just not this quickly. Quite a bit of my practice has been bedtime or restorative yoga to keep my streak up. It probably helps that I usually do a walking workout first. I am just SO glad I decided to put my yoga practice first
I’ve had Message in a Bottle stuck in my head for a few days. Usually if I listen to a song again, I can get it unstuck and I decided to get a mini workout in with it.
Slacked on belly dancing last week. Maybe a couple more days and I’ll just be trying the actual dance part and not the practice steps… we’ll see…
Rolo has been doing real well! He’s back to his old game of put-the-ball-under-the-furniture-and-bark-my-head-off-like-I-can’t-reach-it-even-though-it’s-right-there full force. Got him a bigger ball on Sunday to try to minimize that. It’s not exactly what I wanted to get him. I wanted one he could carry but our Walmart did not have a sturdy enough ball like that in the pet section. We ended up with a small ball from the toy section that will probably get torn up pretty quickly, but for now is fine. He was running around the house like a madman with that thing! And there were a lot of flaws in the plan. He can still go in between and behind furniture with it, and it’s small enough to get wedged other some pieces of furniture. I had to end up taking it away from him because he wouldn’t quite running around with it. If he didn’t get overheated so easily it wouldn’t be a problem, but my baby was panting really hard. I’d planned to give it back to him on Monday, but he seemed a little off that morning/early afternoon. So I decided to have him go without the ball that day. I also gave him another half of a pill at bedtime to make sure he wasn’t hurting from the day before.
We also have a lot of balls in our backyard for him. He used to love running around in circles with the ball, but he hasn’t done that in forever. He finally did it again! He didn’t overdo it that time.
Also took a picture of the sunrise on my phone because it was gorgeous. It turned out even better on camera! It picked up yellows that I couldn’t see in person! I am now filled with an almost irresistible urge to paint it. I’ve never really properly painted something, so I’m not too comfortable with that, but it will likely be something I’ll try to do in the near future.
Liam prefers smaller balls that fit in his mouth, so they roll under the sofas, too. He will try to get it, then look sadly at whomever is above him and pout. The real trick is getting the ball without having your hair nibbled on!
@JCU Rolo pretty much likes any ball, but does like to carry them around. We have a tennis ball that he ignores, though. There is the rolling problem, which is accidental, but he will literally shove them under chairs and shelves. Sometimes he’ll place it under a table where he can easily reach it, yet he’ll still want us to get it for him. Sometimes when I get up to get it, he’ll grab it and run. He’ll come collect me if his ball gets stuck, which is so cute. Get aggravating after the first couple of times. And he will pounce on hands if you don’t manage to get him far enough away while you’re getting it for him. Not fun!

I didn’t feel like doing the whole dance video, so I just did the warm up, the dance routine, and part of the cool down. Practiced a few of the moves in the mirror before bed and noticed the first moves look really awkward. A full body mirror where I dance would be helpful, but I don’t actually want to get one… nevertheless, tomorrow I’ll try to focus on the first dance move! There are a few other moves I should practice in the mirror, too, and other moves I need to practice in general.

Spontaneous quick shopping with sis before lunch. Found an Eiffel Tower canvas picture with rhinestone accents on it. It’s so pretty (and I might have a teeny obsession with the Eiffel Tower) so guess who owns the picture?
Sis is going to be printing my sunrise picture on a canvas. She also showed me something my aunt made out of flower pots that she says she knows I can make. This lead to a Pinterest rabbit hole of adorable flower pot crafts. She wants me to make some to sell on Etsy.
After having lunch leftovers for dinner, I didn’t feel too well so I skipped dancing.

Gator. My sweet, sweet baby. Thinks he has to do yoga with me sometimes. Lately he’s just been on the mat with me. I can handle that. But today? In tabletop, a couple seconds away from transitioning to downward dog? He climbs on my back! He used to do this a lot but hasn’t in a while, so I was due. I was definitely stuck in tabletop for a while. Transitioning to downward dog with a cat on your back is not going to end well. Then during one of the half moon poses, he climbs on my side. Balancing was difficult enough, and if you add at least a 10 pound cat to that? Guys.
My plan was to work on belly dance basics while also doing actual dances. So far that hasn’t been what’s happening. I do try to sneak a little bit of basics practice throughout the day, though. I feel like I’m getting the moves more this time around, but speed is difficult. So I’ve been trying to follow along with the video the best I can and then practice the full dance without the video a few times.
Also forgot to say I have been doing wrist strengthening exercises regularly. I’ve gotten to the point where I can go without the yoga blocks under my hands for a little bit! Progress! Of course, the blocks are always within reach and I’ll use them if my wrist gets too uncomfortable.
@NancyTree I would have kept it, but my watch didn’t record an increase in heart rate. I think because of how I keep my phone on my now. It’s in a phone crossbody bag instead of a fanny pack*. So my phone moved a lot during the shimmy.
When I was much younger than I am now, I read an American book where it said that a man patted his wife on the fanny. I must confess to having been a little appalled - this wasn't supposed to be one of those books! Years later, I learnt that 'fanny' is American for 'bottom' (which made that book a bit more child-friendly!). We use it to refer to the front part of the pelvis. And it still makes me giggle a little.
@NancyTree I might see how it gets logged when I’m wearing the old fanny pack. If it still gives me a big difference in heart points (forgot to mention it, but it was a 19-point difference!) then I won’t keep the phone on me while I’m dancing.
Vaccination day. Got the flu vaccine and another COVID booster in the same arm. I planned on doing yoga because it said easy breezy, it was short, and I thought it would be fine. Not really. I did some modifications because there was no way I was going to attempt a side plank today! Practiced chaturanga instead.
