  • The kittens have been exploring again
  • Neither knows what to do with the Christmas tree
  • It's hysterical
  • I'm worried about the ornaments we will be putting up tomorrow
  • And we've all agreed that bows and ribbons will wait until day of
  • I am envisioning trails and empty spots around the presents for all three cats
  • It'll be Casper's first year without the gating around the tree, too!
  • Good: got that tree up without issue!
  • Happier (working toward Happy): they. shared. a. seat. IN THE FAMILY ROOM!!

Loving the fact that you enjoyed the Nutcracker. It's my favorite ballet.

  • Very lazy day, surprisingly
  • Mom and Dad have been decorating, but I tend to leave that to them
  • Mom's background is in interior decorating; she has the best visions!
  • Does anyone else change colors every year?
  • The tree is family ornaments, but everything else changes
  • White, silver, and gold this year!
  • Even the tortoise was interested in the tree skirt!
  • Nobu has been sleeping on it today
  • We'll see who joins him in the coming weeks!
  • Good: indulged in some sweets
  • Happy (ish): Nobu is allowing elevated cuddling! He was just in my arms, purring away!
  • Tortoise eating; Nobu curious; weight wise, the tortoise is more than double!

(Does anyone else find it amusing that the kittens are smudges of shadow when pictures with... anything else?)

  • We decorated the tree last night
  • Nobu has found several of the low hanging ornaments already
  • But we made sure to put soft, unbreakable ornaments there
  • So it's okay!
  • And he hasn't tried to climb it yet, so that's a plus, too!
  • When the tortoise explored around the tree yesterday she left a surprise
  • Poop
  • That she smeared

  • That was washed this morning!

  • Good: wrapped Dad's presents!

  • It's not always been a good day, but it's not been bad
  • Tomorrow's "fun"
  • Seeing Tyler, immediately followed by Casper's annual vet visit, squeezing in lunch, finish with Bee
  • I will definitely be taking a Hall Pass
  • At least I see them, though
  • My poor back...
  • The kittens are choosing sides
  • Nox will jump onto the sofa, but if I try to pet, he runs
  • He'll run anyway if something catches his attention
  • Mom sits down? Kitten comes to visit
  • Nobu, though
  • Oh, my little shadow!
  • And he purrs like a running motor!
  • Speaking of kittens:
  • New insta!
  • Good: siblings!
  • Happy (ish): Nobu tried to play with my frizz. I had a kitten on my head very briefly!

  • Took a Hall Pass
  • Meant to exercise after Mom came home so we could watch Colbert together
  • Fell asleep and Mom was quiet enough for my nap to last two and a half hours
  • So I just wasn't up to raising my heart rate too much!
  • Nobu is interesting
  • The flushing toilet?
  • That has bothered every other warm blooded pet I've had?
  • Ignores it entirely
  • So I have an incredibly curious kitten who explores everything if he can join me in the bathroom
  • But he lets me hold him for cuddles
  • So it balances out!
  • (And the unblinking focus on the sink when I brush my teeth is hysterical)
  • Black cats may be voids of darkness
  • But white cats in the darkness? With blown pupils to see? Voids instead of eyes? Horrifying!
  • (It's awesome!)
  • (We need to fix the light upstairs. It gets... interesting depending on which cat you run into)
  • Good: apparently I really needed that nap!
  • Happy (ish): I did almost nothing today. It was delightful.

  • I have spent a good part of this day safeguarding Casper
  • He is under my blanket with me
  • The kittens have wanted to play
  • Nox runs easily
  • Nobu allowed cuddles!
  • So not bad!
  • One of my sets in Fit December did not include pushups
  • Nobu wanted attention, so I cuddled him as I completed the lunges and calf raises
  • I accept that loss easily!
  • Eating red meat this week to increase my iron for the blood donation next Saturday
  • Not the most fun week I go through
  • At least I make the menu and can dictate what type of red meat we're eating
  • (Very, very dead. No red or pink as far as I can see!)
  • Good: got to go grocery shopping; didn't think that was going to happen today!
  • Happy: NOBU TRILLS! IT'S THE CUTEST THING EVER!
  • Nobu was feeling playful!

  • Thought I'd take two days for that, but was able to push through!
  • (Kittens helped. Lots.)
  • Casper spent two hours on my lap and I still felt guilty getting up
  • Almost had an issue when Nobu jumped up to check him out
  • I did not need a cat fight on my lap
  • All was well, thankfully!
  • Bills won!
  • Good: exercised! (It was very late by my standards)
  • Happy (ish): kittens. faucet. biting water. (video to come!)

  • My glutes and knees are not happy with the side kicks
  • I may take a Hall Pass tomorrow
  • More kitten drama:
  • Casper was under the blanket and Nobu was curious
  • Casper was growling when Nobu was just on top of the blanket
  • I did not want that fight on my legs!
  • So I had to pull Nobu away from my lap multiple times
  • (He's smart, though! Knows exactly where to get under!)
  • Both kittens are using the tree skirt as a bed!
  • Kittens. Faucets. Adorable!
  • Good: chores were completed
  • Happy (ish): bought most of my Christmas presents!

Bowl = cross contamination. In nature, cats drink far upstream from where they eat, and eat away from water sources because instincts know what contamination is, even if the brain doesn't comprehend it like ours does, and poop far away from both, which is not only to prevent cross-contamination, but an act of self-preservation from larger predators. So, in the home, a cat would rather drink from a running water source, like a faucet, eat from a lower elevation to their drinking source, and poop in a protected place far from both.

  • Very interesting, @OJJJEM! The only part I disagree with is the elevation of food; the tortoise will eat their food if it's on the ground, so they eat from higher than the water

  • According to Bernice, it's the lateral hamstring tendon that's hurting!
  • Super helpful to have a friend who knows anatomy better than you...
  • I purposely did not much today
  • Hopefully my knees will be better tomorrow!

  • Something fun to watch out for!

  • @NancyTree: we bought the kittens a fountain and they love it, but still drink out of the bowls, too
  • The more water they drink, the better!
  • Basics
  • Knees are much better!
  • The arm work in Fit December definitely helped
  • All three cats were in moods earlier
  • I don't often speak in a southern accent, nor use southern idioms
  • (I spent most of my teen summers in Nashville and it  stuck)
  • But these boys? They pulled out a full 'all-a y'all's'
  • Herding cats is an absolutely accurate expression
  • Not been feeling great (sinus infection is attempting to take root)
  • So I'm medicating and relaxing as much as possible
  • I will not miss my donation on Saturday!
  • Good: beat the craving for excess sugar
  • Happy: Nobu. My kitten. My baby. My devil. He had me almost crying from happiness. He doesn't curl on laps, not even next to them. He was under the blanket next to me. Purring away. There were tears in my eyes.

  • Trying to readjust my sleep schedule is not
  • Four and a half hours last night!
  • So there was some caffeine
  • But no nap!
  • Oh my sweet kittens
  • (And by sweet I mean little devils in disguise, the way all kittens should be)
  • Nobu curled between my legs last night
  • Then decided the laundry basket was his new favorite place this afternoon
  • As I was filling it with clean clothes 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • He does like being carried it in, though!
  • Casper hates that
  • My back is letting me know the week we still have before seeing Tyler is not great
  • So that's fun
  • Hoping a good night's sleep will help
  • Good: only a cup of tea and can of soda for caffeine
  • Happy: look at these kittens!

  • Super tired from resetting my sleep schedule
  • But no caffeine or nap!
  • Up early tomorrow to eat breakfast before donating
  • At least I can nap again after that if necessary
  • (Immediately after breakfast, that is. I will be napping after the donation. Does it help? It certainly doesn't hurt!)
  • Made what is probably my favorite red meat dish
  • Best part: full recipe for just me = leftovers!
  • So lunch tomorrow is ready!
  • Mom put a box on the floor to see if a feline would enter it
  • Nope
  • Dad put the box on the chair to get it out of the way
  • Nobu slept in it
  • I'll post and link a video tomorrow of him reacting to bleach
  • (Casper likes it. You would have thought Nobu got into catnip. Crazy.)
  • Good: no nap
  • Happy: he's much smaller than Liam, but Nobu is just as likely to join me in the kitchen and want what I'm cooking

  • Unfortunately, my iron was too low to donate
  • I'm set for 3 weeks from now
  • Silver lining: it helps push me froward to get in line with my cousin's blood drive
  • I'll be 3 months instead of 2 for that
  • Dad invited family over for a party
  • Circumstances kept half of them away
  • So it's my sister, her fiance, and the cousins who almost never join us
  • It's quite lovely!
  • And Casper has landed on my sister's lap and she is in heaven
  • Took a nap this afternoon
  • I enjoyed that
  • I went to bed almost 2 hours later than planned
  • Nobu VOLUNTARILY curled up on my lap last night!
  • !!!
  • Good: tried to donate blood
  • Happy: kitten! On my lap! NEXT TO ME!
  • (My arm was hostage. This was acceptable.)

  • Shoveled the driveway with Dad
  • It was easy enough, but I was especially* stupid and forgot to grab my scarf
  • So my throat  hated me from the cold air
  • Warm tea to the rescue!
  • (*Especially because it was the driveway. I could have walked inside and grabbed a scarf!)
  • I don't know if I'm going to do the snowballs this year
  • I'm especially tired today and just don't have the energy
  • (No caffeine, though!)
  • I'll see how I feel tomorrow
  • Bills won again!
  • Both kittens have taken to sitting on my lap while I'm on the toilet
  • Slightly awkward, but so warm!
  • The fireplace is being replaced on Wednesday
  • We will all appreciate that
  • Have you ever found something with the most basic internet search and wondered just how other people couldn't do the same?
  • It's a thought I've had since yesterday
  • Good: helped with the shoveling
  • Happy: both kittens joined me on the couch last night; Casper joined me in bed this morning
