Had an anxiety-ridden evening. My youngest (daughter #5, 21yrs, in Texas) has been battling Covid and started having trouble breathing. My husband took her to the ER, where she was given oxygen, IV, steroids, and a breathing treatment. They did an x-ray and then a CT scan, because the doc was concerned about possible clots. (That was the scariest part for me.) Thankfully, the scan was clear, and the treatments improved her condition. They kept her in hospital overnight, but if she doesn't have any setbacks, she should be discharged this afternoon.

Hugs and good wishes for your daughter. The IV line is nearly a given when hospitalised, they want fast access "in case". Most anticoagulants are either oral (coumadin/warfarin, the direct action anticoagulants / gatrans, abans and others, good old aspirin) , or SC (heparin, that good old workhorse ;) ). For a viral infection, antibiotics are of no use, except to prevent a bacterial surinfection.
Hope this wolf pharmacist helps a bit in understanding. Hugs!

Thanks, @Deadoks!:tu:
Thank you, @PetiteSheWolf, for sharing your expertise. :ss: It is hard not being there myself, not being able to ask all of the questions and get all of the details. My husband told me that they were giving her antibiotics, but didn't say in what form or why. She has developed pneumonia, so possibly that is the reason. Anyway, i know that she is being looked after, but i sure wish i could hug her!
