At the break of dawn

A new hive, a new thread, a new start.

I have started Darebee a few years back while recovering from a long-lasting calf injury. I learned a lot about myself during that process. I needed to learn to respect my body's limits. When my life changed from teenager - student - working adult, the amount of daily physical exercise decreased enormously with each phase, but in my mind I was still that girl that could do anything. So I had to learn to be reasonable, to listen to and respect the signals my body gives me. That took me a year to learn, and a year or two to practice. Then I was back to running again, even made it to a 10k run!

But then winter came, I had learned that consistency is key, so I kept running even though it was cold, rainy or dark. It struck my hard when I got complaints in my heel. What went wrong? Well, it was the change in surface; from soft trails in the forest, to pavement in the streets. Combined with worn out shoes that I couldn't replace because the covid lockdown, and I always go to a specialised shop with video analysis. I was a good girl though, went to a sports physio, but his advise made it worse.

I was so disappointed, hurt, that with everything I learned and doing what should have been good, I still got another ugly injury. It felt so unfair.. That became my last thread: "It's always darkest before the dawn". Another struggle, starting over at zero, but moving forward, getting better, recovering. Towards the dawn. So the move of the hive and the need of a new thread comes at exactly the right moment.

I am running again. I am cycling again. I am hiking again. And it's stil fragile, but it goes well. So I'm out of the dark now. I'm at the break of dawn.

Because my initial journey made me earn all my badges, I think it's proper to start fresh badge wise. A new path of recovery. Started with Foundation Light, and discovered that I am already past that level (which gives an enormous boost!), so I spiced it up and will use it as a warming up. And since my holiday I try to get back into yoga, but ... not. So I started with 30 days of yoga too, to get in the flow. I'm thinking of doing Back&Core, but that decision will be tomorrow.
▪️  Hike 2.48 km
▪️  Basics Foundation Light, day 1, lvl 3+. 30 sec rest between sets. Did lvl 2 and 3 with a black (hard) mini band.

I went to the re-release of Avatar in the cinema, in 3D. I still love it, and seeing it on big screen and in 3D makes it just as awesome as it was the first time I saw it. The story is very well built, the graphics and colors are awesome, the actors are well chosen. Especially since I'm a bit dissapointed lately in the new films (except for Top Gun: Maverick, that was one of the best films in the last years).

Pico took the opportunity and went outside. I called for her half an hour ago, but she's still not home (it's 11.30pm). I really hope she won't bring me a mouse in the middle of the night...
(Edit: 10 min later she came home without pray, yay 😊)

Postponed back and core until tomorrow, because planking and running on 1 day is nota good idea for my achilles. And he's a bit on edge already.
▪️  Walk 1.20 km. Warming up
▪️  Run 2x12 min, 2 min rest. Rainy, but it didn't feel cold.

Had a walk with my family, was nice but a bit too fast sometimes which made my achilles hurt.. Didn't want to tell my family to slow down, mostly because I'm tired of it myself (my family would be very understanding).
But, planking went well, my achilles even felt less tense than last days. So hopefully it'll be just fine.

Today was a very good day :makeway:
I did a lot of things around the house; cleaning, trimming the hedge, getting the condensing boiler (as wikipedia told me) its annual check up and the system filled, went for a run, went to the garden center where it already is Christmas time (seriously?) with christmas trees, lights, etc and I got myself buying an advent calendar for cats, got some plants repotted in bigger pots, and got the birds new food for winter.
The weather was awesome! They predicted nothing but rain, and all I got was sun!
I walked so much and also in an unusual way (with a heavy shopping cart around corners, cutting the hedge in weird positions...), I felt my achilles a bit, so skipped my workouts for today.
▪️  Walk 1.04 km. Warming up
▪️  Run 3x8 min, 2 min rest. I was pretty consistent, ran the 2nd and 3rd set exactly the same pace (both 5.47 min/km). The first wasn't much slower (5.53 min/km).

The risk of following programs to me, is doing it no matter what. The planking in Abs&Core went well, but right afterwards I felt my achilles a little bit. I postponed yoga (also planking day) for another day, progress!

September summary
Accidentally broke my step streak this month, but, to frame ot positive: of the last 70 days I got my step goal 69 times!

My fitness level is improving steadily.
My achilles is a bit sensive because I overdid it on the interval sprints, but I'm not back to square 1 and I did a step back in training (no sprints and no bicycling) so that's a win. Hopefully it'll be all good soon.

I went to a photography event today; when I agreed to go with my sister in law, I thought it was something practical with workshops, but it was like a conference in which photographers showed their pictures and talked about their work. Met some awesome people though 😊
Was home around 7pm, wanted to go for a run, but while running it became pitch dark in the forest in no time.. really scary, I heard strange squeaking like an animal in distress, was afraid I'd run into wild boars or wolves. Took the shortest way back to the main path with a restaurant and a few houses. Runs and hikes in the evening are over 😞 I think I find that the hardest thing about winter.

That would've scared the crap out of me. Our first summer here, we slept with our windows open. One night I heard some poor animal being attacked. That was the last time we slept with the windows opened.😿

@CODawn sounds creepy too

I went to a theme park called Dino Land today with a friend and her son. It actually was a large playground, with dino replica's (they tried to make it look like Jurassic Park a bit though). There I was eaten by one...

Today I started the week with good resolutions: drinking enough, eating healthy, get some postponed stuff done at work. But, well. Nevermind. Unexpected things happened, it was too busy to get myself another cup of tea, it got late and I didn't eat well.
But when I came home Pico collected me at the car, I had cake at my neighbors, and while I walked to the supermarket Pico came along :kittens:

I'm tired.. Slept all afternoon on the couch, Pico loved it.
Couldn't make myself doing my Darebee workouts, so accepted that I was just going to bed early.
I'm going through my old logs, it is interesting to see the progress I made, the good advise I got (and forgot), the struggles I had and sometimes still do have. How often Pico gets into trouble... Thank you for sticking by me and your support, you are all awesome!
▪️  Walk 1.11 km, warming up

I went for a hike tonight. It wasn't very special, though I managed to make 130 pictures ... 🤷🏼‍♀️
